Travelers' Choice
British craftsmanship, refined luxury and an Art Deco spirit collide at this prestigious five-star hotel in the heart of London. Occupying a prime Mayfair position, the West End, designer-lined Bond Street and Buckingham Palace are all just a short meander away. The Athenaeum itself exudes contemporary charm. Spacious rooms and suites cater to all of life’s luxuries, with views over verdant Green Park or character-filled Mayfair. Residences – the hotel’s luxurious serviced apartments – are found inside the adjoining Victorian red-brick buildings. These polished spaces offer a private entrance, separate bedroom and living areas, 24-hour in-room dining, plus full access to the hotel’s facilities. Dining comes courtesy of the hotel’s restaurant, 116 at The Athenaeum, with menus championing the very best British produce. The royally-inspired afternoon tea has become something of a London tradition, served with artisan tea, picture-perfect pastries and an array of sweet and savoury treats. Across the lobby, The Bar at The Athenaeum is a tranquil hideaway, promising cocktails created by an award-winning barman and more than 100 rare and intriguing whiskies. Sumptuous seating areas offer an insider’s look at The Athenaeum’s Living Wall – a vertical garden that covers an entire exterior wall of the hotel, from ground level right through to the top floor. Elsewhere in the hotel, the high-spec gym is accessible 24/7, while the spa has an inviting hot tub and an enticing menu of REN treatments. Guests at The Athenaeum can also gain exclusive access to The View when booking direct – an enviable London spot from which to enjoy a complimentary drink and nibbles in the evening.

One lift was under maintenance for 5 days. Very stingy on coplientary water. Poor service and very slow. Stay away from Mina in reception as offers the worst service and never helpful. Refused tk give us late checkout and always replies with no to any request.

We had a perfect 4 days feeling most comfortable while also being so close to many of the activities and restaurants of central London. Cannot say enough to compliment the entire staff for courtesy and professionalism- to include the doorman, front desk, housekeeping, and restaurant. Wonderful stay!

Ideal location, warm staff and excellent accommodations. A London treasure that won’t disappoint. You can easily walk to Knightsbridge and the shopping around Harrods, stroll to Buckingham Palace or explore Piccadilly. We were there the day Queen Elizabeth passed away and had been at the Palace in the morning. Later, learning of her passing, we walked back over in the evening to join the crowd observing her passing.

Although we arrived on a Sunday and the streets were closed due to a cultural event, when we did final arrive and check-in the hotel staff was very empathetic to the circumstance of our late arrival and offered us a complimentary glass of wine and truffles...nice surprise sent to our room minutes after check-in. Great staff, great service, extremely well organized, polite and very helpful!

The staff is nice at this Hotel but if you want/are accustomed to real five star experiences this is not it. This hotel is more on par with 3 star hotels, and is the bare minimum if you want somewhere decent to stay. - No turn down service - very confused and disappointed as I thought five star hotels are required to have turn down. -One elevator was broken for days, so only one was working and it was slow - concierge often didn’t answer the phone, so had to call many times to get an answer - room was quite small and they never stocked the mini fridge, I had to beg for drinks… and if the answer is “because of covid” I don’t think that answer is valid at this point. - the towel rack heater was never turned on during my nine night stay. - small detail, but the slippers were really bad, disposable flimsy slippers. - breakfast is mediocre, but dinner was good And room service was fast and consistent - the room itself was nice though - bathroom was pretty small but nice because it’s marble Overall not a bad stay but not what I’d expect from a five star hotel

We stayed for one night. We received such a warm welcome which really sets your stay up. All the staff seemed to genuinely care that we had a pleasant stay. We stayed in a double deluxe room, a complimentary upgrade. The room was a little small but very nice, with great amenities. I loved that they gave you plenty of water in your fridge rather than the standard small bottle. The bed was so comfortable and we slept well. The room and bathroom were very clean. Breakfast was good, staff again very pleasant, service quick and the food good quality. It could have done with being a tad hotter, but overall we did enjoy it. Another great thing is the late checkout time, 12 noon, so nice not to feel under pressure. The location is really second to none, right opposite Green park, five minute walk to the palace, easy walking distance to Leicester square, the west end and Covent Garden. We would highly recommend this hotel and would stay here again.

The Athenaeum is superbly located in the centre of London. This said, the property is in dire need of a makeover and upgrade. The rooms are nicely appointed but the bathrooms are very much stuck in the 1980's -- very small wash basin with a leaky faucet, a shower in the tub, poor ventilation, and the very size of the space (two people cannot comfortably use the bathroom simultaneously) are all big negatives. Overall, the hotel feels tired, with the hallways and public spaces just on the right side of run-down. The hotel does have decent wifi, but this bit of modernism cannot mask the need for the property to perk up.

The Athenaeum is an exceptional 5-star boutique venue that not only offers excellence in venue location, standards and luxury, but also has a climate that offers calm space and a wrap-around of care. I will choose here as a first option now as a business leader and female. It's hard to find the right climate, but the Athenaeum has nailed it.
