My wife and I have been here for afternoon tea on a few occasions - the last time was about 5 years ago - pre-parenthood! We don't get out much as a couple much these days, so it's always a rare treat. And it's usually for afternoon tea! The moment we got to the entrance of the hotel, we greeted with a smile and pleasant small talk from the doorman. Our coats were taken at the lobby by another friendly and chatty member of staff and we were shown straight through to the familiar library room. The old-fashioned decor might not be to everyone's taste, but it's undeniably cosy, well-kept and fitting in with the character of the hotel and surrounding area. The tea menu was excellent - although there were no oolong teas on offer. Tea was served promptly and it was delicious. Piping hot and served in beautiful cups. The sandwiches which followed were a good selection. I loved their take on coronation chicken - a small, round (but well-filled) sandwich with chopped almonds on the outside! Very nice. All the bread felt and tasted fresh and were obviously made that day - no hard edges or obvious signs of refrigeration. We had seconds on the sandwiches too! Always appreciated. Although we had to ask - whereas other tables were offered it. The scones were one of the best we've had. I thought the honey and white chocolate scones were going to sickly and sweet, but they were a delight! So light, fluffy and moreish. The clotted cream was just right also - not straight from the fridge. And then the patisserie! Oh man! Such quality. Every single one was knockout. Perfect looking and perfect tasting. There were a two we couldn't quite finish and took them home - with an extra one thrown in (again - we had to ask, whereas other were offered extras - why were we being left out?). We were allowed a new pot of tea so we could both try something different. Although my wife's tea seemed to be something different to what was on the menu. It's was smoky like a Lapsang Souchong (which they didn't have on the menu)!? All of the servers were attentive, friendly and smiling. The atmosphere was lovely too. A couple of people on other tables were celebrating birthdays - including a young girl who was given a corgi soft toy as a gift form the hotel! Which was a nice touch. All in all. A wonderful afternoon tea experience! Thank you to all the staff. Looking forward to going back again.

It was a really memorable experience for the family and we will definitely come back again. Many thanks to all the wonderful staff and a particular shout out to Kirsty in the reservations team who went above and beyond to make it special for them.

We have just returned from one of our many Afternoon Tea trips to this most wonderful hotel, the Tea was exceptional and second to none. As always we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes by all of the staff. Our Afternoon Tea was exceptional and we was made to feel special which is something that Rubens seem to be able to do with ease. We cannot recommend this place enough and it’s lovely to see it getting busier again. Our most grateful thanks for to Mohan and Johal who looked after us so beautifully and helped to make our day special.

We booked afternoon tea for Saturday 17th October as a treat for the whole family. The whole experience was utterly delightful from the decadent surroundings to the sublime treats, we just couldn't believe our luck. Our daughters were treated like little princesses from start to finish. We were served by Mohan Senchuri who was an absolute delight and went above and beyond to make our afternoon so special. We would thoroughly recommend The Rubens to anyone looking for an indulgent treat when visiting Buckingham Palace or any of the tourist attractions nearby.
