Over the last few months our team have been working hard to prepare for our guests’ return. We’ve implemented a range of new measures to look after your well-being, but one thing remains a constant – the warmth of our Savoy welcome. The Savoy is the only luxury hotel on the River Thames. The ballet, opera, and theatre of vibrant Covent Garden are just steps away, with the City, world-renowned museums and galleries, and the designer shopping of Knightsbridge and Mayfair within easy reach. The Savoy has been woven into the fabric of London for almost 130 years, with exceptional service and memorable experiences at the heart of everything.

Hotel's Favorite
We took my mum to celebrate her birthday for a festive afternoon high tea at the Thames Foyer, Savoy. It was a terrific experience, the amused bouche was out of this world. The array of delicate exotic sandwiches were superb including the charcoal bread - very unusual. You could tell everything was freshly prepared to order. But what topped that was the bountiful supply of succulent cakes and scones. The scones were cooked to perfection as we cut through them there was no crumbling, and they were warm and moist. We loved the whole experience, there as a pianist playing Christmas songs on the piano underneath an indoor grandstand draped in a beautiful festive flora display and twinkling lights. The pianist played as a special request the 'Phantom of the opera' for mum. As it was my mum's birthday she played happy birthday when our hostess presented a surprise birthday cake and guests and staff all clapped. After being in lockdown this made it a lovely treat for Mum. My other half thought the atmosphere was absolutely amazing and was how warm and welcoming all the staff were. Nothing was too much trouble including endless supply and topping up of our tea - we won't need any more tea for a few days. Clara was our hostess, she represented the Savoy extremely well and professionally. She was attentive, kind and very engaging. We could have talked to her for ages. Her knowledge regarding all the different cakes and sandwiches was excellent and she was very lyrical in describing in perfect detail the mouthwatering flavours and composition of our afternoon tea. This made it hard to choose what to have first. Clara was the perfect ambassador for the Savoy and really made our time there perfect. Other Savoy colleagues were great too and very engaging. Such as good time did we have, we struggled to drag my Mum away and not have one more cup of tea - she's such a Misses Doyle! We will be back for sure....

Dear Lee S, Thank you for choosing The Savoy to celebrate your mum's special birthday. It has been my pleasure to read out your wonderful review of afternoon tea to the team this morning. Clara was overwhelmed by your amazing feedback; we are very proud to have her on the team. Your kind appreciation of the service and especially the tasty sandwiches and cake delights has wowed us all. Most importantly, your mum will cherish these happy memories with her family. Thank you again for such a great review and we look forward to having you all back with us again in the future. With best wishes, Franck Arnold, Managing Director

Quick note to say this is coming in very late (I actually stayed in late November 2019, March 2020 was the earliest I could select) which I should really apologise for, because the team deserves a shout out for how brilliant they were. Sorry this has taken so long! In brief, I booked the Savoy for a surprise proposal, as it had views of the jubilee bridge where my fiancé and I used to go when we were first dating, and is right in the heart of her favourite part of the city. What was so special is how keen the staff were - especially Flavia Dupal (and also Alice Goodsell via email) - to go along with the plan. It involved them quite a bit: my partner is a make up artist and I’d got someone to book her for ‘work’ there, in order for me to surprise her in the room, and so the Savoy team had to be aware that she would be arriving at a certain time, call me to give the heads up when she’d arrived, deliver a package from her friend containing overnight things, *and* remember that she was expecting to visit a room booked under a different name to the actual booking, which was mine. Flavia and co managed all of this, and also upgraded us to a beautiful suite, added extra flowers and petals to what I’d ordered, and even offered to video my partner arriving at the room for a record of the surprise (I said no as she’s shy and also extremely sharp, so might have noticed, but did really appreciate the offer!) Everything else was excellent - lovely full English served in the room the next morning, very helpful and friendly staff at all the other occasions - but I just wanted to mention Flavia and Alice especially as they were so wonderful along the way. We’re a young-ish couple and the Savoy is a tad out of the budget for regular stays, but we’ll absolutely be back whenever we can, hopefully for anniversaries in the future! Thank you again to the team! Hopefully you’re still working there so this praise filters back to you. So sorry this took so long to write up - purely me being terrible at remembering/procrastinating - but do know that we have wonderful memories from our stay that will stay with us for a lifetime.

The hotel was lovely, great lobby area and great pool. But I'm writing this review because of the wonderful customer service Mirela gave us upon arriving at the hotel. Me and my girlfriend were treated immediately and Mirela had a wonderful smile and care for to customize out stay as much as possible. She truly represents a 5-start hotel!

London without the Savoy being open just does not feel right. The legendary hotel has closed its doors because of Covid concerns for the first month of 2021 but plans to reopen in February, hopefully in time for Valentine’s Day. I have long been a fan of this London hotel, making my way there as soon as possible on arrival in London, when I visit, as well as having being something of a regular when I lived in this great city in the mid 1980s, or did longer research trips to England in the 1990s. The Savoy impresses from the moment one arrives by cab or foot with its entrance, which has a steady stream of taxis coming in and out to drop off or pick up customers. The picture included with this review shows the three marriages noted in my title— the unmistakable Savoy sign, the well-known slice of central London and the famous London black cab. The doormen, who look after the gateway to this gracious hotel are as gracious as the establishment, and happy to point you in the right direction for the facility at the hotel you wish to visit. On my last visit, I made my way to the American Bar for its White Lady, for which it is well-known across the world. The combination of gin, egg whites and liqueur is heavenly. And: The service is impeccable. Eats are also available in the bar area. The Savoy Grill is another place at the hotel to feed one desire for good food and drink, with many options offered. I like it for many culinary reasons, but I especially like getting a table which overlooks the hotel’s entrance, so I can watch the comings and goings; the dropping off and picking up — and hear their purring sound — with a slight touch of clanking here and there — that black cabs make, which is like nothing else. With this affection for the Savoy, its grand entrance and London black cabs, I include the picture I took on a visit to capture this great London scene, indeed one of London’s iconic images.
