I searched for a couple of months to find the right place to stay for a very special trip I had planned with my mother to London. I was looking for a place that was intimate, not a cookie cutter type hotel, and with a good location and price point for that location. I had never heard of the Melia hotel chain before. When I discovered the Melia London Kensington hotel, I felt it was the right choice to spend our 7 nights in London.

We booked the Premium King Room.

Pre-arrival, I wrote an email to the hotel informing them of my special trip with my mother and how excited we were. I asked about storing luggage because we were due for an early arrival and I anticipated that the room would not be ready.

I received a very well written and welcoming email from Peter, one of the front desk clerks. He gave me some options if the room wasn't ready upon our arrival and some other suggestions should I be interested. Peter's warm response got us off to a great start with my expectations of the hotel.

Upon arrival, the outdoor entrance had a canopy of beautiful flowers which were so welcoming. It was decorated for the coronation that took place in the prior week and the upcoming flower show.

We were a couple hours early. Yi Jao, an absolutely darling front desk clerk, was in the middle of checking in a guest but guided us to a relaxing sitting area where she served us sparkling water and let us know the next shift would be coming shortly and that we would be taken care of.

We got to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and the lovely scent that permeated throughout the lobby. Jonatan soon greeted us as he came on his shift and offered us another drink of sparkling water. We were very lucky because the room was actually ready. The check-in was seamless and very personal as Jonatan explained the beautiful artwork we admired and gave us the history of William Morris. Steven, another front desk clerk, also joined in the conversation. They both were very knowledgeable and passionate about the influence of William Morris on the designs of the hotel. They also gave us a history of the surrounding area.

Yi Jao accompanied us to our room and we were greeted with a beautiful note on stationary with William Morris designs along with yummy macaroons.

The room was magnificent. It had very high ceilings. It looked just like the picture on the website. Super clean and inviting. There was a lot of love and care put into the design of these rooms. Two beautiful frames of William Morris's wallpaper decorated the walls, tissue box of William Morris design in the bathroom and teacups with his design. The space was utilized appropriately with modern furniture and accented with wall fixtures that were in muted gold. Just divine!

The bathroom was modern with clean lines. You could choose from a hand held shower fixture or the rain shower shower head. I used both. Great water pressure.

The room also had a Nespresso machine, which I had never had before and am determined to buy one now. It was outstanding coffee and a copper tea kettle for my mother to make tea. They provided a good selection.

The bed was extremely comfortable and a good size for two people. Plenty of pillows to use.

We were pleasantly surprised that housekeeping tended to our room daily. When we did bump into the housekeeping staff, they also gave us a warm and sincere welcome. Our room was always kept in order with fresh towels and replacements of the Nespresso coffee and tea that my mother and I were devouring.

The room was equipped with a mini bar, but we did not use that.

Every time we came in from our day, if Steven and Jonatan were at the front desk and not tending to a guest, they both would get up and greet us and chat about our day. We always had a nice welcome from them and the other staff members.

Additionally, Steven and Jonatan would also provide us more answers to our questions on the history of London and provide us some new suggestions to explore. Steven and Farwa, another desk clerk, gave us a lifesaving recommendation for an app to use to help us catch the buses and tube. We used that app every day. Another girl at the front desk, I can't remember her name, was also very kind and helpful in setting up our wake up call before departure.

Alba, the guest relations manager, greeted us and gave us tips on where to go when we let her know of our itinerary.

We did not eat at the restaurant solely because our schedule was packed.

One evening we were offered a turndown service, but we declined. We very much appreciated the offer, however.

I did manage to use the gym the day before our departure. It was terrific. They have two treadmills, elliptical, bike, weights and a mat to do stretches with some other exercise equipment. Fresh towels, and a changing area if you need it. Very clean gym.

Upon checkout, Mohammed called a black cab for us since my Uber account was not working. Since it was quite early hours in the morning, he stepped outside to watch for it. He offered to carry out our luggage but we declined.

Every single staff member at this hotel put their heart and soul into making sure my mother and I enjoyed our stay in the hotel and in London. They are proud to represent their hotel and to represent the city of London. Their hospitality was extremely touching and moving for us. They became our family away from home. Because of their sincere hospitality and the beautiful accommodations, my mother and I had an absolutely magnificent stay in London.

If you are looking for a highly personalized stay with a charming atmosphere, then I highly recommend this hotel. This hotel definitely felt like a five star hotel and should be reconsidered to be designated as one. It's located in a beautiful neighborhood and is very accessible to bus stops and tube stops. They are just a short walk away.

Should we return to London, we will definitely stay in this hotel again and for future travels, we look forward to staying at other Melia hotels.

This is our favourite hotel in Kensington especially for it's location and we stayed for around seven nights in room 413 late Dec early Jan. This room has a second room which is perfect should you be travelling with a third party as we were, it has it's own tv, w/c, shower and bed so the +1 can maintain their privacy while also accessing the main room.

The rooms have had a recent make over too since its change from a Rydges and overall ours was well laid out and everything worked as it should. It included tea / coffee making facilities and a fridge however after noting nothing was getting cold, discovered it had not been plugged in so they may want to check all of the others? The only negative would be to say that the room didn't have that "warm" feeling it used to (we have had this room before). This is despite the new warm colour scheme used and the design of the lights which on the latter, I found to be insufficiently bright and often found myself going to turn them on only to discover they already were. I put this lack of a warm feeling down to the floor coverings which appeared to be a textured vinyl and while it's probably easier to clean, it just isn't as nice as carpet. Overall though I don't want to take anything away from the fact that our room and bathrooms were spotless and exuded a feeling of high quality.

A big plus is that the Melia staff we have had the pleasure of dealing with since the change from Rydges still provide the same excellent service that we were used to. We enjoyed our stay and their attention to detail was second to none. Those who assisted and helped arrange our stay will know who they are and went out of their way to book us in as my partner is a long time Rydges customer at this location and wanted to stay here regardless of the change.

Their breakfast is of a high quality with many hot and cold options available so you should be able to find something to your liking, the coffee was also good and the service excellent. Sadly I have to say one thing which we missed the most since the change was the Polo Bar, this had a great atmosphere especially in the winter and the guests loved it so although there is a bar in the main dining area, it just doesn't have that cosy feeling the Polo bar did.

Overall I will say this is a hotel worthy of your consideration, it is within easy walking distance to the Gloucester Rd tube station (Piccadilly line from Heathrow) and there are many restaurants and shopping options available nearby, not to mention it is also close to the V&A and Natural History Museums and you can walk to Harrods and Kensington Palace too.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and despite the minor items noted, I would certainly still stay here again without question.

The rooms have all had a recent make over too since it has changed from a Rydges and while I and my partner dare I say it, didn't love it we also didn't dislike them but just felt they were perhaps in our opinion a little sparse. I.E the open wardrobe.

I guess that is just a matter of taste but we did feel the rooms lacked that warm welcoming feeling we were used to over the many years but you have to accept change I guess and I don't want to take anything away from the fact they were spotless and of a high quality.

Me and my family stayed at the Melia Kensington for 4 nights. Although the hotel was unusually quiet given the limited amount of tourists due to COVID-19, we had a fantastic stay. The staff were super friendly, especially Israel on reception. I believe the hotel has had a very recent refurbishment, so everything from the reception, corridors, breakfast area and obviously the rooms are finished to a great modern standard and makes the stay just that bit nicer. The options on the breakfast menu covered all bases and suited all of my family members. The Nutella & Banana crepes and Granola with mixed fruit + nuts were two solid favourites.

As for the hotels approach to cleanliness given the current climate regarding Covid-19, I cannot fault the hotel. Upon entry into reception was stands with hand sanitiser, complimentary face masks and gloves which were encouraged to be worn during the communal areas of the hotel. Staff members including reception staff, restaurant staff and cleaning staff all worn face masks and gloves. Rooms were spotlessly clean and individual glasses and even the TV remote were in clear packages labelled ‘disinfected’. This was reassuring for my family.

All in all a great stay, with really friendly staff, a perfect approach to cleanliness in the current climate and I will definitely be going back on my next trip to London.

We stayed here for one night to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We arrived at the hotel a few hours before check in and to our surprise, our room was ready. I had booked a suite and was not disappointed. The room was amazing. It had a lovely little lounge area with a tv and tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge and a safe. Then the doors opened onto the bedroom with a super king size bed, dressing up table, tv and free standing rail for clothes. The bathroom was also of impressive size with the most amazing shower ever and a lovely big bath. Everything was disinfected and wrapped so I felt incredibly safe staying in the hotel. The decor was beautiful and the hotel even left my boyfriend a birthday message in our room along with a tub of shortbread biscuits which was very kind. We loved the location of the hotel, 5 minutes walk from Kensington Gardens which are beautiful in the autumn time! Also less than 5 minutes to the nearest tube station and a Waitrose. The breakfast was amazing and there was a really wide choice of options. We couldn’t have been happier with our stay, thank you.

I stayed in the Melia Kensington this weekend for my birthday, and I had the best time ever. The hotel had thought of everything - there was even a cake and balloons in my room which was a lovely touch and made the stay feel really special.

The room I stayed in was amazing, I loved the modern and stylish decor, and the bed was super comfy! It really felt like a calm little getaway after exploring a busy city. The location is great as it is a short walk to the tube station and Kensington itself is just beautiful.

The hotel was spotlessly clean, and every care had been taken to make sure it was safe in light of the current Covid situation. Everything was wrapped in plastic and labelled, ‘disinfected,’ which was really reassuring, and face masks and sanitiser were offered in the communal areas of the hotel.

Lastly, I would love to say a huge thank you to the staff for being so friendly and helpful, I felt really welcome.

Visited this hotel before and liked it. Stayed again for my belated birthday with my wife as lockdown prevented our stay in March. The lengths the management and staff have gone to to make the hotel safe is remarkable. For example the remote for the TV has a hygenic disposable cover as well as any glasses or cups in the room that have also been disinfected and placed in a clear bag ready for use. At breakfast I asked for salt and pepper, these were bought to us by Gonzales in disinfected bags just for our use (see pictures) It made us feel very safe and we would recommend staying here through Covid 19 with the confidence to know that everything that could be done to make our stay safe was done. Well done the Melia team!!!

The Melia Kensington is located only a few minutes walk from the Gloucester Road tube station, which has connections to the Piccadilly and Circle Lines on the tube, making it very accessible and a great base for getting into and around the rest of London. If you don't fancy the tube, we found it a pleasant walk to Kensington Palace and Kensington High Street, looking at about 20 mins to the palace and 30 mins to the top of the high street, but it was a pleasant and straightforward walk.

We arrived early but to our surprise the room was ready and we were checked in by two helpful members of the team. Initially we were given room 109, on the 1st floor. The room itself was spacious and nicely decorated, although I would say the bathroom could benefit from being touched up as there was chipped paintwork, cracked tiles on the floor and it was a fairly small bathroom. In the end, we asked if we could switch rooms, due to circumstances beyond our and the hotels control and also room 109 faces the Melia signage and I struggled to sleep with the neon glow in the room. We requested to change rooms and the staff were very accommodating with our request and we were checked into room 304, which faces the back of the hotel and was much better. The bathroom was more spacious and I felt the location of this room was better than the first we were allocated. We appreciated the flexibility of the staff in moving us.

Breakfast was a choice from a varied menu, we enjoyed various things across our two night stay, omelette, pastries, granola, veggie full English, all were delicious and the lattes were really lovely too!

We would definitely consider staying here again, taking on board the tip about asking for a back facing room next time we go.

The Melia in Kensington was absolutely wonderful. I usually stay at much more costly hotels in London and I will stay the Melia staff, rooms and attention were comparable with some of the best 5 star hotels in London. I was blown away with their staff kindness, attention and decor of the rooms and comfort of the rooms. Well Done!

Overall a lovely hotel in the centre of Kensington, with the tube and bus stations next door, 10 min walking distance from the Science Museum.
However I went to London for business and brought my children with me. The morning I had an early meeting, I discovered that even though I paid for the B&B option, asking for a room service was impossible. Upsetting.
The beds are not very comfortable and I would definitely suggest to spend more attention to the cleanliness of the rooms.
The design of the lobby is nice, but somehow not inviting to have a coffee with your business partners as it feels like being in the middle of everyone.
