We have not stayed in London for several years but needed to travel for business as well as leisure, right before this new lockdown. The Grosvenor House Hotel was exactly the location we wanted and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived and the porter taking our car keys to valet park it, to the excellent receptionist who went through all the information we needed and a fabulous room made for a very pleasant 2 nights away in the capital. Breakfast is served in a very open and spacious room overlooking the park. The cooked breakfast was very good and the safety conscious buffet offering was more than adequate. Service was very good and attentive.

Stayed here last weekend and had a lovely time. The hotel goes out of their way to make your stay good. I had an executive room which gave me access to the club room which at the moment isnt like it used to be, but I had everything I wanted. My room was lovely and spacious and well decorated with a lovely huge bed. Breakfast is now served in the restaurant and was lovely. There was a small covid friendly buffet on where everything is served in individual dishes then a large menu for hot food and everybody is catered for. Hot/cold drinks avialable all day in the club room and at 5.30 canapes and alcoholic drinks were served. The hotel is 1st class with its Covid cleanliness, masks and sanitisers all over the hotel for guests to use and everything cleaned thoroughly. Felt so sorry because the hotel itself was nearly empty mainly due I think largely to overseas tourists not about. Hope things pick up soon for them and if you want a nice weekend away in London then this is the place. Also going around London everything is Covid friendly, nearly everyone wearing masks, shops adhering to policies. Will be back soon.

After getting our original brunch cancelled elsewhere, we came to the Marriott for dinner instead hoping they’d have a table for us. Graham the doorman took is in and led us through making sure there was a table for us. He was so kind and lovely and we couldn’t ask to be greeted by somebody any better! X

A Nice Stay at the JW Marriott We are in London at least twice a year for business, but this was not a business trip - it was to attend a memorial service for a good friend. Some years ago, we had attended a few events at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Park Lane London, hosted by our local United States Football Team (NFL), as that was their home hotel for the game played down in Twickenham. We were impressed by the JW Marriott, so decided to stay there on the beginning of this trip, before moving to Somerset for the services. In early September, we flew to London from our home in Phoenix via Los Angeles. This is not our normal route, as we like to connect at San Francisco, for UA flight 930, because it gets us to LHR in the early afternoon, and by the time we get to Mayfair, it is time to check in to our hotel. However, we had to do the LAX connection this time, so we arrived at LHR at 12:20pm, and were at the JW Marriott before we could get our room. We did the check-in, and then retired to the Park Room, just off of the lovely lobby, to have some Champagne, and await our room assignment. First, the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London, at 86-90 Park Lane in Mayfair, is a lovely property. It should not be confused with two other Marriott properties, in the near vicinity, as it is the flagship of the three hotels in this area of Mayfair. As we had arrived a few hours before official check-in, the Champagne turned to still wines, but within an hour (still well before we should have been able to check in), an agent approached our table, and offered to show us to our room. We were shown to Suite 751, overlooking Hyde Park and Park Lane. It was a lovely room, and a full suite. As for actually “overlooking Hyde Park,” because of the shape of the building, being rather a U, with a square bottom, on this end of the tower, and NOT being at the very end of the U, the view was more of the other ascender of the U, with a sliver of Hyde Park, and Park Lane visible - so maybe a “partial Park view?” For many years, we have had a suite, at a near-by hotel, with a balcony, and a full view of West London, Hyde Park, Park Lane, and all of Hyde Park Corner - this was not such a view - but was also a nicer suite, in all other respects. As a plus, the staff at the JW Marriott was much nicer, and that goes for everyone, who we encountered on this stay. The room was also in sort of U, with the entrance at the bottom, and the full livingroom to the left, with the bedroom with a little sitting area, plus the bathroom to the right. The livingroom had a sofa (do not know if it pulled out into a sleeper, but doubt it), a small desk, a refreshment center, and a large, flat-screen TV. The refreshment center was stocked with wine, spirits and beverages, for a fee. Then, there was a nice Nespresso coffee maker with full coffee caddy. The bedroom had a very comfortable King bed, it’s own little sitting area, a bench at the foot of the bed, and another large, flat-screen TV. The windows had draperies and sheers, and the draperies did a good job of keeping the bedroom dark. The bathroom, adjoining the bedroom, was tiled in marble, and had an ample walk-in shower, with both a “rain” shower head, and a hand wand with spray nozzle. Because my wife has two artificial hips, a true walk-in shower is usually in our request, and in our BonVoy profile. It also had an adequately large tub (with spray nozzle), a toilet (not separated by partitions, or doors), a bidet and these had a handy shelf built in behind them. I say “handy,” because there was a single sink with a small vanity, and the extra towels took up the shelf below that vanity, so there was not all that much room for storing make-up, and toiletries. Both the shower and the tub had grab bars. We had a heated towel rack, but with the temps in Sept, never really used that - would be good in the Winter though. The lighting was OK, but could have used another ceiling light, close to the mirror. It did have a separate make-up mirror on the wall. We had a full compliment of Bulgari bath/shower products, plus other amenities, such as a comb, and cotton balls, as well - nice. The shower had good water pressure, and we always had plenty of hot water. The bathroom had an outlet for a shaver, as well. Just off of the bedroom, there was an ample closet, with a built-in safe, and plenty of drawers. As this trip involved quite a few different sets of clothing (except no work wardrobe for my wife this time), the closet was appreciated. All around the suite, we had power strips, and most had US, as well as UK outlets (so 110V and 220V), plus plugs for adapters. We were able to easily charge up our devices, though we did need to press a few of our US to UK adapters into service, in the evening. There was even an Ethernet cable, but I do not know what speed it might have been, as I did not use it. We had three telephones in the suite, one each in the bedroom, livingroom and bathroom. Not sure about the phone in the bathroom, but the other two were multi-line, with quick dial buttons to most hotel services. There were two thermostats, which worked perfectly. The electricity was controlled by a Master switch, at the doorway. The windows were doubles, but one could open them a bit, if desired. The double windows did a great job of keeping the traffic noise from Park Lane out - only a few loud, exotic sports cars, and a few motorcycles could be heard. We heard nothing from within the hotel. We had few interactions with the staff, but from our reservations agent at check-in, to the housekeeping staff, the doormen, and the folk in the restaurants/bars, all were great, and we wanted for nothing. During this stay, we dined on-property at the JW Steakhouse, the lovely Park Room, the Marriott Lounge* and visited the Red Bar, plus walked to all of our other dining, in Mayfair - all just blocks from the JW Marriott Grosvenor House London. For 20 years, we have always stayed in Mayfair, and find it, plus the location of the JW Marriott, to be wonderfully convenient to so very much - Hyde Park, Green Park, St James Park, all of Mayfair, so even Buckingham Palace. Just an ideal neighborhood, from which to experience much of London. * A few trips prior to this one, we stayed at one of those other Marriott hotels, and just up Park Lane from the JW Marriott. We went to the Lounge there three times, to find it completely overrun by screaming children, who would fill two plates with heaping portions from the buffet, and then run throughout the Lounge, spilling much of it. We hesitated to visit the Lounge at the JW Marriott, as those memories were still fresh in our minds. We did, and were astounded at the difference - this Lounge was spotlessly clean, beautifully lit, and very, very comfortable. While there were a few families, everyone was so wonderfully behaved - perfect little ladies and gentlemen. All of the patrons were quietly eating, reading a newspaper, working silently on their computer - it was in stark contrast to the other hotel’s Lounge, and was a lovely, comfortable place to be.
