We stayed for two nights on a last minute get away. Let me just say that obviously COVID has had an impact on occupancy and services in hotels across the board and it is difficult to keep expectations in perspective. That being said, the property is attractive, the art nice and the old meets new feel reminiscent of firmdale properties, but I just felt it needed a buff up in places (most noticeably the restaurant) as it’s already showing signs of wear and tear despite a relatively recent refurbishment. Flowers are also much needed in public spaces to inject some life into the place. Staff were uniformly pleasant, yet seemed as if they did not know what to do with themselves with so few guests and while well intentioned the whole experience was just a bit awkward. At check-in, we were provided a folder with some information regarding COVID-19 measures, room service etc and this could have been better produced (cheap looking photocopies) and seemed insufficient to replace what has likely been removed from the rooms for current health reasons, with no overnight or breakfast room service menus and no relevant hotel information. We were upgraded to a “junior suite” room as part of an AmEx fine hotel and resort benefit, although I’m still wondering what separates a deluxe room from junior suite - perhaps it’s a sofa and some square feet/meters, but for a significant premium and with just a side street view - had I paid for this room category I would not have been happy as I found the room to be similar to many standard offerings in less expensive properties. Bedding however was nice, room electronics/climate control and tv were adequate and functional. Bathroom and tub were excellent and while amenities and hand sanitizer were plentiful the towel and at least one of the bath robes have seen better days. There were no evening treats, in room fruit etc.- although lavender pillow spray was provided at turndown. Overnight room service was again bare bones with just soup, toasted sandwich or caesars salad available - tasty but inadequate for a luxury property and clearly a cost saving measure. Breakfast in the bar/restaurant was fine, yet nothing spectacular and the service hit/miss. Check out required removal of some incorrect charges, which was taken care of swiftly but it was surprising all the same that this should happen. We did not use the gym/spa or the bar which never seemed open. Overall it’s a good but not great hotel with an excellent location for easy access to Knightsbridge/Harrods/Hyde Park but like many properties right now seems to be struggling to provide a basic, never mind a luxury experience to match their rates. I think until normal services have resumed post COVID that this and many other “top end” properties resting on their laurels should focus their efforts on solidifying their low occupancy reduced service experience. Until then while in London I think that I will stick with the major chains/brands where expectations are more easily met and there is not such an egregious rate disconnect.…
My wife and I recently stayed for 3 days at the Belmond Cadogan Hotel on a mini-break to London, and simply could not recommend this hotel highly enough. Everything about the Cadogan is top quality. From the moment you arrive the friendly staff are ‘on it’ and making you feel special, a feeling which is augmented by the beautifully appointed building. Our room was comfortable, with a great bathroom and all the mod cons you’d expect in such a venue. Nice gym in the basement with enough equipment to help you burn off any excess from indulging in the bar or restaurant. Breakfast (included) was fantastic, with a wide range of options to choose from, and great coffee. Loved the tea cosies that the Head chef’s mother had knitted, and the customised cups and saucers! We loved the bar, which has an easy, elegant feel and great cocktails on offer- nice touch to have a little sample cocktail when you order, hidden in the menu, and the popcorn to nibble on is delicious as well! We drove down from the Midlands and the hotel took care of valet parking, which was reasonable and helped make arrival and departure nice and simple. The location is perfect for exploring London. You’re 5 mins from Sloane Square, the Kings Road and Knightsbridge, and a lovely 30 minor so walk from the West End, so perfect if you want to get around on foot. If you have stayed at a Belmond property before then you really won’t be disappointed by the Cadogan. As always, the staff are truly outstanding and the setting is perfect. Not a cheap option, but if you want to treat yourself to a special hotel then head to the Cadogan! In terms of Covid, we felt completely safe and comfortable here. Plenty of hand sanitizer dotted around the hotel and all staff wearing masks. Maybe we’re just getting used to all this now, but it certainly didn’t spoil any part of the stay. …
We had a very relaxed and enjoyable supper at the Cadogan. We live locally and had intended to try out the restaurant offering and we decided to drop in one evening when we were out for a walk. We had pre dinner drinks on the small outside terrace before going inside for supper. The atmosphere was lively without being raucous and the service from start to finish was very good - attentive but not at all overly formal or overbearing which suits us well. The menu was simple but good and the quality of the food and the presentation was impressive. Given the location and Belmond brand (which can occasionally stray into the ‘overpriced’ category) we thought the offering was good value overall. We would certainly return.
My husband and I had been planning our wedding reception for over a year, however due to Covid our original reception venue cancelled. We visited the Belmond and immediately knew this was the prefect venue for our reception. The garden and hotel are stunning. The staff are polite, welcoming and very professional. The food from the Adam Handling restaurant was fantastic (would recommend the cheese donuts and chicken butter). The rooms are very beautiful, clean and have everything you could need. We have travelled all over the world but the service and experience here was the best we have ever had. The team at the Belmond are very flexible and accommodating. If we could give a higher rating we would. A massive thank you to Stuart and his team at the Belmond for making our day even more special.…
Impromptu trip to London to meet my husband. Belmond Cadogan was recommended by our travel agent. Quite simply, they had us at "Hello". Elegant, classic and quite fabulous. Caring employees made us feel special from the moment we entered. The doorman who offers an umbrella and checks the license plate of the Uber before you get in. Special thanks to Diana and Jamie of the Concierge team. Breakfast was abundant and delicious, the bar area the perfect place for a glass of bubbly before departing for dinner. Tea in the late afternoon with too many delicious options to choose from. And while the gym is not large, it has everything you need for a cardio and weight session. Love the location: walk virtually everywhere and the shopping is fantastic...Thank you, Belmond, we look forward to a return visit.…
