COMO The Halkin is a haven of luxury in the heart of London’s Belgravia with the shopping of Mayfair and Knightsbridge both within a 10-minute walk. With a discreet, efficient approach to service, everything about The Halkin is about elegant understatement and its intimate feel. With just 41 rooms and suites, The Halkin is a true boutique hotel. Bespoke Italian design is combined with subtle nuances of Oriental influence with wools, silks and linens in taupes and creams. Rooms are furnished with soft carpets and warm wood panelling, and boast some of the largest bathrooms in London. The hotel restaurant Ametsa with Arzak Instruction,is a unique collaboration between Elena Arzak – voted Veuve Clicquot World’s Best Female Chef in 2012 – along with her father Juan Mari Arzak, and Mikel Sorazu, Igor Zalakain and Xabier Gutierrez.Ametsa’s approach is rooted in the traditions of ‘New Basque Cuisine’, pairing the earthy flavours and techniques of Spain’s Basque region with modern, surprising twists featuring locally-sourced and organic produce from land and sea.

Belgravia
Home to the vast majority of embassies and diplomatic residences in London, sophisticated and upscale Belgravia also boasts a wealth of luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and some of the city’s most stroll worthy lanes. While the prices here are high, taking a leisurely stroll through the streets of picturesque and elegant white stucco houses is free. Hyde Park and the Buckingham Palace Gardens are only a stone's throw away to the north, and some of Europe’s best shopping is nearby as well.

Arriving at the front door was a treat with the Flowers at door and in Lobby. Checking in was easy and made us feel expected. She then walked us to our room and showed us the amenities. One felt as though an anticipated family member. All of the appointments were of high quality and staff was most welcoming. Room was comfortable although not large. Whenever we had a question - they had the answer. Belgravia is a quiet and elegant neighborhood. Breakfast was very nice; staff was very attentive. On my husband’s birthday our server brought a bottle of champagne for us all. We were a party of 5 and we stayed 5 days. Every day was elegant, spotless and staff was attentive. Look forward to staying again.

We love COMO and the Halkin is a lovely, quintessentially perfect representation of everything great about this family of hotels. Service is friendly and warm and never intrusive. Decor is understated but thoughtful. Food is great and balanced and as healthy as you’d like. Gym is small but well equipped. Hyde park just around the corner for lovely morning runs. There is construction right across, so light sleepers might be a bit weary. We were in town for our best friend’s civil ceremony and our own anniversary and couldn’t have picked a more relaxing and wonderful place to be based. It’s tiny (40rooms?) and, no surprise, everyone knows you by name. Thank you, Halkin team, for a perfect weekend. If forced to choose, the only maddening thing to mention is the shower curtain—maybe in a different room it’s irrelevant, but it was on Velcro and every time you move it, it falls down.

Afternoon tea was divine. The Basque menu was a welcome change to sandwiches and scones. An abundance of tea was continually served in record time; the best mint tea I’ve had in a long time. However, above all, the service was most excellent. Penny was delightful, knowledgeable and kind. She knew instinctively when to help and when to provide space. Penny made the day extra special with her lovely and kind nature.

Stayed 2 nights here past week , absolutely stunning ! We stayed at the corner suite , view to the garden so it was very quiet and we had a fantastic sleep. Design of the suite is simple luxury , not too much decorated, I liked it. The bathroom rather big. Staff is excellent , you feel you are in well-runned small, luxury hotel. The breakfast is very good , a-la-carte of course , very effiecient. You can choose the fresh and ripe fruits , they are listed up in the menu instead of just offering a fruit-plate with items I don't like , very good. You get 3-4 jams/honey portions, each one served with a spoon , I like such details. Porridge Incredible good made at your choice. What shall I say ? It's obvious , next time in London I don't need to check for other hotels , it will be the Halkin.

I originally booked to stay in a studio suite. When I arrived, it was perfectly fine but I felt that I wanted more space. The studio suites are a bit on the small side, although they are good value /a good size compared to other local 5* hotels (which typically have very small and very dated rooms). In London my favourite place to stay is the Southwark Suite in the ShangriLa Shard. I have struggled to find anywhere else which is as clean cut/sophisticated (as opposed to the old style typical of London where the rooms have gaudy wallpaper and bizarre furniture). The Southwark Suite wasn’t available during the weekend I was looking for a hotel, so I looked elsewhere. I was very disappointed by the rooms on offer (even the larger rooms/suites) at many hotels. The rooms at the Hilton, Intercontinental, Dorchester were universally small, over priced, dated or otherwise had something wrong with them. Unless you were willing to spend £5000 per night, it was hard to get a good, nice, sizeable room in London for my budget (I usually am happy to spend up to £800 per night). The Como looked like the hotel which was closest in style/aesthetic to the ShangriLa so I decided to give it a go. Although I originally booked a Studio Suite, I moved to a Belgravia Suite, and for the small price difference id definitely recommend it. It feels much more like a “Suite” (as the Studio Suites are, effectively, just large hotel rooms as the name suggests) and is spacious, well lit and has a large bathroom. The beds are very nice - nicest I’ve had in London. The service is very good. The staff are very helpful but not too servile (I find the staff at Grosvenor House/Dorchester can be a bit over the top which always makes me uncomfortable). When I moved rooms I really noticed the service. On my first night in the studio suite I had bought two bottles of coke and put them in my fridge. I forgot about them, but when the staff moved all my things to the Belgravia Suite , they also moved the two bottles (sounds silly, but it’s small things / attention to detail like that which make a service feel 5*). The products in the bathrooms are very good. The hotel has a selection of wellness foods and drinks, including juices and smoothies. The room service food was better than I have had in London. I’ll definitely return and have added it to my list of places I can stay (having not enjoyed the Corinthia, Atheneum, Dorchester/Grosvenor). Modern stylish spacious accommodation. The only potential bad point was that the air con was a bit weak for my liking (the controls just go from “warmer” to “colder” on the highest setting I was still a bit hot (the weekend I stayed was 32 degrees Celsius). That being said, I am very sensitive to hot/cold (in the ShangriLa I always have it blasted on 16 degrees) so most people may not notice or mind.
