I have one wall with peeled wallpaper and one wall with red ponyskin wallpaper......this place may not appeal to those who like shiny new and characterless hotels HOWEVER if like me you like character, style and a soupcon of wacky you will LOVE it here! I was greeted by mike who told me this is his place and made to feel very welcome. My room is in the attic wih a view overlooking Kings Cross. My room is.......well check out the pictures, its wacky and wonderful and i bloody love it!

Appalling. Just appalling. Booked two rooms for a five night stay via Airbnb but checked out early as a mouse was running around one of the rooms in the small hours while water (Clean? Dirty? Sewage? Don’t know) from an unknown source was dripping from the ceiling of the other. Owner ignored all requests for information/refund since checking out. Airbnb body swerved any responsibility by claiming they were only the platform used for the booking. By far the worst hotel experienced I have ever endured. Recommend the Rough Luxe Hotel? I wouldn’t wish it on an arch enemy.

We stayed here last night for my husbands birthday it's brilliant eclectic mix of fine art and fabrics and no wallpaper and carpet makes for an interesting assault of the senses Rabihs day beds are amazing and if I can save up I am going to buy one. Located in the heart of Town it really is a great location and a good quality stay There are only nine suites and I would recommend that you starch the hotel before you stay, snobs drive pass as you just won't understand It's dog friendly and we shared a sumptious breakfast with a wedding party and whilst communal eating would not be my husbands first choice fantastic coffee, hot croissants, fresh orange scrambled eggs ham and cheese rounded off a superb weekend break We will definitely go back

Booked this primarily due to its location to Eurostar and it is ideal for that and has plenty of nice restaurants close by. I get the "rough" part that's very obvious but not so sure on the "luxe" I think as a concept it is very clever but you have to work equally hard on all parts of the concept - torn sheets ,lamps that don't work - these are basics that should always be up to scratch - neither was. The rooms really are small but you are forewarned, I would have appreciated some help being offered to carry my case up the steep and windy stairs - I struggled but anyone to ask had already disappeared. If you have a room at the front - particularly at a weekend take some earplugs, it is incredibly noisy. Toiletries very nice and shower good too. If you like different and want something unique then you might just enjoy this, personally I found it a little depressing , too much rough and not enough luxe.

I can only assume that this is a long term renovation project as most of the walls are bare plaster and the door frames stripped ready for something. Having said that the bed was clean and comfortable, the bathroom completely renovated looking very new. There was barely enough space in the room to walk around the bed whilst an old black and white portable TV and snakes & ladders game I assume were to give the room a retro feel. I think it will improve as renovation progresses and the owner needs paying customers to fund the works. It is a great location for access to London Kings Cross station but be warned that's a very busy and noisy junction particularly with single glazing in the rooms. And finally, if you need to leave early as we did, there are no breakfast facilities (which we were warned about to be fair) there are no staff in the hotel so you just need to push your key under the office door.

Despite the completely scruffy appearance of the inside reception and stairs when we got to our room we were pleasantly surprised, it was very comfortabe, clean with a lovely shower. We enjoyed a very pleasant night.

This is the most disgusting place you can find. Cramped dark rooms attempting some kind of shabby chic with no chic whatsoever. Admittedly they tried with the bathroom but the showe was broken and the towels had seen much better days not to mention the view onto the street from the shower itself. Broken hairdryer and lock on the door and the pictures tell you the rest. Despite paying for 2 nights I wouldn't have spent another minute in that hellhole

I can see why people would book to stay here. It's in a good location for Camden, St Pancras and some good night life. However, it's not all it's cracked up to be. Customer service is severely lacking and realistically, the owner/manager should have turned down our booking. A family with two children, the place is unsuitable. Alas, it wasn't booked by me, for £488 you can get a lot more for your money! Give me a Premier Inn over this any day!

My wife and I recently stayed at the Rough Luxe. The room was perfect for our needs. We inquired with the manager on where we could wash some clothes since we were traveling for 17 days. He offered to wash them for us. This is excellent customer service!! Thanks again!!

Stayed here earlier this week when in London on business and took my family along too. We booked a 'Junior Suite' but I think this is a little ambitious to reference a suite to be honest. It seemed that a standard size hotel room had been chopped into 3 to accommodate 2 very small rooms and a bathroom. We managed in the circumstances though. The décor is absolutely 'rough' with a shabby chic feel - I really liked it but the critics and sceptics amongst travellers could argue it's just lazy on the decorating front :-) Location wise it's perfect for Kings Cross area but very noisy with sirens throughout the night - especially as we had to have the window open to cool the room down all night. The host / owner is very friendly and helpful - nice guy. I enjoyed my stay and would maybe stay here again in the future as fairly good value for the price. The handmade toiletries were really very nice too by the way.
