Travelers' Choice
A favourite of independent business and leisure travellers from all over the world, this hotel gets the details right: complimentary WiFi, free English breakfast, a popular lounge bar and restaurant, and discounted use of the adjacent spa and swimming pool at Aquilla Health and Fitness Club. The Rembrandt's beautifully modernised Edwardian rooms were originally apartments for Harrods. The building itself dates from 1911, and was one of the first steel and concrete structures in the UK. All 194 rooms and suites are smartly designed to feel both spacious and cosy, with high technology including flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and free local calls. WiFi is also free in public areas. All guests enjoy a free full English breakfast buffet, included in the room rate. Palette Restaurant serves seasonal British and international cuisine at lunchtimes, including a traditional carvery most days and always on Sundays. In the evenings, you can dine in the stylish Conservatory Bar, or sip a cocktail in 1606 Lounge Bar. And what better way to celebrate your visit to London than with a traditional Afternoon Tea, complete with finger sandwiches and fresh scones with clotted cream? The Rembrandt Hotel places you directly across from London's Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), within a 10-minute walk of the Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Hyde Park, Harrods and the Royal Albert Hall. The location is superb – surrounded by restaurants, bars, shops and cultural attractions. You can stroll to South Kensington underground station in five minutes. From here, District, Circle and Piccadilly Tube lines take you straight to the City of London, Heathrow Airport and mainline train stations including Paddington and Victoria.

Stayed three nights sept 2022. Have stayed many times before and as ever, the staff were great, one or two even remembered me, the room was spotless and the breakfast was all you could ask for. Add to that the location and there is nothing not to like. KP

Lovely hotel in a prime location. Felt very safe. Breakfast buffet was included with room price. Everything you could want. The best croissants (are we in France?!), eggs, breakfast potatoes, yogurt, fruit, cheese, deli meats, bacon (like ham, not American bacon), juices, tea, coffee, toast. Also some items that are British beans and such. Several blocks to the Underground South Kensington station. Across the street from the V & A museum. Short walk to Harrolds, a must see! Amazing food hall, tea shops, chocolates and gems! Nice bar off the lobby with sofas and comfy chairs. Wine was reasonable price, 7 pounds. Two free drinks for booking room directly with hotel. Executive twin room was small, but adequate. Two chairs a table and a desk with chair, Robes, free bottle of water in mini-fridge daily. Nice view of the V & A museum from two large windows, that open. AC in room. Great shower!

Dear travelhints2016 Thank you for your detailed review of The Rembrandt and for awarding us your top score. I am delighted that all aspects of your stay, met or exceeded your expectations and that we provided clean, comfortable accommodation, in a great, safe location with friendly service. As you know we are in the Museum Quarter, directly opposite the V&A, close to Harrods and Hyde Park. Within walking distance, there are an abundance of pubs, cafes and restaurants which cater to all culinary tastes and budgets, there really is plenty to see, do and eat!. I am thrilled that you enjoyed our extensive buffet breakfast, this is included in all of our rates and so therefore it is the busiest meal of the day at the hotel, I am pleased that we provided everything you wanted at his important meal We want all of our guests to have a positive experience and to wish to return so I hope that you will consider returning to us on a future trip to London. Kind regards Lesley Denyer Customer Service Manager

Just to make all potential guests out there aware that this hotel group has a very strict cancellation policy. They will NOT refund your trip regardless of the reason. They will also not contact you to try and make other arrangements despite what they say on their website. I'm sure they're very friendly once you arrive but not so good at customer service prior to arrival. This was supposed to be my honeymoon and between the incompetent airline employees that I had to cancel (they admitted that they errored when I made my booking) and now the hotel, this is a trip that has turned into a nightmare. It's too bad because it looks like a very nice property.

We had a great experience at The Rembrandt (may 2022). The team were helpful, and the amenities were great. The room was clean and perfect for a weekend exploring London. Great having free breakfast, not often you would get this in London.

We originally booked this hotel for an October 2019 trip. After a medical issue kept us from traveling at that time we rescheduled it for March 2020. Then the world shut down. This hotel was very patient and accommodating as we tried to reschedule through the pandemic. Well we finally made it with their help and are thankful for that. Rooms are very clean although small. Breakfast was nice with several hot and cold choices. They have a nice lounge with tv’s to unwind and relax with a bar and food service that was very good. Location is close to the tubes and a nice area with restaurants. Right across the street from one museum and a five minute walk to two more. Very nice stay!!

Dear Gerzeygurl Thank you for reviewing The Rembrandt following your recent stay, after waiting three years to visit! I am thrilled that our team, were very patient in helping to reschedule your trip, throughout the pandemic. I am pleased that we provided very clean accommodation, with a good buffet breakfast and that you enjoyed relaxing in 1606 Lounge Bar. As you know we are directly opposite the Victoria & Albert Museum, close to the Natural History and Science Museums, as well as being a short walk to Harrods and Hyde Park. Our guests also have the choice of two underground stations, either South Kensington or Knightsbridge,, which makes travelling around the capital easy. Thank you for awarding us your top score, we are so pleased that after such a long wait, you had a very nice stay. Kind regards Lesley Denyer Customer Service Manager

We returned alone to the Rembrandt for a two night visit for the first time since early 2020. The location is excellent, at least for a ‘cultural’ visitor – at the W edge of Knightsbridge, close to key museums and a short bus or Underground journey to many others, the theatre district and Mayfair. Shoppers are well served (e.g. Harrods is 800 m and many options are close by). And a 45 minute direct Underground transit to LHR is available from South Kensington, just a five minute walk. There’s an adjacent but independent spa accessible from the lobby (discounted fees for hotel guests). Our ‘executive king’ room was comfortable but ‘compact’, as was its bathroom (shower over small jacuzzi bath) but both were well equipped and intelligently designed. Everything worked. However, rooms are serviced only on request., which is an unnecessary irritant The online option didn’t make much difference to check-in. WiFi is free and simple to use. As usual, all the staff we met were professional and pleasant, although we didn’t test them much. Breakfast was never the highlight of a visit to the Rembrandt but it was normally adequate. But this time it was really disappointing each time (at 8:30) – a buffet with no visible staff, low quality juice, poor choice of fruit, stale croissants, grey lukewarm scrambled egg, too many items offered packaged (but at least the Americano coffee was good). Given our previous good experience of the hotel over ten years, and its pleasant staff, we record a marginal 4/5. But a first time visitor might go a notch lower. Improve the breakfast!

Having stayed here previously and loved it, we booked 2 weeks here as a home base in London. An expensive exercise but we were sure it would be worth it for more than just its fabulous location. Prior to check in, we were emailed asking us to check in online and advising us we would have to notify a request to have our room serviced because of staff shortages. We did just that. The room was small and whilst staying in the middle of the London heatwave, we were dismayed every time the a/c was switched off after the room was serviced. Coming back to a stuffy room was not pleasant given the time it took to cool down again. The room is showing its age, with wear and tear including the towel rail falling off every time it was touched. Also a little rich that despite staying at the hotel, there is a cost of 10 pounds to access the adjacent pool. Perhaps next time the location alone wont be enough. The hotel tag line "psst were still here" might be more pertinent than ever, if this place cant move past what is arguably a Covid hangover.

You can’t beat the location of this hotel across from the V&A and in walking distance to Harrods. The rooms are nice and clean, so a bit small and the mattresses need an upgrade. The shower in the bathroom is great so. The breakfast could be a tie bit better. The hotel has the best concierge in town with Mr Neil Cowan. He has fabulous recommendations and takes care of the guests, as do his colleagues. We will stay here again.

Although a bit late leaving this review, we just wanted to say how welcome we were made to feel when returning to the Rembrandt. We wanted to say a big thank you to Neil for going out of his way when we needed to find a room with a softer bed for my wife… nothing was too much trouble, also to Pablo who helped us when we arrived. Just wanted to mention that the curry in the bar lounge was amazing, really enjoyed it & having 2 free drinks for booking direct was a nice bonus… all the staff were so helpful! Thanks again Bruce & Julie Meek

We have been staying at the Rembrandt for more than 10 years and we are finding it difficult to put into words just how disgusted we are at the total shambles it has now become. We Stayed for two nights at a cost of £426. We were asked to check in online which is not too much of an issue but then we were told we had to make a specific request to have our room serviced. We made it quite clear that at a cost of £426 we would naturally expect the room to be serviced. The receptionist told us to put the tab left in the room on the door to request this. We noticed the same tabs on many other doors. When we returned that evening, we noticed all the tabs, including ours, had been turned around to ‘Do not disturb’ and our room had not been serviced. We were near the end of a corridor on the 6th floor covered by a cctv camera so the argument ‘a guest must have done it’ does not stand up. We booked direct and received two vouchers for a complimentary drink. The waiter casually asked if we would like some snacks such as crisps or peanuts on the table and we said yes. As we left, he chased us to sign a tab for £1.69 for a single, miserable packet of crisps that we assumed, quite naturally that like other normal establishments these would be complementary. It may seem silly to complain about the £1.69 charge for the crisps but it is a matter of principle and this smacked of ‘sharp practice’. The set up at breakfast is simply ridiculous. It is quite usual for breakfast to be served as a buffet. It is not normal for guests to also be expected to sort out tea/coffee and toast! You must decide whether to let your beverage & toast go cold while you queue at the buffet or vice versa and the area around the toast & coffee is an absolute scrum unless you go very early. Meanwhile 3 waiting staff stood staring into space doing nothing except getting in the way of guests running around trying to organise their breakfast. Blaming all this on covid is insulting our intelligence. If, due to covid, you could only offer a reduced service then where are the reduced prices? The shining light at the Rembrandt is a gentleman called Pablo. He has been there for many years and a did everything in his power to make up for the awful service. He has always been a star but this time he went above and beyond. He sorted out our car parking, brough us clean towels, tried to fix the broken air conditioning unit even offered to clean our room late at night. He can often be seen whizzing about but always has time to listen and help. He is however only one person and he cannot ‘fix’ what is wrong here. So to conclude what exactly do you get for £426.00 You check in yourself. You are also advised to check out yourself. You make your own bed and tidy your room. You get your own breakfast. As the room is not serviced you must either ration your toiletries or bring your own. In short for your money you get very little more than at a youth hostel but if you go to reception, you will be entertained by the many different languages and accents of people complaining. Everyone seemed to be angry and fed up. We are not just surprised there are a few recent good reviews; we are astonished there are any! Believe me when you get back to your hotel room late at night after a very hectic day and begin to tidy up and make the bed the thought that you are paying £426 pounds for this ‘privilege’ is more than a little choaking. Of as you try to do battle with the breakfast crowd to get a coffee then return to the toaster to find another guest has taken your toast, then put more in, get pushed and shoved while you stand guard until it is done, return to find your coffee is cold then go and queue for the buffet is not comforting to know that you are paying hundreds of pounds while staff are paid to watch you struggle. When one books B&B at a 4-star hotel it is not just to have a roof over one’s head. A guest expects a certain level of comfort and service such as a leisurely breakfast and naturally assume they will not have to service their own room or even specifically request this. Let us be clear; when one pays for something and it is not supplied it is fraud.
