So this was our first and probably last time of staying at the Mercure hotel. We had a warm welcome from Roberto on reception and having seen our room. We were disappointed to find that it was damp and musty and not at all suitable. We complained to reception, and one of the other gentleman on reception showed us a couple of options, one of which was an upgrade which we gladly accepted. However, despite this room being an upgrade, it was a huge disappointment. It was very dated, the beds weren’t the most comfortable And proximity to the main road meant it was a noisy location. On returning to the hotel after an afternoon and evening at the theatre, we were disappointed to find that the bar was closing despite it being only just about 10 pm. Breakfast the next morning was also a huge disappointment as the quality of the full English was absolutely appalling. It was embarrassing to see visitors from abroad, struggling to find something palatable to eat. Overall, people on the front desk were absolutely fine, thoroughly professional and inviting. It was just a shame that the quality of the rooms leave a lot to be desired and the breakfast really is completely unacceptable for the amount of money that you are paying to stay at this hotel. Would we stay here again? A resounding no.

We stayed here one night while travelling from South Wales to Belgium. We choose the location as it is close to St Pancras, a short walk or one stop on the underground from Russell Sq. The hotel would make an ideal base to tour London. Staff were excellent and just that right mix of professionalism and friendliness. Our room was a superior room on the 7th floor. This hotel in common with a lot of hotels in the centre of any big city does not have a view on the side we were but surely that's not the only reason to book or not book a city hotel. The room was pleasant and equipped with all the amenities you would expect. The bed was very comfortable. One big plus was sachets of hot chocolate! The bathroom was showing signs of wear and tear but was clean and the shower functioned well. One last comment for Accor ALL members, welcome drinks are available at reception and you can take these to the bar if you require a glass, the bar is very well stocked and the bar person was a delight.

There is no stretch of the imagination which could make this a four star hotel. From the dingy looking reception area onwards, it is three star at best. The staff at reception were very good and did their best, but in truth the reception environment was awful and did not have an air of permanence, and clearly meant to be occupied by only one member of staff. The lift to the upper floors was straight from the 1950s. The room was also way outdated, tiny even by London standards, and it had the worst bathroom we’ve ever experienced, but it was so bad I’ll enlarge on the below. (No pun intended!) one of the wardrobe doors was broken, and it was Al close to the room door that it bears the scars of the door handle hitting it. The air conditioning was probably a revelation - 60 years ago, and looms menacingly above your head as you lie on the bed, blowing straight down on you. The bathroom however was in a class of its own. At its widest point it was maybe three feet wide. The small shower cubicle had a half door and it was impossible to shower without flooding the floor. The toilet was placed against the shower and left a gap of about 13 inches to enter and exit the shower, which had to be done sideways. Sitting on the toilet your knees are brushing the wall opposite. See the attached photo. All in all a disaster, and luckily we were only there one night. I use Accor hotels a lot, and in particular Mercure. Never again in London.

Beautiful room that was very clean, lovely shower room facilities. The bed was so comfy and the staff were so lovely and kind to us and our sick son who was visiting from Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We are Accor members and have been for over 10 years, we booked this hotel as it was a Mercure and expected the kind of quality that Mercure usually have. Upon arrival the staff at front counter seemed quite disinterested to welcome us, we were not offered a welcome drink nor an upgrade despite being gold members, in fact when we asked about using our membership for breakfast as we did not book it originally we were told that the discount only applied to platinum members not gold in this hotel. It sounded strange. When we got to our room the bed was quite small and there was no space to store anything and the shower leaked. We could see no point in complaining as from the welcome we had received it was obvious that they had very little time for customers. All Accor hotels after our stay send a review email this did not. And even the bill was provided to us on paper and not via email like all the other Accor we have stayed. After London we went to Amsterdam and stayed at an Ibis the welcome and service we received there was 100 times better that the one we got in London.

Dear Grazia, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of. Sincerely, Magda

We were allocated room number 315 on arrival. Instantly i thought the room was very small, the wardrobe (exposed metal rail) was inadequate and the decor didn't reflect the images shown on the website. The room looked more like a room normally found in a hospital rather than a 4 star hotel in London. The bathroom was also very small, i grazed my elbow on the corner of the tiled walls whilst brushing my teeth and there was no room to place a towel near to the sink. The same applied to using the toilet, you would regularly bang your arms on the shower / walls when using the toilet. We were also unable to use the tea and coffee facilities because the surfaces / table top space was insufficient, this probably explains why the facilities were stuffed in a draw / cupboard. The iron was faulty, it leaked water when we tried to use it because the cover to the water compartment was broken / non-existent. Given all of the above we didn't want to complain and carried on with our stay in London. However, when we returned to the hotel ready for a good night's sleep, we were kept awake for the majority of the night due to the NOISE coming from the large mechanical extract units just outside our hotel window. On top of the terrible noise, when the sun started to rise, the room became too bright because of the inadequate window blinds which weren't blackout at all and therefore not fit for purpose. I went down to the hotel reception just after 7am on the Saturday morning to complain. I told reception that i wished to leave the hotel straightaway and demanded a full refund. I was instantly offered a better room which was gratefully received and i was told to email the General Manager with regards to the refund. The lack of sleep on the Friday night completely ruined Saturday for us, we were very tired during the day travelling around London. A good night's sleep should be the number one priority during any hotel stay and i feel we did not receive this in the slightest. I will be seeking a full refund.

Extremely comfortable bed in a soundproof room We received an upgrade due to our Accor membership even though we had used some points to purchase the room. Huge king size bed with beautiful quality linen. Our room faced Southampton Row, but we were not disturbed by passing traffic. The hotel was within walking distance of the Westend Theatre district.

Fantastic hotel and staff at this hotel. We arrived in a panic after our Eurostar was delayed and we had tickets for an afternoon theatre show. The staff allowed us to dump our bags and run before we even checked in properly. Buffet breakfast was great too! I ended up moving from a twin to a single room on my own for the last night (away from a snorer lol) and it had everything you would need as a solo traveller 😊 Fantastic location also for both tube stops and walking.

If not for the friendly and helpful front desk staff (particularly Adriana), the stay would have been extremely disappointing. Although room (looks) was clean, it was very dated. The carpeting was dull and worn feel to it and it feels it needs a major cleaning. In addition, the floor creaks when you walk anywhere in the room. The curtains/drapes also feel like it needs major cleaning or to replacement. They look like they have been there back in the 60's =:0) The bathroom was very tight and challenging for a plus size person needing to exercise one's morning constitution.
