If you’ve ever lived in a Victorian house, it’s home from home. If you’re a concrete and glass box kind of person, it’s probably not for you.
With a better location than anything less than twice the price (Westminster Abbey and Houses of Parliament 2 minutes away), this has windows and baths, unlike the soulless, windowless Park Plaza. The beds are comfortable, and the monsoon showers are the best I’ve ever experienced (seriously), though you may have to run the hot water for 5 mins to get peak temperature as it is a 19th century building. As another reviewer has noted, the floorboards creak, but you don’t hear anyone else, probably because there’s a false ceiling and aircon separating you vertically from other floors. The fridge comes with a pint of London Pride, sparkling and still water, and fresh milk for your tea (all complimentary) and there’s a nespresso machine. No in-room iron or hairdryer, but the former was easily obtained from the super-helpful staff and I’d be surprised if they didn’t have hairdryers too.
At the time of writing there’s no breakfast service because of Covid, but on a previous visit the full English breakfast was outstanding. Dinner is still available in the pub downstairs, but you’re also a very short walk from loads of restaurants in Victoria Street or the quirky Strutton Ground (eg the fabulous Ichi Riki Sushi House). This is not a luxury hotel, but it is frankly more comfortable and infinitely better value than many of them.

Conveniently located between two tube stops (St. James's Park & Westmister) you can literally walk out the front door, look left and see Westminster Abbey a block and a half away.
I have to admit I was somewhat leery when I arrived to creaky floorboards and a room right above the pub. However, I was very pleased to come to discover that it simply lent to the charm of the hotel. The room was quiet, albeit small (but I was alone so I had sufficient room). I was very delighted to find a full complimentary bottle of Fullers in my in-room fridge! Unfortunately, while they replaced the water and milk every day, they did not replace the beer - so all you get is one. Fortunately though, the pub was just one flight down and you can bring beer back to your room.
They had a hot breakfast selection each morning, as well as a selection of cereals and rolls. I recommend adding breakfast to your stay.
I did have occasion to eat lunch & dinner in the pub during my stay and it is of the quality you come to expect from Fuller owned pubs.
Internet worked great in my room.
If you're looking for incremental services, like a concierge and/or executive level, here you won't find them. What you will find is a unique European experience at an affordable price. Well, I did anyway.
If you're a walker, The Abbey, shopping, Buckingham palace and tube stations are very convenient.
I would certainly take a look at The Sanctuary House my next visit to London!

Nice rooms in a beautiful retro building. The staff was very polite and helpful, the rooms had nespresso machine, kettle, and complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, water, milk and a beer!!! The first floor reception was so beautiful, I felt like I was inside an Arthur Conan Doyle novel! The location is ideal, one minute from the subway and two minutes walk from Westminster abbey. We made a last minute reservation since our flight was cancelled and we were stuck in London but they did their best to make us feel better!
The insulation of the room was not great, since the wooden windows allow some cold enter the room, but the curtains did a good job. Also, the floor was creaking but these are normal in an old -but beautifully maintained building.

So glad we booked to stay here for New Years Eve. The location was perfect, a 5 mins walk from parliament and the St James Park tube The hotel is part of the pub which had friendly welcoming staff good eats excellent beer & relaxed atmosphere.
Room was large & comfortable well equipped with a bath fridge iron & board Nespresso machine & lots of complimentary drinks. Didn’t feel at all cramped
Paid a premium as it was NYE but wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend
The location despite being so good was amazingly quiet and an easy walk to all the local sights

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights, and what a great stay. Quick check in then straight to our room. Fab complimentary toiletries, coffee, tea & cold beverages in the fridge including fresh milk, so much better than portions. The bathroom was small but did what it said on the tin. You are in the centre of London so it is quite noisy in a morning outside but this would not stop me staying again. The breakfast offering was fantastic, really delicious and a great way to start a long day sightseeing. We drank and ate in the pub downstairs on all three evenings and the service was friendly and food really great and reasonably priced. Location ideal for sightseeing with the nearest tube station only minutes away. We would highly recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again. Until next time

Welcoming staff and a very well appointed room in this Fullers hotel. Situated above the pub, the room exceeded our expectations and included complimentary drinks and a great selection of teas and coffees too. We arrived too early for check in but as we wouldn't be back til midnight, we completed the easy check in process and our bag was waiting in our room when we eventually returned to the hotel.
Spotlessly clean and in a great location within a few minutes of Westminster.
Breakfast was included and was a good standard with a cooked meal as well as a plentiful continental buffet selection.
We would stay again.

Located in the heart of Westminster over a pub The Sanctuary House Hotel was a pleasant surprise.
Spent 1 night here with daughter. Room small but adequate for a 1 night stay, clean, fridge with complimentary bottle of London Pride Ale, 2 bottes of water and milk to use for tea/coffee. Coffee machine in room
Bed comfortable, and temp of room good. Staff friendly
Arrived early to see if we could put our bag in storage, pleasantly surprised to find room ready so could go up and put it in room ready to head out into London. Breakfast inc which was very nice. Had to let staff know what we wanted but that was no problem.
Came back late evening after eating and thought we would come back to the pub to have a drink, however the pub was empty (8:45ish pm) and we couldn't see if the pub was actually still open (in these unprecedented times I know some pubs will close early if there are no customers)
I have read reviews where they have said that the pub can be noisy so I can only say how we found it which it is probably quieter due to COVID but it was quiet although could hear noise in the morning outside. However for the cost I couldn't fault it. My one complaint was that the window in the morning was very wet. Other than that location was brilliant and cost brilliant. Would definitely stay here again but if I was stayingstayig for a few nights I would probably book a bigger room

Great location only minutes from parliament sq & Westminster abbey. Great old building with plenty of character.
Check-in / booking was easy being online.
Lady at reception was very bubbly & helpful (always makes a difference)
My room was decorated in a classic style with contemporary colours. Good facilities with fridge m, TV, coffee making, ironing board and robe. Beck was really comfortable with plenty of pillows.
Only reasons for 4* (not 5*) were;
Breakfast - can choose one hot option but not great quality & small portion. Couldn’t have a cappuccino as only Luke warm filter coffee was included in the price (even offered to pay for it)
Hopefully just a bad day, so will visit again

The hotel is above the pub (the pub is on the ground floor) the staff were mostly mixed nationals and were attentive and friendly. The hotel rooms were excellent, reasonable size, fully stocked with refrigerator inc complinentary bottled water, beer and milk. There was a mobile air con unit with an additional dyson fan. A dressing gown and slippers were provided. Tv coffee machine, tea bags and biscuits as standard. Bath and shower and good supply of hot water Clean and tidy and in good decorative order. Lift to all floors and stairs centrally. Security cameras on corridors and secure external door system. On the negative side the windows were all single glazed and the ceiling unit was not working ( error code E3) hence the mobile air con unit and Dyson fan? Not sure about heating for the winter as this visit was a summer visit. The eating area is on the ground floor in the pub itself, it is a small compact raised area which had about 10 tables. As the pub is open to non residents it can get very noisy at night so it is hard to talk and relax and people in the bar are drinking alcohol at 9.30 in the morning. We had a problem where the hotel failef to comply with specific requests for a special dietry requirement for the first nights dinner . The menu tends to be rigid and there is a distinct lack of flexibility most gravy is red wine gravy and we were disappointed with the lack of comminication which led to a complaint which was resolved with the intervention of the CEO office. We didnt eat in the restaurant after the first night, there were plently of reasonable non ponisified pub menus on and near St Pauls.
Overall I would recommend the hotel but if staying again I wouldnt bother eating there as it failed to meet expectations. On a mystery shopper type score the hotel would achieve an 8.7 and the restaurant as part of the pub 3.3 out of 10.

Visited here for a quick drink and bite midweek. Nice pub atmosphere and decor. Small elevated seating area for dining, “traditional” pub grub aimed I guess at tourists, pies, fish n chips etc.
I had the “corporal jones” toad in the hole. For those of you old enough to remember the butcher from dads army, he would certainly be panicking Mr Mainwaring!! It was just 3 sausages (albeit tasty) sat inside an oily mess resembling a Yorkshire pudding. They would be better off just serving the sausage and mash on it’s own. Burger and triple cooked chips were adequate but chips looked like they’d seen better days and perhaps cooked/reheated more than three times! Expensive but had 20% off voucher which softened the blow. Apple crumble was good

Kind regards,

Hi,
We serve breakfast from 7 am to 11 am Mon-Fri and from 8 am to 11 am Sat-Sun.
Kind regards,
Reception
We arrived almost 6 hours early and were pleasantly surprised that one of our two rooms were ready. I hope you have the same good luck. They are very accommodating. Taxi from Luton Airport for 3 persons was 118 Euro. Train was too complicated after a long flight.
