Rooms
Basic
Reviews reveal mixed opinions about the rooms, with complaints of issues such as maintenance problems, outdated decor, and noise. However, some guests appreciated the size, comfort, and cleanliness of the rooms.
- smli813Aug 2023 • 3 contributions...We booked a junior suite and paid a fair price for it. When we got to the room the size was good but we realised the sofa bed hadn't been made up so we had to call down to get someone to come to do this as I was travelling with my daughter after trying to phone down to reception 6 times over the space of an hour someone finally answered and took another hour to come... But the worst was the doors banging all night constantly... The view was of dirty extractor fans and the window in our room had been previously opened and wouldn't shut so as there was a ladder outside I was concerned someone can just come in... Air con was in bedroom and lounge area but they both worked with one control so I was hot and daughter was cold so we both had to compromise...
- Mick BAug 2023 • 1 contribution...Unfortunately the stay was disappointing due a issue concerning the room allocated to us and lack of management action. Advertised as ‘ some extra space with our delux king room, smart, modern and extra comfort with king bed’ it was very disappointing that the room was rather small at the back of the building, view from the window was a brick wall and the bed was 2 single beds pushed together!!!... I explained in a polite and civilised manner that we felt that the room was not as advertised and what we paid for... (Maybe I should of stamped my feet and loudly demanded a change of room, but as I explained to the manager that is not my style) Manager informed us that she will contact the area/senior manager to relay our dissatisfaction and to resolve the issue... Needless to say, no contact was made to us throughout our 2 nights there which is simply bad manners and lack of consideration to paying guests... Room was clean, Breakfast was good and the young man in the bar was very pleasant and polite...
- Victoribskdkc dAug 2023 • 7 contributionsI recently stayed at Thistle Holborn... The rooms were spotless and well-maintained, providing a tranquil environment to relax in... Overall, this hotel's great customer service, clean rooms, and tasty breakfast made my stay truly enjoyable...
- Bazza76Jul 2023 • 407 contributionsHotel staff (maintenance and front desk) entered our room without warning at 8am on a Sunday morning while we were jet-lagged and enjoying a lie in... It appeared they believed we were smoking in the room and wanted to catch us in the act - neither of us smokes...
- Kendall MJul 2023 • 8 contributionsOur stay at this hotel was just disappointment after disappointment. We first were told our room wouldn’t be ready on time after a long day of travelling... The room we were given required us to go up stairs, down a hallway DOWN a different staircase and along another call... We got to our room to find a cracked ceiling, no mini fridge and hair in the drains... The sheets were stained and the room was tiny... And to top it off, a cleaner walked into the room while I was changing without knocking...
- Sarah AJun 2023 • 1 contributionUnfortunately I was highly disappointed with my stay. The room was exceptionally small for two people sharing, dark and dingy... If you are sharing a twin room I would not recommend this hotel...
- Dixie SMay 2023 • 101 contributions...The rooms are nice, but there is a lot of road noise if your room is near the road. If you want a quiet room, you will need to request a room that is not on the rood...
- Kirsty CMar 2023 • 7 contributions...My daughters uses a wheelchair, I found no wheelchair access to the hotel but the staff more than happy to help lift her up (this was my fault for not reading) but equally the hotel provides accessible rooms so I just assumed... I arrived around 11.30am just to drop luggage off so we could carry on the day but was amazed that we offered to check in there and then so we could take everything up to our room... The room was very clean and water was provided along with tea/coffee making facilities... I booked a standard double the room and bathroom were spacious with plenty of towels and storage space... My only complaint was that the room looked quite dated to the photos on the website and could do with some TLC but this didn’t bother me as long as I got a good night sleep, which I did!... I booked breakfast which was additional charge to room stay but my daughter could eat for free... I asked reception if I could possibly stay in room for an extra hour due to change in travel time and they did this FOC...
- Paul KMar 2023 • 13 contributions...The bad: our room was generally good, but there was a bit of a blockage in the shower and sink drainage system, and the area around the shower was a tiny bit grubby (nothing major, but needed some attention)...
- A Northern SoulFeb 2023 • 60 contributions...My room could of done with a bit of updating and it also had the most squeakiest of floors ever, so felt sorry for those on the floor below as every step taken ensured a loud squeak...
- Christian JJan 2023 • 4 contributionsRoom temperature was set at 28oC so boiling hot and this was because the bathroom was freezing cold as only single glazed glass... The hotel solution was to give me access to another room that had already had a guest and not been cleaned... They said they’d need to check the room despite the fact that another member of staff had already been to check and let me into the other room... Absolutely shocking for £150 a night room!...
- LeeJan 2023 • 635 contributions...I had booked a single room through our corporate booking system which was small, as expected but perfectly fine for my needs and well equipped including air conditioning system which came in handy as the size of the room meant it was really hot at certain times... The room was situated on the first floor and was very quiet with very little noise from outside...
- Kelsey RJan 2023 • 2 contributions...Raul was very accommodating- there was a mix up with the room and on one of the busiest nights he was still able to rectify it. Breakfast left a little to be desired but the room was everything I needed...
- AlesuizaDec 2022 • 8 contributions...In the room you get 2 bottles of water (still and sparkling) per day and a kettle with tea & coffee, sugar and cream portions on choice. It was very quiet in the room, no noise heard... Narrow hallways lead to the rooms, several doors and carpets minimize noises... As it was Winter, I can tell the room was well heated... I recommend this place and would book this hotel again...
- Caroline HopleyDec 2022 • 24 contributionsI stayed one night in mid-December 2022 in a twin bed room. This hotel is a perfect loction for Covent Garden, West End theatres, Shaftesbury Avenue, Holborn....you've got a less than 10 minute walk to Covent Garden and the Royal Opera House, and from there, you can hit all the key theatreland areas... The room wasn't huge, but big enough for a 1-5 night stay - after all, you're really not spending much time in the room if you're sightseeing... The fact they have a luggage storage room is brilliant, and it's free too...
- NadjaDec 2022 • 4 contributions...And in case the problem couldn't be fixed, they would book us another hotel... They booked us to the Hard Rock Hotel (which was a lot more expensive) without additional costs... They also informed the hotel about our arrival and everything went smooth...
- Christina LDec 2022 • 8 contributions...However the rooms need renovation, there are only one blanket to share, and our overview is that there is room for improvement for both cleaning and making sure things are working in the rooms...
- GoJSLLOct 2022 • 3 contributions...The room looked nice and was clean but the airco/heating ruined the entire experience... It was cold but the airco was even noisier when turned on and wouldn't heat the room...
- TracieKnitsOct 2022 • 7268 contributions...Unfortunately our room was very dated with an uncomfortable old mattress, ancient drafty windows, and worn old fixtures. The staff lovingly cares for the room and cleans it as best they can but you can’t clean away deterioration and age... I’ll come back if you refurbish the bedrooms because otherwise it’s a great property...
- hrhigginsSep 2022 • 14 contributions...Room was up-to-date and spotless with nice touches such as kettle, ironing board/iron, etc... Centrally located, it is the perfect place to stay...

Value
Overpriced
Travelers have mixed opinions on value, with some finding the hotel cost-effective and others saying it's overpriced considering the quality.
- Mick BAug 2023 • 1 contribution...I explained in a polite and civilised manner that we felt that the room was not as advertised and what we paid for... Needless to say, no contact was made to us throughout our 2 nights there which is simply bad manners and lack of consideration to paying guests... Needless to say we will not be staying at a thistle hotel again...
- smli813Aug 2023 • 3 contributionsMy experience at this hotel I am afraid wasn't good. We booked a junior suite and paid a fair price for it... I was very disappointed and won't be returning even when leaving the man behind the desk was in such a rush to check us out he didn't even ask how the stay was so having to write here instead ...
- Gil ChestertonAug 2023 • 1194 contributions...Great stay for the price and did what it said on the tin, will definitely use again...
- Wayne CJul 2023 • 1 contribution...Food was out of this world best meal we have ever had well worth the price...
- Kendall MJul 2023 • 8 contributionsOur stay at this hotel was just disappointment after disappointment... Very substandard for the price, especially considering it’s supposed to be a 4 star hotel...
- Sarah AJun 2023 • 1 contributionUnfortunately I was highly disappointed with my stay... Breakfast was purchased at an additional cost, very limited choice of food, dirty tables and a hostess who seemed bored... If you are sharing a twin room I would not recommend this hotel...
- A KJun 2023 • 3 contributions...A great value for the money - would absolutely stay again - we made the perfect choice for convenient location...
- Ianaitch65Jun 2023 • 5 contributions...We stayed 2 nights, quite expensive for a small room which was crying out for upgrade and in desperate need of a comfortable mattress...
- annesattivaApr 2023 • 3 contributionsFor a 4 stars hotel, the balance price / quality is not good... Some of the employees at the reception are not very friendly, the ones at the restaurant are much more welcoming Breakfast buffet is not of high quality, avoid it if you like fine food...
- MissMaryTravelingFairyApr 2023 • 336 contributions...Unfortunately, our last interaction while checking out sort of sealed our decision to not return to the Thistle or recommend it. The staff working the desk insisted we had breakfast twice instead of once, so we needed to settle up...
- kimbalee007Apr 2023 • 6 contributionsThe location is fantastic however for the price paid, the beds need updating...
- A Northern SoulFeb 2023 • 60 contributionsJust stayed one night here and I was a little disappointed to be honest...
- norickFeb 2023 • 3 contributions...I can recommend that hotel to everyone, also when it costs a bit more... thanks thistle holborn hotel...
- Chris HJan 2023 • 59 contributions...1) bookings team - are abysmal 2) food is great and good value 3) on night events team did their best but clearly this is an issue that happens oftern...
- Christian JJan 2023 • 4 contributions...Absolutely shocking for £150 a night room!...
- NadjaDec 2022 • 4 contributions...That's why we decided to change hotel. They booked us to the Hard Rock Hotel (which was a lot more expensive) without additional costs...
- Bob TNov 2022I regularly write reviews on restaurants in London and initially the outside of the Thistle in Bloomsbury gives a welcoming and charming quaint aura… sadly the restaurant was the worst dining experience I have had in 49 years of dining in London... If I was giving a five star rating this restaurant would be hard pushed to get a single star... My advice when looking at the charming exterior and thinking should I try out the restaurant is walk on past there are far better places to dine nearby...
- PaolisTXOct 2022 • 62 contributions...For the price we paid for our entire stay (10 Days) you would have thought they would have accommodated a simple ask. Ended up purchasing our daily water intake at the local grocery store...
- GoJSLLOct 2022 • 3 contributions...For over £300 for one night, it shouldn't take too long before they can afford a new airco...
- eli0r34Sep 2022 • 2 contributions...very good check in to the room , and due to late flight the allowed to stay longer in the room with charge. Clean rooms, very good beakfast,...

Service
Inconsistent
Travelers appreciated the friendly and professional service at the hotel, but some expressed dissatisfaction with occasional mishaps and inattentiveness.
- Mr and Mrs BoydAug 2023 • 6 contributions...We arrived a bit before 3pm check in , hoping the room would be ready , it wasn’t so we waited in the bar area . We tried to check in at 3.15 and agin at 3.30 but our room still wasn’t ready ... We eventually got checked in at 4.25 pm... By this time we were very inconvenienced and stressed as we had reservations at 5.00 pm at a rooftop restaurant ...
- Bazza76Jul 2023 • 407 contributionsHotel staff (maintenance and front desk) entered our room without warning at 8am on a Sunday morning while we were jet-lagged and enjoying a lie in... Whatever apology was offered was inadequate, and I would've appreciated hearing from the hotel again later that day to apologise and provide an explanation...
- JJRGJul 2023 • 4 contributions...My partner proceeded to enter in order to confirm our reservations. However, the individual at the reception directed her to exit and use the adjacent door... The sign clearly stated: "Press here and someone will come to assist you."... I decided to enter and elucidate matters with the person who had received my partner... One wonders why they would not remove the sign if the service wasn't to be rendered?... The staff gazed upon our suitcases, seemingly waiting for us to handle them... In a general sense, the staff display remarkable politeness and put in earnest efforts to provide assistance...
- Kendall MJul 2023 • 8 contributions...We first were told our room wouldn’t be ready on time after a long day of travelling... There was a vacuum/hoover left in front of our door for the majority of our stay... And to top it off, a cleaner walked into the room while I was changing without knocking...
- Wayne CJul 2023 • 1 contributionGot here yesterday, check in was quick n easy told they upgraded us for free (nice surprise) loads of shops, restaurants and the museum... Staff are friendly, polite and welcoming made us feel at home and relaxed Restaurant was quiet but amazing and the music was perfect was just right in volume... Rooms amazing, clean and tidy plus the free mini bar was a nice touch...
- Sarah AJun 2023 • 1 contribution...Breakfast was purchased at an additional cost, very limited choice of food, dirty tables and a hostess who seemed bored...
- Louise PJun 2023 • 1 contribution...We arrived at the hotel a little earlier than the check in time so just expected to leave our bags at the hotel and go off exploring and come back later to check in however our room was already available to check in AND we had an upgrade to a junior suite... The staff were really friendly and helpful and at breakfast the staff took care of my food intolerance needs... I thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the capital...
- TartanTeddyBearJun 2023 • 2396 contributionsQuick and efficient check in and having contact the hotel beforehand to ask for a double and twin rooms they carried through on their promise... Bottled water was provided daily for our 3 night stay... We had also booked afternoon tea at the hotel but due our cancelled flight we had to reschedule... Maurizio was superb and accommodating and a gentleman when we finally met face to face... Afternoon tea with sparkling wine was excellent... The hotel is a less than 10 mins walk to Holborn tube station and not much firth to Tottenham Court Road and then onto Oxford Street... Alos 10 min was to Covent Garden and 15 mins to Leicester Square...
- annesattivaApr 2023 • 3 contributions...Some of the employees at the reception are not very friendly, the ones at the restaurant are much more welcoming Breakfast buffet is not of high quality, avoid it if you like fine food...
- MissMaryTravelingFairyApr 2023 • 336 contributions...When we arrived on day 1 to check-in our luggage, we were told we didn't have a reservation, which was extremely distressing... At one point our safe malfunctioned and maintenance was sent to help... I have to brag on that gentleman's kindness and dedication to solving this issue!... He was one of the nicest employees we encountered!... Speaking of employees, we also appreciated the gentleman who worked in the bar area (Maurice?... The staff working the desk insisted we had breakfast twice instead of once, so we needed to settle up... My husband explained that this wasn't accurate several times, but the employee kept saying, "it says here you did...
- Paul KMar 2023 • 13 contributions...We'd been advised in advance that the kitchen wouldn't be open, but when we arrived we were told that it had been reopened early. Service from the staff in the restaurant was excellent and couldn't be faulted... As has been our experience with this hotel, the staff in general are exceptional and can't do enough to help you from start to finish... I was particularly impressed that the lady behind the desk on the Sunday morning managed to hold her nerve and apologise profusely to the large man who was whingeing aggressively about something regarding keycards that was clearly out of her control but, regardless, seemed to want her to fix retrospectively...
- Suzy K QMar 2023 • 2 contributionsReally lovely hotel, great price and friendly welcoming staff. Andy on the front guest was such a nice person to arrive to - he worked hard to make guests feel at home... Would definitely come again and recommend to others...
- Kirsty CMar 2023 • 7 contributions...My daughters uses a wheelchair, I found no wheelchair access to the hotel but the staff more than happy to help lift her up (this was my fault for not reading) but equally the hotel provides accessible rooms so I just assumed. This wasn’t a problem as the issue was resolved by helpful staff... I arrived around 11.30am just to drop luggage off so we could carry on the day but was amazed that we offered to check in there and then so we could take everything up to our room... This definitely helped and how thoughtful The staff were to do this... The room was very clean and water was provided along with tea/coffee making facilities... I booked a standard double the room and bathroom were spacious with plenty of towels and storage space... I booked breakfast which was additional charge to room stay but my daughter could eat for free... There was a Great selection of unlimited continental, cooked breakfast and beverages... I asked reception if I could possibly stay in room for an extra hour due to change in travel time and they did this FOC... Was helped again with leaving with the wheelchair and luggage...
- LeeJan 2023 • 635 contributions...Breakfast is a buffet service consisting of hot and cold options and the food/service was ok... The food was ok but in terms of service, some starters came out after main meals and it wasn’t particularly busy whilst we were there... I had booked a single room through our corporate booking system which was small, as expected but perfectly fine for my needs and well equipped including air conditioning system which came in handy as the size of the room meant it was really hot at certain times... The bathroom was small too but in proportion to the size of the room and shower was nice and hot with plenty of pressure... All of the staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful... I would recommend this hotel and certainly will consider staying again...
- AlesuizaDec 2022 • 8 contributions...Bus stop in front of the house and across the street. Nearest Metro stations at approx... In the room you get 2 bottles of water (still and sparkling) per day and a kettle with tea & coffee, sugar and cream portions on choice... It was very quiet in the room, no noise heard... Also the housekeeping staff was very quiet... I did not take the breakfast but my mom did and she said it was good... I recommend this place and would book this hotel again...
- NadjaDec 2022 • 4 contributionsWe booked the hotel for one night and when we wanted to check in, the manager informed us that they had a problem with the gas and had to evacuate the building for safety reasons. They said we can store our lugagge and come back in the evening if we wanted to... And in case the problem couldn't be fixed, they would book us another hotel... When we came back later in the evening, they said the gas problem was fixed, but they don't have hot water... They booked us to the Hard Rock Hotel (which was a lot more expensive) without additional costs... They also informed the hotel about our arrival and everything went smooth... Despite the problems in the beginning, the hotel is rated as very good because they helped us immediately and made the best out of the situation...
- Freedom400777Nov 2022 • 2 contributions...On arrival we were disappointed, because we came early and check in time was much much later and it was not flexible. So we had to wonder around the city even though exhausted Short in staffing, the receptionist had to leave her post to help us with the bags Room and facilities were good... Very good location and friendly staff...
- Anne TOct 2022 • 1 contribution...Every member of staff were amazing especially Rafael on the desk. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and was brilliant with my granddaughter making her feel really special... Thank you again Rafael and team, you were all fantastic...
- TracieKnitsOct 2022 • 7268 contributionsStaff are awesome- can’t do enough for you, especially Raul... The staff lovingly cares for the room and cleans it as best they can but you can’t clean away deterioration and age...
- hrhigginsSep 2022 • 14 contributions...Elegant hotel and very clean with friendly, helpful staff. Room was up-to-date and spotless with nice touches such as kettle, ironing board/iron, etc... I had made an error in my booking and the staff went over, above and beyond to kindly to accommodate me - they were fantastic... Every staff interaction was professional and kind...

Travelers generally appreciate the hotel's amenities, noting the clean and comfortable rooms, good food, and convenient location. Some issues were mentioned like unreliable wifi and occasional lack of hot water.
- Connor WSep 2023 • 1 contribution...Good hotel, the bath water could be a little hotter for those wanting to bathe or be bathed. Some bubble bath would not go amiss, had to make the best of it with a shower gel and shampoo...
- smli813Aug 2023 • 3 contributions...We booked a junior suite and paid a fair price for it... Lamps were very close to pillows so you hit your head when getting up if you forget they are there... Air con was in bedroom and lounge area but they both worked with one control so I was hot and daughter was cold so we both had to compromise...
- Mick BAug 2023 • 1 contribution...Advertised as ‘ some extra space with our delux king room, smart, modern and extra comfort with king bed’ it was very disappointing that the room was rather small at the back of the building, view from the window was a brick wall and the bed was 2 single beds pushed together!!!... Room was clean, Breakfast was good and the young man in the bar was very pleasant and polite...
- JJRGJul 2023 • 4 contributions...The sign clearly stated: "Press here and someone will come to assist you."... This establishment likely belongs to a bygone era when opulence flowed abundantly...
After reading the reviews I was worried but man was I wrong to be worried the place is beautiful and so is the bar n restaurant I think it down to personal preference what you think of this place but we will be sad to leave here on Saturday 8/7...
- Louise PJun 2023 • 1 contribution...A friend recommended the Thistle Holborn. We arrived at the hotel a little earlier than the check in time so just expected to leave our bags at the hotel and go off exploring and come back later to check in however our room was already available to check in AND we had an upgrade to a junior suite... This was perfect for myself and my nephew as he had his own bed and space in the living room area whilst I had a lovely big bedroom with a big walk in dressing area... The bathroom was nice and large and as the weather was almost 30 degrees each day we both missed the hotel air con when we got home!... The hotel is really central and we walked everywhere... The hotel is also a close walk to restaurants, bars and cafes... The hotel also has a small bar area... The staff were really friendly and helpful and at breakfast the staff took care of my food intolerance needs... I thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the capital...
- rickyrimmerJun 2023 • 1 contributionThis was a great hotel to stay at for business due to the location and comfortable/cosy ambience, decor and setup of the property. The room I had was a good size (it was upgraded) and the facilities were of a high standard in the room... The restaurant layout and quality of service/food was all very satisfatctory...
- TartanTeddyBearJun 2023 • 2396 contributionsQuick and efficient check in and having contact the hotel beforehand to ask for a double and twin rooms they carried through on their promise. Rooms were compact but clean and tidy with comfortable beds, plenty of storage and a good over batch shower... Bottled water was provided daily for our 3 night stay... We had also booked afternoon tea at the hotel but due our cancelled flight we had to reschedule... Afternoon tea with sparkling wine was excellent... The hotel is a less than 10 mins walk to Holborn tube station and not much firth to Tottenham Court Road and then onto Oxford Street...
- andrealewinterMar 2023 • 2 contributions...The rooms are reliably clean and well stocked, a nice size and good price with comfy beds and nice amenities. The location is great if you want to be centrally located - quick walk to 2 Tube stops, 2 minutes from the British Museum, and great access to the theatre district and fun restaurants...
- Seaside41359Mar 2023 • 3 contributions...Therefore we booked elsewhere but are still trying to have the charges for breakfast for 6 adults refunded...
- Francesca DMar 2023 • 1 contribution...Diana and the front desk workers were so helpful and kind and got us everything we needed. The hotel is conveniently located near the tube on the Piccadilly line which got us everywhere we needed to go, and the breakfast is the best I’ve ever had at a hotel in any country I’ve traveled to... I cannot recommend this hotel enough...
- AdrianFeb 2023 • 11 contributions...We got surprisingly upgraded to a suite as we checked in. The room has a decently standard for the price we payed... The room was situated on the first floor and was very quiet with very little noise from outside... All of the staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful... I would recommend this hotel and certainly will consider staying again...
- AlesuizaDec 2022 • 8 contributions...It is centrally located in London: Oxford street and Covent Garden area at walking distance. Bus stop in front of the house and across the street... In the room you get 2 bottles of water (still and sparkling) per day and a kettle with tea & coffee, sugar and cream portions on choice... Narrow hallways lead to the rooms, several doors and carpets minimize noises... It was ok in size, not big, but enough for a city trip... As it was Winter, I can tell the room was well heated... I did not take the breakfast but my mom did and she said it was good... I recommend this place and would book this hotel again...
- Caroline HopleyDec 2022 • 24 contributions...This hotel is a perfect loction for Covent Garden, West End theatres, Shaftesbury Avenue, Holborn....you've got a less than 10 minute walk to Covent Garden and the Royal Opera House, and from there, you can hit all the key theatreland areas. The breakfast was good, the staff were really friendly and pleasant... They looked after our luggage as we checked out at the right time, but wanted to spend most of that day doing more shopping... The fact they have a luggage storage room is brilliant, and it's free too... We had free mini mince pies and hot chocolate at reception...
- NadjaDec 2022 • 4 contributions...They said we can store our lugagge and come back in the evening if we wanted to... - andrealewinterNov 2022 • 2 contributions...The beds were comfy and the upgraded our room. The bar was a nice feature in the evenings... The only negative is that we could not access the wifi in our room - or only rarely and it was very unreliable - so we had to go to the lobby to use the wifi...
- Deborah BOct 2022 • 47 contributions...The taxi was clean and easy, very worth the cost. However, you could take the tube and walk, the stations are not too far from the hotel... There is a restaurant and bar on the ground floor... There are elevators or stairs to use to reach the rooms... We were on the 5th floor in a deluxe king room... The room was clean, quite roomy, and well appointed... There was a fridge in the closet, extra pillows and towels there too... Tea and coffee are provided in the room... The shower was lovely, it took a minute to get the hot water but there was plenty... In the UK, there are never outlets for hair equipment, but there was a hair dryer in the drawer near the mirror and plenty of outlets in the room... Around the corner (if you turn right) there are several coffee shops and little restaurants... The tube is easy to reach from there and we used the tap tap feature so we didn't have to even buy tickets... All in all, I think this place was the perfect place to stay if you want to be in a nice neighborhood and have easy access to everything in London... London has amazing transportation services... Oh and the Museum is only one block away... It's a nice way to spend a rainy afternoon...
- PaolisTXOct 2022 • 62 contributions...Enjoyed the towel heater in the restroom and the warm water to shower with. Solid location as it's close to The British Museum and the Holborn Underground (Subway/AKA: The Tube) also near a Boots (US version of Walgreens) and Sainsbury grocery store... What I wish they would have honored was the refill of waters (spring and mineral)... We asked several times for our daily water and we were told they ran out... Breakfast was well served but it was the same breakfast options each day...
- Tourist-DeanOct 2022 • 15 contributionsWe had a fantastic stay, staff was super friendly and cheerful whether we were heading out for the day, coming back in or grabbing a bite to eat... Thistle Holborn is a stones throw from Covent Garden, theatre district, multiple tube stations, great dining and literally right down the street from Oxford St shopping... You're a 5-10 walk from the Elizabeth line if heading to or from Heathrow...

Detailed Reviews
The Thistle Holborn is a great hotel in central London that offers an excelllent value for money, which you hardly ever find in London. The room was nicely furnished and quite spacious (okay, I've got a free upgrade) and with nice facilities, such as a Nespresso coffee-machine, iron, safe, and much more. Flat-TV could be connected to my own Youtube-Account and the bed was really comfortable. The bathroom is also exceedingly spacious with a shower and bath, a rain shower and selected care products. A large buffet is available for breakfast, which leaves hardly anything to be desired. And on top of it all, staff is really friendly. Really, where do you find all this in London for a decent price? At the Thistle Holborn!

We visited this hotel 11 years ago and throughly enjoyed our stay. We decided to come and stay again for the weekend, the hotel location is fantastic with three tube stops within walking distance. Very close to the shops and has plenty of coffee shops close by.
The room and bathroom are quite tired now, however the bed was extremely comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. The room had everything we needed, complementary bottles of water tea coffee facilities iron and ironing board.
We had breakfast both mornings, the first morning it was better than the second day. We had the full English, found the sausages slightly undercooked for our liking but it was a nice sized portion and did not make us feel bloated or overly full. It’s very clean and tables are well spaced out to maintain social distancing. There is hand sanitisers located around the hotel.
All the staff are very pleasant and are more than happy to help with any queries. We used the bar the first evening, it wasn’t overly busy just a few in for drinks before they retired up to their room but again it was nice clean and we were able to have a conversation even though the football was on and some low background music.
We had a nice stay, we probably would stay again due to location, comfy bed and pleasant staff.

The hotel location is very good, not far from Holborn tube station and within walking distance of Oxford St. Leicester Sq, theatres and the British Museum.
I booked this hotel purely due to its proximity to my office for a recent work trip but would consider staying here for a leisure trip due to the good location and the fact that there are plenty of food and drink options nearby.
Breakfast is a buffet service consisting of hot and cold options and the food/service was ok. I ate dinner in the restaurant on the first night (of four) with my eight colleagues which was a bit hit and miss. The food was ok but in terms of service, some starters came out after main meals and it wasn’t particularly busy whilst we were there.
There’s a nice bar in the lobby/entrance area serving draught Guinness and Becks, nice place to drop in for a drink before heading out or after a long day.
I had booked a single room through our corporate booking system which was small, as expected but perfectly fine for my needs and well equipped including air conditioning system which came in handy as the size of the room meant it was really hot at certain times. The bathroom was small too but in proportion to the size of the room and shower was nice and hot with plenty of pressure. The room was situated on the first floor and was very quiet with very little noise from outside.
All of the staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful. I would recommend this hotel and certainly will consider staying again.

Part renovated hotel in my opinion. Entrance hall inviting but rooms a bit tired, windows all mouldy and not able to open. On arrival staff helpful. Heating not working in room so quite chilly, called at reception and said they would bring up a heater. We had to remind them again later that this hadn’t happened. Were provided with one eventually but no option of changing rooms. Staff didn’t seemed surprised...maybe a regular occurrence?? USB sockets available but didn’t actually work. Also one member of staff just walked into our room without knocking...not very professional!! Breakfast not included with our stay so had to pay £12 per person per day. Was ok but for the price of the room you would think it would be inclusive. Positives with the hotel were location, superb for everything really. Could be a really nice hotel, just finishing touches needed!

After a recent visit to the Thistle Hotel Holborn london on the 3rd/4th December, We arrived in our room to find it very dirty and dusty, see pictures. First call to reception to asked for cleaners. Second issue woke up the following day to no hot water at all. Second call to reception To be told a maintenance man would come up and look at the shower, 20 minutes later another phone call to reception as no one arrived. A total of four phone calls we had to make. Finally we had to leave our room for an appointment not been able to have a shower or any hot water.
Second morning again no hot water, we were told there was issues with the boiler, they knew what the problem was but couldn’t fix it. When we depart the hotel, The receptionist apologised and said it was not good enough and provided us with the email address to send an email to the manager.
we did this soon as we got home, the email has been ignored, obviously The manager is happy to allow guests to stay two days without hot water. We also spoke to Booking.com, they have explained they have spoken to the hotel and the hotel decided they felt nothing really was wrong and refused to even give any compensation. Very bad management, would avoid this hotel if you want any issues ignored, “Take the money and forget about the guests policy”.

Point of View = 30's American Tourist
We came to London as part of our first leg of our vacation and stayed at this property for 3 nights / 4 days. Here is a quick summary:
Pros':
1.) Really Strong Air Conditioning
This was great as we arrived at the hottest day on record 40C / 104 F
2.) Good Location
Useful bus stop right outside the hotel, walking distance to British National Museum, and short walk to Holborn Underground Station for other locations
3.) Friendly Staff
4.) Delicious Breakfast
See pics for the delicious London Breakfast
Con's
1.) Room is super small
This is again for American standards. It take some time to get use to but I found it its actually decently sized compared to my stay in Paris
2.) Bathroom Tub/Shower Water blocker is small
You have to be really careful when you take a shower or water will splash everywhere. I looked it up at the end and found out this is common in a lot of establishments to have this "half" glass plane that blocks some of the water
3.) Sink is super low
At 5' 11", the sink was situated around my knees. It required me to bend over significantly to do anything such as brushing my teeth or washing my face.
4.) Toilet / Toilet Paper Hard to Reach
You literally have to bend your elbow and arm in a weird way to reach the toilet paper. Maybe it's due to the small design but did not enjoy this at all.
5.) No sound proofing
You can easily hear the cars outside on the street and people in their rooms. You will get use to it after a while but just a forewarning.
Overall I think I enjoyed my stay despite the con's. Once you get use to the small nature of European hotel rooms and the differences between American hotel rooms / European hotel rooms, you will be fine.

Visited 15-16 Jan ‘22 with my mum and sister and stayed in a large room with huge bed and sofa bed.
We were greeted with a warm welcome which continued throughout our stay.
The location is great for walking to Covent Garden and Drury Lane and is just around the corner from Bloomsbury Square NCP secure parking.
Breakfast was £12 per head and there was a full selection of continental and “British” fare - eat as much as you like.
The interior feels quite special - a bit gothic and contemporary. The exterior is very typical for an 18th century building. There are several stairs to climb at the entrance and I’m unsure of another entrance for wheelchair access.
In the evening they light candles in lanterns and decorate the reception area with them which is a lovely, cosy touch.
A short, flat walk to Drury Lane, and Covent Garden. The locality feels more like a village than a big city and is packed with history.
I will definitely stay here again.

My sister and I got back today from a two-night stay at this hotel. We were really impressed. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our visit started well as we were able to check in early. I know it’s not always possible for the hotel to do this but it was much appreciated. The staff at breakfast were friendly and really efficient. They quickly cleared tables, kept things stocked up and when it was nearing 10am they would come round and very politely ask if you needed anything else as they were starting to finish breakfast service. The breakfast choices and quality were really good. Our rooms were fine. Yes, the decor needs some updating in places but they were very clean and we were very comfortable. We were even given adjacent rooms without asking. For us the hotel location was perfect. It’s central so convenient for various London attractions and theatreland but it’s just a little bit away from the really busy bit of Holborn. Our rooms at the back of the hotel were really quiet at night. So I’d really recommend this hotel. We enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Having stayed in London before, I know hotel rooms are usually small. So we decided to upgrade our room to a deluxe king. Also seeing this hotel is 4 star we was really looking forward to it.
We do not go looking for issues.
On arrival there was numerous issues with the room, the walls had dirty marks on, the sink was cracked, the mirror was worn and the head Board had hand prints on it.
We were going to leave it alone until my pregnant partner used the toilet and there was no toilet roll. We had been in the room 15 mins.
I rang reception who sent house keeping up, she asked ‘am I sure there’s no toilet roll’ with a smirk on her face. She told us this room was a standard double. We had booked a deluxe king.
We complained about the condition of the room and was moved from 502 to 602. Directly above the old room.
This room was in slightly better condition but I wouldn’t say 4 star. No robes like was advertised. The day after house keeping had been in, bins were not emptied, glass wear wasn’t replaced, coffee machine wasn’t restocked. Yet the day after that it was all done.
The noise at night is Unbelievable and I’m a heavy sleeper.
If you are expecting to watch tv whilst getting ready then I wouldn’t bother. Free view channels only, TV guide doesn’t work. Has I player and itv hub only which doesn’t work
Overall we were disappointed because you advertise as a 4 star, so I expected certain standards which were way off. If I had booked a 1 or 2 star and seen this then I wouldn’t be bothered.
Hotel needs some tlc. Simple lick of paint would do wonders.
Plus sides is location. Easy walking distance to Covent Garden and numerous theatres. Also walking distance from Euston.
I wouldn’t stay here again and I’d advise people to compare other hotels before booking this one

Stayed at the Thistle Holborn hotel 5 nights on a girls break for my 20 year old daughter and I to visit London tourist spots and we hoped a theatre visit of which we saw Six the musical.
We had planned initially a Spain trip but changed to London back in January and chose the thistle Holborn for location and previous reviews and considering these guys only opened back up to customers May 27th they have been superb. Every single staff member in this hotel goes out their way to make your trip and nothing is too much trouble.
Breakfast was plenty and great choice and quality.
We are so pleased we chose London and the Thistle Holborn.
Thank you all.
