A few days into our stay here, we learned that the hotel is one of the oldest in the city, and we were very impressed with the decor and their conservation of its historical importance. The staff was amiable and super efficient. They were actively aware of patrons and even anticipated your needs. We loved the breakfast, and the attached bar was excellent. Loved that they provided plenty of sparkling water and other goodies as part of their mini fridge/snack stock in each room. We stayed here during the off-season, which was perfect for pricing, although it remained relatively busy with folks from all walks of life. The location was perfect for showing my parents around the neighborhood I used to live in as a study abroad student and had a view of my old dormitories from our room. There was a large population of students from different universities showing their families the area as well. Highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wishes to stay at a historically significant and quintessentially British boutique hotel.

This hotel was our first stop for mine and my husband’s honeymoon and it was fabulous! The hotel is beautiful and the service is top notch, truly. Where else are you asked if there were any improvements while checking out? We noted the Wi-Fi was a little slow but they said they’re already fixing it. We also arrived to the hotel around 10:30am after a grueling 9 hour trip over, and they had our room ready early almost instantly. I could’ve cried I was so happy. It’s also worth noting that I’m typically skeptical of older hotels because of cleanliness, and this one was absolutely spotless. I’d recommend The Gore to everyone I know!

Dear kaitosborn, Thank you for this most wonderful feedback on your recent stay with us here at The Gore for your honeymoon. The team and I are delighted you enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of our family run hotel. We are indeed currently upgrading the entire Wi-Fi, throughout the hotel to have excellent, high-speed coverage throughout. This should be completed by August at the latest. Please do let me know personally whenever you are planning to return, I would be delighted to assist you with whatever that might be. With warmest regards, J-J Pollak Hotel Manager

I want to say that staff working here is great in terms of serving their customers and making them feel at home. From minute you step in, they go out of their way to help you, the gentleman at door helping with our luggage has been very helpful so are cleaning staff. This is a 150-year hotel, and everything is functional during our stay. Another benefit is its location, 5 minutes walking to Hyde park and Kensington garden. One thing I'd suggest to management is internet service, it's very slow during day time, probably around 200kbps. During this digital age this probably needs to be upgraded.

Dear Max Y, Thank you for your glowing review and for staying at The Gore! The team and I are delighted that you enjoyed such a wonderful stay and that you appreciated our attentive and helpful service. The team work extremely hard to deliver exceptional service every day and to receive such fantastic comments from guests like yourself, makes it all worthwhile! Thank you also for the suggestion about the WiFi, which we are already working on and currently going through an upgrade plan. The wiring side of things has been completed and we are now just waiting for new hardware to arrive and be installed. With this upgrade there will be state-of-the-are, high speed coverage throughout the building and I am sure you will be able to benefit from this on your next stay. The team and I very much look forward to welcoming you back in the future. With the warmest regards, J-J Pollak Hotel Manager

The Gore is fantastic. The rooms were spacious and quiet, with comfortable beds and great showers. The staff was helpful, the breakfasts were delicious, and the library is gorgeous. The location is great, too, with access to the Underground, Hyde Park, pretty residential streets, and some great restaurants on Gloucester Road (we liked Memories of India and Da Mario). I hope to stay there again soon!

Staff really polite and helpful. The bed was very uncomfortable and the bathroom needs a makeover. Cracks in the sink and black mould in the bath seal. Very disappointing for the £300+ per night price tag

Dear cheryl734, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at The Gore and I am really pleased you found our team to be polite and helpful. I was genuinely sorry to hear about your disappointment regarding your experience with us. I am relatively new to the property and assessing all areas of the property that need to be improved and I can assure you that all your points shall be addressed. I would, however, note that the property is from 1892, with a lot of original features and character. This includes a lot of the bathroom-ware, which our guests generally love. My Housekeeper and I inspected your room following your comment about black mould, but could not find any example of this or mildew, however this could have been confused with some discolouration for a cleaning chemical, which has now been rectified. We do pride ourselves on our beautiful building and history but also on the wonderful service and experience we provide. We very much would like you to stay with us again and make your next visit memorable for all the right reasons. Thank you and warmest regards, J-J Pollak Hotel Manager

From the second I arrived, I felt like a VIP. Being greeted every time I entered the hotel was fantastic. While the room was small, it was very well appointed and comfortable. Only downfall was the size of the bathroom, it was a little tight. The location is right across the street from Hyde Park, down the street from The Royal Albert Hall and The V&A museum. Also within a 10 minute walk to the Gloucester Tube station and plenty of dining options.

Absolutely lovely welcome from the lovely lady on reception, should have got your name. It's also a fabulous entrance to the hotel. We had room 106. Lovely very clean room (no hairs visible), not the biggest room, but everything you need including robes and slippers, T&C, nice sized Samsung TV, fridge, safe, air con and a radiator. The mini bar is just so overpriced, £5 for a kitkat anyone? Bathroom had bath and rain forest shower over and unlike so many other hotels, lashings of hot water and the bath filled sooooo quickly. There are quality bathroom products from Penhaligons (Blenheim Bouquet). Food at the Hotel looks quite reasonably priced, but there was a note saying the dining room was not open for Lunch or Dinner. Now the downsides that makes this a 4.6/7 not a 5. Firstly in the bathroom the mirror is not big enough, not is there a magnifying mirror option. There were also three cracked tiles in the bathroom, not what you would expect from this hotel. There was only two milk with the T&C, although these were topped up after reference to reception. There is some wear and tear in the hotel, the only major bit we noticed was on the stairs. And the final gripe, I do not expect to have to book seats in the hotel bar!! It is clear the bar caters to the Royal Albert Hall crowd, which means that hotel guests cannot access the bar as and when. We were staying to see the Cirque du Soleil at the RAH, so really disappointed about the bar. We did get a drink in the bar, one other thing to note, not that many beers on offer, and nothing on tap, all bottles. I really do love this establishment, superb place to stay for the RAH and is still highly recommended, but just cannot give it a 5 due to the above gripes. I would also reiterate, superb staff!!

No hot water on the first night. Reported to reception and was attend to but not in time for us go out for the evening. When we did have hot water the the following day it took 20 mins to start running hot. No pressure in the shower, just a dribble down the pipe. Sink taps leaked over the counter. Toiletries were never replaced. Light bulbs not working and room very dim. Safe wasn’t working and need fixing before we could leave the room.m Breakfast is more expensive if you don’t book it upon arrival. Why ? Was told couldn’t sit at certain tables in the bar during the afternoon even though the bar was and remained empty so was pushed up a dark corner. When we checked out and explained we still had issues we were asked if we had been staying on the fifth floor indicating it’s a known problem. Terrible experience. We won’t be returning. Would get better service staying at the hostel next door.
