I have been using the Strand for over 10 years. So far the experience has been good, and any complaints I’ve had have been taken seriously. However, I was there a week ago and I needed to share my concern about the standards of service and the quality of the stay. There is no concierge at certain times, and during a stay earlier this year there was also no water, neither in the rooms nor elsewhere, and the vending machine was faulty!!! On this recent trip, the front desk was not picking calls and were dismissive of complaints. Misunderstandings around booking can and do happen, however, proper customer service would suggest that your reception staff should listen better and not have a “don’t care, not my fault” default. Thrice I had to complain about the room not being cleaned properly or serviced (no toilet paper or fresh towels etc.) I must admit the house keeping supervisor (Debbie?) was most helpful and friendly and efficient in her response. The service in the restaurant is really poor, with wrong orders being delivered and guests not being able to just enjoy a cup of tea on a side table after hours, as has been the case. I like your hotel for its proximity, but I’m concerned that good customer service is no longer on your list of priorities. Please prove me wrong.

Hotel's Favorite
I had read some of the negative reviews prior to staying and was a bit nervous, given we booked a non refundable option. My husband and I stayed there for our 7 year Wedding Anniversary and it did not disappoint. Upon arrival, the hotel was in a great location, looked amazing and all the staff were polite and helpful. We went to the room, which was a Deluxe King room and it was lovely - the staff had put up a 7 balloon and left us chocolates and card for our Anniversary(what an incredible touch) To top it off, the room was spacious, clean and had a full stocked mini bar, which was all included in the price and had wine, beer, popcorn, crisps, chocolate as well as still and sparkling water. The room also had a coffee machine and was well equipped with toiletries. They even offered room service!!! The bed was really comfortable, one of the best nights sleep i have had in a hotel! The TV faced the bed for easy watching in the morning and the check out wasn't until mid day which was nice. Would 100% recommend and revisit. Thank you so much to all the staff for a wonderful stay

Brilliant located hotel close to "everything": Restaurants, bars, sights, etc. The hotel is huge and labyrinthine, certainly not a place I want to find my way out of in the event of a fire! Rooms are classically decorated (in the good way), but they are a bit small and ours was very badly furnished: You (literally!) had to walk sideways to pass the gap between bed and closet, and a nocturnal visit to the toilet could end up with a pelvic fracture because of a misplaced table. The windows are very poorly soundproofed, so noise from traffic and city life is a part of the package. Breakfast is good and varied, but there are far too few seats in relation to the number of guests, so at the popular dining times, expect to queue for 5-15 minutes. Because of the size and the many guests, the service is very impersonal, except from the doormen, who are both funny and helpful.

Stayed two nights Friday and Saturday prior to the London marathon rang reception on Saturday afternoon to request a late checkout so that my husband could shower and change after the marathon prior to travelling home by train to Leeds. We were told that late checkout was unavailable as the hotel was full but we could store our luggage and my husband could shower in the gym. On our return to the hotel my husband asked if someone could let him into the gym an was informed by the manager that he could not use the gym as we had checked out had to settle for a hands and face wash in the gents toilet . My husband was too tired to argue this is really disappointing and in my opinion lousy customer service.Future marathon runners be aware

I had booked this place off online booking site on a whim to explore another area of London after a big trip to middle east I did. Basically a short stay. I was able to get to it via Piccadily line from LHR and Covent garden tube stop, a 5 min walk. Checked in no issues and was given a free pint at the local Maxwells on sight! Got to my room and it was small looking at first, but everything in the space was very good. The room was all redone recently, all modern. I had the best sleep there of all the hotels I stayed to tell truth over my 2 weeks , Egypt and luxury place in Dubai! The bed was a twin, but was comfortable, and pillows were fantastic for me! The bathroom was again small, but functional and all redone. The shower was very impressive, very powerful flow, best water flow indeed of any hotel I have ever stayed! I wished I could take this home with me! No noise issues with sleep, no closing doors from neighbours, no sound from other rooms, no street noise. Location is perfect in London near all you need, and the Covent garden tube stop you can access it all, including LHR in 1 hr at a cost of 1 pound! Breakfast was a buffett and not bad, only that the guy was limiting you on the sausage and pancakes for some reason, you can't get yourself. Also there was a strange alarm that set off out of blue one am and I had to leave my breakfast and all hotel people were horded into foyer. It ended after 30 min and I returned to my cold meal. Not a huge issue, but if were longer, or to continue that would be issue. Overall good stay and I look forward to go again in future if so.

We stayed at the Strand Palace for 9 nights. It was comfortable and reasonably priced. We ended up getting a small room for my wife and I, but it was clean, cozy and perfectly functional for our needs. We ate at Joe Allen's steak house and went to the Gin Palace - both were very good.

What can I say, everything is a positive. Easy check in, Ryan was very helpful and informative. Lovely reception and restaurant area. Plenty of staff about if you need anything. Room size was more than adequate (de-lux king). Two windows overlooking a courtyard but did not bother us as we were only in there to sleep. Extra large bed which was comfortable... best nights sleep I have had in ages. A bottle of fizz, balloon and card were there for my partners special birthday..Thank you. Breakfast was great, everything you could want. I read the reviews beforehand with guests moaning about it being busy at breakfast, yes it was busy but we didn't have to wait we were seated straightaway and came back with our food within minutes. Fantastic location, 15 mins to London Eye, 40 mins to St Pauls, 30 mins Buckingham palace loads of sights in between. Ate in the restaurant one evening. Make sure you are very hungry before ordering the club sandwich with fries as it was huge. Could not fault it (apart from the obnoxious man I had the unfortunate encouter with at breakfast one morning, but that is not the hotels fault, you will get them sort anywhere)!!! Definately go back there next time we go. Disliked · There was nothing we didn't like about the Strand Palace. We could not fault it. If you really want an answer.... lifts were a little busy in the morning, we had to wait 3 minutes for the lift instead of 1 minute !!!!

Arrived to find the room booked was not available so put in a small room with double not king bed. Tiny window so dark, no hairdryer. Queued for ages for a table for breakfast, had to ask twice for coffee and staff so miserable. Very expensive and certainly not good value for money.

Stayed in the strand palace for 3 nights with my husband. Location is OK, very close to Covent Garden and the lovely area of Charing Cross and Piccadily. Rooms are not to my taste, very old, not so clean, our window was dusty and I am not a picky girl. It is a big hotel, for me it felt like a busy train station. Did not try the breakfast.

When you enter the hotel it feels spacious and light, however once you go up to the bedroom floors the corridors are very dark and gloomy - shame they have been painted in such dark colours. I was checked in very quickly and the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The room I was given was pretty awful - no natural daylight, as the window had some sort of white plastic painted over it. I went to reception and said I could not stay in a room with no daylight, a very nice member of staff went upstairs with me to have a look at the room and immediately said he would try and get it changed. Luckily they found me another room, as I definitely could not have stayed in the original room. The lifts in the hotel are extremely slow and people had to wait for quite a long time sometimes. Breakfast was good with a good choice.
