Recently in London bookending a trip to Cornwall, we stayed at Number Sixteen both times. It is a fantastic gem, found in South Kensington, close to the tube. The hotel staff is extremely courteous and helpful in finding local eateries, routes, sights, anything a resident would require. The rooms are beautiful and beds will make you never want to get... After a visit to Kensington Palace on Sunday afternoon, we did a quick on-line search and found Hotel Sixteen, luckily they had a table for two in their sheltered and beautiful garden.? The service was great, the afternoon tea was great. And the price was great. It's tucked away in a side street, the hotel has great art and furniture.... More

I would definitely recommend this place for afternoon tea. Hidden gem! Beautiful garden! Very pleasant service and tasty selection! Loved hotel and restaurant design, understated luxury, everything is done with love and great taste of true boutique hotel. You just want to explore and explore it:)

I am so glad that I found this place in London! I pre-booked to come here for Afternoon Tea with my friend last week! The place was beautifully decorated and all the staff were very welcoming! Everything was clean, tidy, beautifully presented and nothing was too much trouble for the staff! We were seated in the dining room which was... More

Travelled to London with my daughter on a shopping mission - to buy a wedding dress. This was an ideal base very close to the tube station on a fairly quiet road. The exterior of the hotel is very elegant and unassuming and the inside is very comfortable and calm and relaxing with the usual 'Firmdale' style and luxury. The... More

Came here with my boyfriend for afternoon tea, I've been to quite a few different places for afternoon tea so have a good idea of what a decent one should deliver and this one certainly did! Paid £20PP - had a pot of tea each, some finger sandwiches, small savouries which would have been better if there had been 2... More

Found this charmed spot on-line whilst looking for a place for afternoon tea. Every element of our visit was faultless, from the attentive staff to the scrumptious tea. The garden looked lovely, and I look forward to a return visit when we can sit outside. We had the special Easter tea, but the others, including an all fruit tea, looked... More

We visited this hotel for afternoon tea. It is situated a short walk from South Kensington tube station and it is small and very welcoming. The décor of every room is simply gorgeous, with carefully chosen pieces of furniture and interesting art work; there is also a very well tended garden, which I understand can be chosen as a location... Some of the Number Sixteen rooms are minuscule, and, booking late over a holiday weekend, that's what I ended up with. If booking early enough to have the full room selection available, or if room size is not an issue, Number Sixteen offers a good (and, for a design property in central London, reasonably priced) option.

We stayed at Number Sixteen for 2 nights and were over the moon when we arrived. The hotel was better than what we had expected. It was small, personal and very beautiful. The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We ordered room service and received our order within a short time. We had coffee in the garden... More

Staying in South Kensington

Neighborhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Number Sixteen forms part of a row of gleaming white stucco mid Victorian townhouses. It originally opened in the 1980’s and instantly became popular with discerning travellers looking for an alternative to the larger Park Lane hotels. Now several years on, the hotel has a Firmdale point of view. Kit Kemp redesigned the hotel in her signature, fresh modern English style. ... more   less
