...The Reubens is best hotel I have ever stayed, it has location, comfort, cleanliness, details, and service. It has a amazing location, right across the Royal Mews, the area of Buckingham Palace where the carriages, and horse drawn coaches are housed and prepared, literally only a 6 minute walk to the front of Buckingham Palace, where on certain days you can catch the changing of the Guard, a pretty cool event to see... Overall if you are looking for a place that is in the Center of London, near some of the most important locations, then the Reubens at the Palace in my opinion is the best in terms of quality, cost, location, and hospitality...

...Firstly, the old style traditional feel and ambience of the hotel are noteworthy, a trade off of that is that the more contemporary amenities that you find in larger international hotels are limited (for example there is no coffee machine or mini bar / fridge in room)... ...The bed was comfy ...but the decor was gloomy and extremely depressing The lighting was awful, gloomy and stark The wardrobe was OK There were no drawers only awful open shelving on which to place clothes The kettle was enormous and therefore would not fit under the tap in the bathroom Unless you pay for a suite it would appear; according to others guests we spoke to, most rooms are small Our room was not ready when we checked in at 3.30 we were offered 2 complimentary drinks in the bar... service was extremely slow The breakfasts, were what we would have expected but the service and long wait for service was unacceptable both in the restaurant and in the bar... We were very disappointed we accept the small room, but the gloomy and depressing decor spoilt the stay...

...We booked this hotel well in advance for our trip to London and at the time, the room was just over £300 per night and there were numerous other hotels available at this price or for much less so we thought it would be a good standard. We go to London at least twice a year and I don't think I've ever been more disappointed with a room... We arrived at 11am and left our bags to go straight to Wimbledon as the room, understandably, wasn't ready at that time... Apart from how small the room was, the furniture was tired, the bed base scratched and very old, chair stained, duvet cover too small for the bed, main light that couldn't be dimmed, no view whatsoever from the window that was covered with trellis to hide a giant air conditioning unit... The next day we packed our bags and the staff offered us another room but that doesn't alter the fact that we were unhappy for one night then had the inconvenience of moving and unpacking again which left the whole experience far from satisfactory... The staff at all times were very welcoming and friendly but how anyone can think that room is worth over £300 for one night is beyond me... I love traditional hotels but you can't mistake traditional style with a shabby, tired, worn out room without a view...

We traveled and booked three rooms for our family of 7 persons including a two year old toddler... It all worked out amazingly and the hotel made a cake and decorated the room with a “Royal” theme just as I wanted... The rooms are traditional which just adds to the London experience that a tourist would want - albeit a bit small especially for a family of 3 in one room... Housekeeping and turndown was great and helped keep the room clean which made it feel less claustrophobic... Hotel room service was also good with a big selection... Would definitely recommend just beware the the rooms are a bit small!...

I will start with the negatives, we tried to check in at 1pm but the room wasn’t ready until 3pm which I think was the standard response... ...On one of our days we left at 7am and returned at almost 4pm to change for the evening and our room WAS NEVER SERVICED that day... Other notes; room was quite small, not room for 3 cases, (we were Christmas shopping) and space was so small we had to turn sideways on one side of bed to do anything... For the room rate we paid, I expected a bit more than the above, we will not return to this hotel on future trips...

...We booked a superior king size room as we were travelling with our dog. We had stayed here before and had a lovely experience and room which is why we booked again... When we walked into our room I was shocked to find the windows were obscured by trellises and greenery so you couldn’t even see out the windows, this made the room extremely dark... I went back to reception and advised I couldn’t possible stay in that room and expected better for what we had paid... We were shown two other rooms which were apparently in the same price as what we had paid... The one was still very dark looking at a brick wall and the second was a Royal Mews room double which was tiny for two adults and a medium sized dog but was lighter... Sadly though I don’t know if we would stay again as we thought it was expensive for the room we had, we have stayed in much nicer rooms with our dog for the same price...

My stay at the Reubens at the Palace was an amazing stay, this hotel did everything right. The Reubens is best hotel I have ever stayed, it has location, comfort, cleanliness, details, and service... The bathroom is up to date, modern and kept stocked... Everyday the rooms were cleaned, beds were made, bathroom stocked, they left a scent spray for bed, I mean they were on point...

...Everyone we met at the hotel was friendly and accommodating, though at times understanding the accent was a challenge. Everyone offered help if we looked bewildered and assistance was rapid, i.e... That evening, there were large clear labels on the wall, above each shower bottle (shower gel, conditioner, and shampoo)... The gentleman who explained each item on the plate was happy to tell us the content of each one, but would quickly provide more when an item was consumed... The person who explained the entire process was delightful and most pleasant... Mohan gave me a small jar of the spices from that curry, and I have since made it at home... I am happy to provide this review, because the hotel earned it...

...We booked a Royal Mews view room and we were upgraded to a Royal Wing room "Queen Victoria" which was lovely although slightly on the small side with quite large furniture making it a bit tight but with great views of the mews... Breakfast was very good and the team very friendly and provided a great service... All the hotel team from the doormen to reception and bar/waiting were excellent and we would recommend a stay here and we will be staying again as we felt very pampered...

We had a wonderful overnight stay at the Reubens, our first stay here but always impressed by the Red Carnation hotels. We weren’t disappointed, from the warm greeting we received from the doorman through every other member of staff we met the standard was excellent... The staff did seem a little stretched at breakfast unfortunately... Checkout was also smooth& painless, considering the high quality of the stay the extra expense was money well spent...

...I asked the doorman if they had somewhere I could get a coffee and was shown to the New York bar. It was comfortable and cosy although at 5pm battery powered tea lights were brought to the table and the lights were turned down which made it very atmospheric but hard to read the papers I had... The people I was meeting then arrived and we ordered glasses of wine which were very pleasant and much better value than the coffee although when I paid the wine on the bill was not the one we ordered so I'm not exactly sure what we had... We were brought bar snacks and a delicious warm cheesy nibble... The staff were charming and attentive..I would definitely come again but not for the coffee...

Royal Afternoon Tea with my niece & nephew. It was their first time and they were beaming at the beauty of this place, the service and the wonderful delicacies... The Afternoon Tea here, has something special that captures the essence of all that is regal and sophisticated... That glass of champagne glass added the frivolity touch, what a dream... Then, just when you think that service is not what used to be, you’ll be instantly transported to the kindest team of young man and women just focused on pampering you... So if you’re planning to visit London, definitely book The Royal Afternoon Tea at the Rubens at the Palace (please, make your booking in advance to avoid disappointment) Trust me, you won’t regret it...

As a wheelchair user I am always worried about access to places, I found rubens and instantly felt at ease. The staff attended to me in a manner I loved, it was as if they knew my personality, what I mean is, I always choose high quality hotels but hate some I have been to that go over the top, at rubens they treated me as a star and I got everything I asked for but without the "sir" attitude... First class service and first-class food ( you must try the curry room!)... a special shout out to Sebastian who foresaw my every need... I will be returning regularly as I am now hooked by there hospitality...

They even left a card and small Red Velvet Cake in our room on my wife’s birthday... We did hear people complimenting the high tea service (looked lovely, but not our thing)... My main concern was the hot water temperature in the bathroom was inconsistent, making showers a challenging experience... I feel what really set this hotel apart is their staff... My husband and I stayed here, along with my parents, in separate rooms... However the three eating areas offer high tea, fine dining and small dimly lit New York style bar serves the best vodka martini made for us by the loveliest bartender (Fred, who was by no means the pretentious type we encounter so often in Sydney)... Secondly, the service from all members of staff was 10/10... From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home... We had exceptional service from a gentleman named Craig - no request was too small and always done while making us laugh the entire time...

...Having booked some time ago, my 15-year-old daughter and I were really looking forward to our return visit, and the Rubens did not disappoint. From the moment the red coated doorman opened Our taxi door, the magic started... It was terrific to catch up with the familiar face of Maisie who had organised our arrival with perfection... It had everything we needed including requested extras Such as a mini fridge, iron and ironing board and extra coat hangers... With a bottle of wine, a fruit plate and truffles to welcome us and a personalised note on the mirror for my daughter we knew we were in for an amazing stay... The food was amazing, we had a gorgeous afternoon tea, which could be topped up with anything and we were able to take back up to our room what we could not eat... We had also booked an evening meal in the English Grill for our first night... Yes this was not an inexpensive meal, But it was absolutely fantastic as was the service by everyone in the grill that night... We had breakfast each morning which was a huge selection, the service was prompt and impeccable and both the continental and cooked breakfast where fantastic... I would like to reiterate the views of many other guests about the staff of the Rubens at the Palace... Zoe and Junior got me out of a sticky situation when I left my phone in our room and need it for an event with the phone having on it the E tickets... Maisie and Laura were absolute treasures, and made sure our stay perfect in every single way... The icing on the cake was their new customer liaison manager Raj... Absolutely anything we needed, things we didn’t know we needed... anything, Raj was there with his impeccable manners, cheeky smile, and his desire to make everybody he met happy... I have even emailed both the hotel manager and the CEO our thanks and compliments regarding the staff...

...It is clean and the air conditioning is wonderful We stayed in room 442. it was small with a super king bed, which we paid extra Only one person at a time in the tiny bathroom. The bed was comfy ...but the decor was gloomy and extremely depressing The lighting was awful, gloomy and stark The wardrobe was OK There were no drawers only awful open shelving on which to place clothes The kettle was enormous and therefore would not fit under the tap in the bathroom Unless you pay for a suite it would appear; according to others guests we spoke to, most rooms are small Our room was not ready when we checked in at 3.30 we were offered 2 complimentary drinks in the bar... service was extremely slow The breakfasts, were what we would have expected but the service and long wait for service was unacceptable both in the restaurant and in the bar... The Hotel staff are courteous and welcoming...

...We are long time patrons of the Reubens Hotel. Every time we are in London we only stay there because the Reubens Hotel goes above and beyond expectations from the time you approach the hotel to check in to the moment you checkout and you are on your way to your next destination... While all the staff are so friendly and knowledgable and I have not encountered any issues but I wanted to in particular comment on Mohamoud... He really went out of his way to ensure our stay was one of the best yet... He is always in an upbeat, friendly modd and if he sees you are in need, he springs in to action without us even having to ask... He is such a perfect asset to the already stellar service Reubens offers, he puts the cherry on top of the cake!...

...We travel a lot, and can easily say our stay at the Rubens at the Palace was like no other. You are treated like royalty as soon as you walk in... From the doorman, to the bell hop, to the concierge…all the services were over the top... They pay attention to the little details that make a stay special... Before we left breakfast, a complimentary dessert was brought to us wishing us well on our trip (see photo)... The dinner the night before at the English Grill was also exquisite, with meticulous attention to detail and a first class experience... If you want to be treated like a King, I cannot recommend this place and their amazing staff enough... Wish I could give the staff, hotel, and restaurant six stars...

...The rooms are traditional which just adds to the London experience that a tourist would want - albeit a bit small especially for a family of 3 in one room... Housekeeping and turndown was great and helped keep the room clean which made it feel less claustrophobic... Blackout curtains were amazing, especially after a bit of jet lag... Our favorite part was the afternoon tea, AMAZING!!!... I was obviously expecting great tea which we got but was surprised by how good the sandwiches and pastries were... Location is convenient and within walking distance to most activities... Good restaurants in the surrounding areas... Hotel room service was also good with a big selection...

I could not recommend this hotel enough. If your looking for an English experience in a little luxury then this is the hotel for you... The friendly and professional staff were a step above what other hotels offer... Like opening the door for you to walk in... Every night there were chocolates placed on our pillows, our towels heated, slippers placed at side of our bed, curtains drawn, and relaxing music playing for when you enter your room after a day of sightseeing ... The staff on reception and the concierge desk always willing to assist and the waiters in the bar and restaurant going out of their way to make your drink and meals special... Can’t remember all the names Zoe Ajun and team at front desk The maitre d, waiters in grill room, especially who served us and the one who made the crepe Suzette ... Loved the rooms and their style, very bijoux and room service was great when we asked for odd things 😃 Food was brilliant too at the grill room for both dinner and breakfast ...

...The Rubens at the Palace is a perfect location for touring major sites in London. We booked a "view of the Royal Mews" room that was lovely and afforded us a clear view into the Mews with an extra treat of seeing the main grey horse... Our breakfasts were some of the very best ever and service was excellent... A special Thank You and Much Appreciation for Andrew, the Doorman; and Kevin, Guest Relations, as they were both incredibly helpful is pointing out special areas of interest, directions, etc., and were always patient... My stay at the Reubens at the Palace was an amazing stay, this hotel did everything right. The Reubens is best hotel I have ever stayed, it has location, comfort, cleanliness, details, and service... The rooms are big, the beds are comfortable, the sofa has a pull out bed for a third guest, the decor matches the whole Reubens art work theme... The bathroom is up to date, modern and kept stocked... The rooms, bathrooms, corridors, staircases, elevator, restaurants, and front lobby are clean and kept... The hallways have framed illustration of London in different historic eras, while the elevator halls each have a Reuben's painting... Everyday the rooms were cleaned, beds were made, bathroom stocked, they left a scent spray for bed, I mean they were on point... The lobby staff always recognized when walking into the lobby from outside or exiting the elevator... The doormen are some of the most courteous folks I've met, ready to open the door, help get a taxi, carry your luggage, just to make you feel welcomed... Between the lobby staff and doormen, they really went far and beyond, one the member of our group need his ice pack frozen daily, the staff would personally take the ice pack and put in a freezer for him... The hotel has a restaurant, that serves Tea time course and a bar that serves food, both are good additions to this stellar hotel... Now the price might be steep but the level of service and detail is totally worth the cost... Overall if you are looking for a place that is in the Center of London, near some of the most important locations, then the Reubens at the Palace in my opinion is the best in terms of quality, cost, location, and hospitality...

My husband and I stayed here, along with my parents, in separate rooms. Firstly, the old style traditional feel and ambience of the hotel are noteworthy, a trade off of that is that the more contemporary amenities that you find in larger international hotels are limited (for example there is no coffee machine or mini bar / fridge in room)... However the three eating areas offer high tea, fine dining and small dimly lit New York style bar serves the best vodka martini made for us by the loveliest bartender (Fred, who was by no means the pretentious type we encounter so often in Sydney)... We were very happy with the Hotel from the minute we checked in. We found all the staff efficient, friendly and helpful. The service exceeded all our expectations and the place is so beautiful - bedding, table cloths, cutlery, glasses and crockery.
Everyone was amazing but in partIcular, we must mention Rosie the concierge who looked after us so well, Saif the Restaurant Manager who is excellent at his job in running the English Grill and his cooking, and also Raj and his team who aided us from the Taxi when we arrived and saw us off again when we left.
Impeccable, relaxed, friendly and helpful service throughout made it a very enjoyable and relaxing visit.
Well done everyone - we will be back

Stayed here for one night, £163 for a classic double, room only.

Location
This is not our favourite part of London, but it is within reasonable walking distance of many of the popular tourist attractions and sights.

Foyer and welcome
This hotel has excellent reception, concierge and door staff. Nothing was too much trouble and all were friendly and service orientated.

Bedroom and bathroom
We were concerned that our entry level cosy double would be impractical and small, but our worries were unfounded. We had a great room facing the neighbours who live in the biggest house in London - nicely decorated with a great marble bathroom (our room, not the neighbours).

New York bar
Due to being on a work trip, we decided to eat and have drinks in the bar rather than venture out on a wet and cold evening. Mistake. Although the service was good, we found the food we ordered to be overpriced and not great quality, e.g. £25.75 for a mediocre cheeseburger and fries.; £19.75 for a vegan burger served with coleslaw and potato crisps (from a packet). However, when I mentioned this at check-out in the morning, appropriate remedial action was taken by an effective and guest orientated Guest Services Manger.

Our first stay at the Rubens (having stayed in other Red Carnation hotels in the UK and abroad) was a mixed experience. We would use the hotel again, but only to take advantage of their 2 bedroom apartment - of which there are not many in hotels in Central London.

I stayed at Rubens yet again for my yearly business trip to London. This time i had the luck of being upgraded to an absolutely amazing room. Each time I've stayed I've had a different room type, with different interior decor, which makes the experience feel special and unique.
And i must say it still feels like it gets better every year, the staff is even friendlier and and more helpful. The checking in and out, ordering room service or having dinner gets faster and smoother each year.

The treatment is really professional and discrete, my room is always tidy yet i never see any housekeeping or cleaning staff.

I convinced a colleague of mine to stay at the same hotel and he too had a similar comfortable experience as I did. Late night meals, taxis, tickets, directions, it all goes smooth.

The only peeve I have is that the night and evening porter acts really suspicious of me every year, not recognising that I'm staying there, even though everyone else in staff does. And not the usual "can i see you key" or "which room are you in". But simply standing in the front door and asking "what do you want?" or "Do you need help?" in a strange suspicious way. So that sort of breaks the spell and otherwise excellent customer experience. Is it strange to be young, or travel alone for business and staying in this family/holiday oriented hotel?

So you'll have an absolutely great stay at the Rubens. Unless you get back later than 21:30, then you can be met with slightly less warm feeling.

Still 5/5

We recently stayed at The Rubens at the Palace Hotel and found the hotel very welcoming and in a very convenient location. Our breakfast every morning was of very high quality along with outstanding service. On one evening we had dinner in The English Grill and also enjoyed great service and delicious food. The grilled Dover Sole was outstanding. Each evening we enjoyed cocktails in the New York Bar. The atmosphere was great and had a very traditional British feel. Jack, the bar manager, along with his team gave fabulous service along with interesting and informative conversation. Our family felt very welcomed every night when we had cocktails. On a couple of evenings we ordered from the lounge menu. As was the case with all the food this was also delicious and of the highest quality. I highly recommend Rubens if you’re looking for attentive and personalized service, comfortable rooms and outstanding food all in a Central London location.

When you walk through the door to this hotel you are instantly greeted, not just by the doorman but reception staff/concierge are all so welcoming and attentive. The service provided at this hotel is of the highest standard. Staff are friendly, efficient and go over and above to ensure you have a great experience. I particularly noted Paula the front desk manager who worked tirelessly to ensure we were looked after and it wasn’t just us you could see all customers were being given excellent service. The décor is of a regency/palatial style in keeping with its location next to Buckingham Palace. Victoria station for the underground is just around the corner and its easy to walk not only to the Palace but up through Green park to Piccadilly and central London. We went to see the show Hamilton (just a short few minutes away and its excellent and well worth going to see) and the show Wicked is also in a theatre just a short stroll from the hotel. We ate in B Bar next door which did some great pre-theatre snacks and cocktails. Breakfast at the hotel (again excellent service by the restaurant staff) was fantastic, do try the salmon/poached eggs and avocadoes on sourdough its delicious!
Although you are in central London the hotel is well sound proofed and insulated so we weren’t bothered by traffic noise even though we had a room on floor one by the road.
Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend anyone who wants to be in a great location where you can walk to so many of the cities attractions as well as getting that boutique hotel experience.

I stayed here with my two young adult daughters. From the time we arrived till the time we left, we felt like we were treated royally. Everyone was so welcoming, kind and pleasant. The hotel itself is in a wonderful location and the underground is very accessible, close to Victoria Station. Buckingham Palace is across the street and thus made it very easy to see the changing of the guard. The rooms are not large ,but manageable. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are very clean! The nightly “turndown” was an added bonus, and it was very nice that they readily replenished the bottled water in the room for us. I would definitely stay here again!

My partner and I stayed at The Rubens January 12-16 and had a memorable time. The staff is the best I have encountered in a long career and many hotels. They exude a combination of friendliness and professionalism. They notice the little things, and they anticipate needs-- everyone, from cleaners to senior staff gives a sense of caring that you are having a good time, that your needs are met. Add to that the fact that while the rooms are small, they are like little jewel boxes. Everything is done beautifully. The bathrooms have marble floors and walls and are impeccable. Finally the food is terrific. Breakfast is utterly delicious, so is dinner, so are bar snacks. Our organization had a business meeting there and nothing was left undone. They thought of things we had not thought of.
They all really do believe that customer satisfaction is a worthwhile goal, and they certainly have satisfied customers if our group of fifteen is any example.
I have stayed at The Rubens before, and they even remembered the particular wine I like. Little things that matter, every day.
I have recommended this hotel to friends going to London, and I will continue to do so. I would recommend it for business meetings as well as for leisure travel. When you find excellent service, you will always return whenever the opportunity arises.

We visited as a belated special birthday treat for 2 nights. Great location, easy walk from Victoria station Also good for sight seeing - Buckingham palace and St James park nearby. We were in a king room on the 4th. Easy check in. Staff friendly. There was a special mini birthday cake waiting in our room which was a nice touch.

When we came back in the evening the staff had given turn down service in our room with slippers placed next to the bed, calming music on and sleep spray.

We paid an extra £30 each for breakfast as we own a B&B and so we wanted to be spoiled! Lovely fruit salad and pastries and I opted for the omelette. Tasty. Good service. Relaxed atmosphere.

Our only gripe which did rather mar our experience was although we had swiped a card on check in a large amount - £100 over our predicted bill, was taken from our account the day before we checked out. We then had to discuss a refund. This made for an awkward departure of an otherwise enjoyable stay.

Having read other reviews I can't really add much! As mentioned the staff are second to none and our 4 night stay over Christmas was perfect. The little extras were so nice and helped make the experience what it was, right down to the filled Christmas stocking on the door on Christmas day! The Hotel itself was traditionally decorated which was very welcoming and cosy and the complimentary hot drinks in the Reception were a special treat that I tried not to take advantage of too often! The hot chocolate and extras (chocolate drops, marshmallows etc.) did nothing for my waistline along with the complimentary mince pies several times a day and the handful of chocolate balls! But it was all too nice to ignore!
The room we had facing the Royal Mews was not massive but we had enough room to hang clothes and there was lots of drawer space. We were able to sit in the chairs and relax the bathroom was perfectly functional and both quite luxuriously decorated in my opinion, but I dont stay in many hotels of this standard and this was a treat! The public areas are warmly decorated and the restaurant is stunning! I loved the different mirrors and chandeliers in various rooms of the hotel, the dining room ones being my favourite! The 2 lifts are small and not too fast but then... whats the rush?? It is an old building and if you want lots of floors with massive rooms and whizzing lifts go and stay in a new build modern hotel with no atmosphere! We went for a relaxing break and got one!
Now the staff....well every reviewer seems to think the same, The Rubens has the most amazing staff and I commend them greatly! From Aaron and Ed on the door to Alice the customer services manager, the whole team in the reception of which there were many to the lovely housekeeping ladies, the restaurant waiting staff, chefs and lounge waiting staff I couldn't fault a single one! It seems it is their personal goal to make you happy in your stay, how wonderfully refreshing!
There are local hostelries and restaurants if you didn't wish to dine in the Hotel, Browns being just literally around the corner and the mainline Victoria station is about a 10 minute walk but there is a tube station entrance a bit closer also around the corner. There are shops close by and it really is in such a convenient position for sightseeing being right next to Buckingham palace and a very short walk to Westminster Abbey and further on to the Houses of Parliament and the Embankment.
In short, for me it was the most wonderful stay in the most perfect position, it was just a shame about the weather but this is England!! Thank goodness for Rubens umbrellas and the hot chocolate on return from a days sightseeing!!

We had a group of six and were attended to with utmost care the moment we arrived. Our 11 year old son was given particular individual attention. We were grateful for that. The bar was quaint with excellent afternoon food selections. Breakfast was an extravaganza if you desired it. The train station and bus stop are one block away and who doesn't love watching the queens cars come and go! The rooms are smaller but large in comparison to most in the city at this price range. The staff were helpful and attentive 100% of the way. We will be back!
