My wife and I had rather lofty expectations of The Goring based upon their reputation, and the service and charm fully exceeded them.

Despite being nervous about the British formality we might encounter at The Goring, we could not have felt more at home from check-in to check-out at The Goring. The staff does an exceptional job at truly making you feel special during your stay. This is no more evident than being greeted by name when departing for the day and when arriving back in the evening, and when to retrieve our room key from concierge (this is no regular room key, which added to the charm). We enjoyed breakfast on multiple occasions in the beautiful dining area where the service and also the meal were outstanding. A must when staying at The Goring (or in London) is afternoon tea, which was a great experience.

For those wondering (as I was prior to our visit), the dress code is smart casual.

Two things that were more our personal preference than outright complaints were that our bed did appear rather firm (unsure if this is standard for all rooms), and the first night the room was fairly warm (we were there during a warm time in London), although it didn't appear to be as much an an issue during the rest of our stay.

Overall, if you're looking for a traditional, timeless, and charming stay in London with absolutely exceptional service, a stay at The Goring should be on your (bucket) list.

After all, if it is good enough for royalty, it should be good enough for the rest of us!

Thank you again to the staff at The Goring for our memorable stay, hope to see you again.

We had afternoon last week. It was very charming, all the staff were helpful and they made it very special. We had a lovely waiter Dragosh (I think)
It was a Christmas gift so we had a voucher. The only thing I would say is just ask for tap water as a bottle of still water is £7.00. Having said that we spent over £85 in the gorgeous cocktail bar afterwards which was amazing. The staff are really very good and made us feel very special and welcome.

We stayed at The Goring to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We took advantage of the three nights for two offer and upgraded to a garden facing room. As always the hotel and the Goring team did not disappoint. This hotel is very special and yes it is not cheap but it is the friendly and genuinely helpful team that sets it apart from many similarly priced London hotels. Housekeeping have a delightfully quirky sense of humour. Beautiful wooden life size carved sheep are dotted around the hotel; a nod to the Goring family who still own and run the hotel and who hail from the countryside. Each room has a mini Bar-Baa-Ra sheep for guests to take home but which during your stay finds its way into all sorts of places during the evening turndown service! Ours as the picture shows ended up in an orchid on our last night!! The food at The Goring is always excellent; we ate in both restaurants and thoroughly enjoyed our meals each night. The waiting staff were both friendly and efficient and nothing was too much trouble. We cannot recommend this simply glorious hotel highly enough and will hopefully return again next year.

Our first night away this year following the Covid restrictions. It was our 20th wedding anniversary and also my birthday and therefore we decided on a special hotel to celebrate.

…..and special it was. A very British, very traditional hotel in all the right ways. The service is impeccable, as you would expect at this level, but done in a very down to earth non assuming way. The desk manager who showed us to our room was an absolute delight, having a joke with us and sharing some nice personal anecdotes. Each member of staff we came across was equally friendly, but also offering perfect service.

The rooms are traditional but beautiful, quiet, comfortable and with superb black out curtains, all ensuring a perfect nights sleep.

Breakfast was excellent (as was our lunch in the restaurant the day before)

My only observation would be that the restaurant is not in keeping with the rest of the hotel (in my view!) - it feels slightly too open and modern with chairs and decor that feel out of place with the rest of the hotel, it feels more like a big square dining room rather than an intimate location for a meal - compared to somewhere like the Savoy grill it’s just lacking a certain ambience. But that really is minor point in what was otherwise a glorious stay.

Excellent!

The Goring is a little bit of heaven on earth and you never just have a meal but an experience with every course- taste, textures and presentation never fails to please all the senses.

We visited for a meal in October and also for my husbands birthday in January and can not fault the excellent service or beautiful ambiance of the Goring. From the moment you step in the doors it is like entering a calm and serene world and you leave all the outside problems at the door as you do with your coats!

A very BIG THANK YOU to Lionel Lacheze for his faultless help and kindness on both our visits and for making my husbands birthday meal such an occasion. Also to Zoe who ensured we were perfectly looked after in every way during both meals.

The Goring is everything a perfect restaurant should be in every way – Thank you

I stayed last weekend as part of my birthday celebrations and out of all the hotels I've stayed in within London, this is by far the best.

The hotel itself is beautiful. They have tastefully merged its heritage with a few modern comforts to create a classy space to relax with friends. Their lounge area (with beautiful fireplace) and bar, is fantastic. A lovely spot for pre-dinner drinks with the pianist playing in the evening. One thing that really impressed me is that they don't allow people to talk on mobile phones in the communal lounge (this is so that other guests are not disturbed). I wish more hotels would do this.

My bedroom was lovely with all mod cons required for a comfortable stay. The room itself though not forgetting its routes/original style. The sheep in each room and scattered around the hotel is a great touch. The sheep is not only a lovely gift for you to take away with you, but he is also put in different parts of the room whilst you are out. I came back to my room with my sheep bearing a message for me from the hotel (just cute fun!). My dinner at Siren Restaurant was lovely, as was breakfast and Sunday lunch.

Staff are incredibly polite and nothing is too much trouble.

As it was my birthday, they were very generous and left me a little bottle of bubbly in my room upon arrive.

All the lovely touches made this a lovely stay, one which I hope to do again, very soon!

We travelled from the US to London for our Mother’s Birthday, we had a few rooms booked at The Goring and stayed in The Royal Suite; so special that my Mother could stay in this room with my sister and her daughter. In total we stayed with The Goring for a five night trip, we did all the sights across the city and dined in both traditional and modern restaurants for my Mother and the younger members of the family.

The Royal Suite was out of this world! Bill was our personal footman in the suite; he couldn’t have been more helpful throughout our stay and everything we asked was done ahead of time. My Mother particularly enjoyed having champagne poured by Bill for her on the balcony!

The entire stay from the moment we arrived at this hotel to our departure, the service was faultless. Peter at the door was charming every day and remembered all of our names and where we had been or were going to next, my Mother and him built a special bond during our time in London.

We met Alex, he was our point of contact throughout our time at the hotel. He went above and beyond for me and our family at every stage and connected so well with all of us, I am so pleased we met Alex and he is one of the reasons why we will return over the summer.

The cleanliness of The Royal Suite and our other rooms was amazing, such detail and care was given to all of our personal items, all of the maids we came into contact with were kind, polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The Dining Room for breakfast every day was brilliant, such a selection on the menu. We had dinner on our first night in the hotel which was enjoyed by everyone, food and service was exquisite everyday.

A couple of days before we left The Goring we had Afternoon Tea which was arranged by Sean from Concierge; we had a number diet needs to be met including a kosher requirement. We saw Martin in the Veranda who helped us with everything and we spent three hours having tea which was such a special time for us all, it was very relaxing! Sean was helpful throughout our stay and helped us over the weekend with all of our restaurant bookings, he was helpful with all of our last minute changes.

The service we received was the best compared with anything else in the US and other places we have stayed in the world since the pandemic. Everyone we met was warm, kind and friendly and it was done so effortlessly.
If you want the best service, in my opinion, you must stay at The Goring.

I treated my wife to a birthday lunch at the Goring. As she is both gluten and dairy intolerant, I mentoned this when I booked and as we ordered our food.
When we were offered bread, my wife had to ask for gf and had to wait 20 minutes whilst some was prepared for her.
My wife had carefully selected the beetroot and ewe's cheese starter and was somewhat dismayed to find that it arrived minus cheese, with no explanation. After we questioned the omission, the waiter explained that the kitchen had decided that they should not serve it. A serving of the cheese then came. Delicious.
My starter of quail was serve with a good helping of tasty broth, but no spoon to eat it with.
My wife's grilled sole was faultlessly cooked, but so delayed in service whilst my rib of beef was being carved, that it was cold.
The rib of beef was succulent, but the English mustard that I asked for did not arrive until I had eaten most of it.
There were no gf puddings on the menu, but the waiter suggested the lemon opalys. When my pudding arrived (excellent trifle), the waiter only then said that the lemon opalys was not suitable and only sorbet could be offered. It was delicious.
With our coffee came a complimentary, tiny sliver of gf chocolate cake and birthday candle. Had a larger portion of that been offered as her pudding, my wife would have been delighted. The petit fours came long after our coffee had been drunk and as I was settling the bill.
The Goring advertises that "if you suffer from any food allergies, please inform a member of staff, as we have additional information an options for you". We did not find this to be the case.
In comparison, we had been to the Savoy Grill on an earlier occasion, where, given the same prewarning of my wife's requirements, a full gf menu was seemlessly available and the service and food impeccable.

Can’t put my finger on it completely but this hotel has failed to impress. I could not - try as I may - connect to it or it’s staff.
It has the pedigree and hallmarks of one of the greats of London but there was something that kept me from loving it as much as I’d hoped.
It feels a bit like a grand dame that has lost its sparkle. It feels a bit tired, dark, musty and scuffed round the edges.
The staff were hit and miss. Some were authentic, others overly formal and stiff.
Our room was nice enough but there was no mini bar or tea/ coffee making facilities and the room service menu was underwhelming.
The bathroom was quite small with barely any room to put our toiletry bags.
Sound insulation was poor too. We could hear every single movement of the guest in the room upstairs. Can only assume we had the same impact on people on the floor below ours!?
The Lounge and other common areas did not feel high Lux and I missed the sense of occasion of other hotels in London in a similar price range.
Check out the was messy. When we asked to have the car brought round at 08:30, much confusion ensued. We were told the manager was having his breakfast and where then asked by the night-porter if our car was the Rover (which it wasn’t!) and which room we were checking out from (after we had literally just handed in the key). We finally managed to get the correct car brought round and got on our way.
In summary, there were too many niggles and disconnects for a hotel
in this price range. Feel a bit disappointed as I’d been looking forward to this (belated Valentines Day) treat
I think this hotel trades off its Royal Warrant and fact that the Queen likes it. It needs dragging into the modern age as travellers expect more for their money now than musty whiffs of a bygone era

Harrods and the boutiques near it are just about a 10 minute walk away - easy to do. A cab will get you there even faster. We got a cab to Covent Garden and walked to Regent, Bond and Oxmoor streets for more shopping, then hailed a cab back to the hotel for a celebratory drink in the lounge. A walk to that area is do able but more like 20 minutes or longer. On a nice day that walk is very pleasant as you’ll pass by Buckingham Palace on the way and up past Trafalgar Square (we’ve walked that, too!)
