Devonshire Club & Hotel offers all the luxury and glamour of a West End private members’ club combined with the style and panache of the East End. Conveniently nestled in a quiet pedestrian square away from the hustle and bustle of the city and just two minutes walk from Liverpool Street. The Club is spacious and comprises an 18th Century former East India Company warehouse and a large Georgian townhouse. The main building houses the principal rooms of the Devonshire Club and has its own boutique hotel with 68 bedrooms and suites. Spread over 5 floors at the heart of the club is a stunning 110 seat brasserie with a huge marbled seafood counter. A Champagne bar leads into a wonderful Garden Room and the Club has its own secret garden. On the first floor is the Library, the elegant Causerie, and Cocktail Bar. There are four private meeting/dining rooms.

Neighborhood
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

Check in was simple, but the room was small and bathroom also a bit of a tight squeeze. Well placed for business purposes. Noise penetrated from adjacent rooms. The breakfast was great and the staff were pleasant and accommodating.

The Devonshire Club is well located in the business district of London, however it is not far from the Tower of London. For tourists you can easily walk to the hop on hop off bus and visit all the sights. It is also close the the tube trains. The rooms are excellent, very clean, modern and quiet. The staff are very friendly and efficient. We had a minor issue with part of our package, however that was sorted quickly. Overall a great hotel in a relaxing environment.

I booked the Devonshire Club on Secret Escapes and was looking forward to visiting last weekend. First impressions were good although I would say that the reception staff could have been more friendly. Decor is lovely and the bedroom although on the smaller size was nicely decorated too. Shower was brilliant and all the amenities you could want were in the bathroom including robes and slippers. The only disappointment in the room was the tea and coffee making facilities. There was a Nespresso machine which to be honest I'm not mad on as the coffee never seems that hot to me but this was also the only way to make a cup of tea. I did ask at reception if we were able to get a kettle in the room but they said it wasn't but we could order tea through room service. I wasn't going to order room service to get a cup of tea after paying over £200 for the hotel room for the night so I had to make do with a luke warm cup of tea in a tiny espresso type cup. The most disappointing aspect of our stay was the breakfast. The breakfast menu was £30 per head although we had it included in our stay. You order your hot option from the waiting staff and help yourself to yogurts, fruit etc from the buffet. There was hardly any sliced pineapple left and the fruit salad looked like it came out of a tin. This is meant to be a 5 star hotel and this really isn't what I expect from a hotel of this standard. We ordered tea and coffee and also toast. My daughter also ordered orange juice and a second coffee. The orange juice, toast and 2nd coffee never appeared unfortunately despite asking for it twice. The waitress was rushing around the restaurant refilling jugs of water. We weren't really bothered about water at breakfast but this seemed to be her priority. We ordered smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast, again this was a disappointment. It took ages to arrive and when it did my scrambled egg was only warm instead of being hot and the smoked salmon was okay but the dish didn't look at all appetising. On our way out for the day we did advise the reception staff about the breakfast disaster and they said they would tell the restaurant manager and did apologise but you just didn't feel that they were that bothered. When we returned to collect our cases we decided to go into the bar to have a drink before we left for the train station. The whole area was empty apart from about 4 people sitting in the outside area. We ordered a bottle of wine and the waiter did make sure that it arrived cold as we had ordered but there were no nibbles. We stay at lots of decent hotels and you generally get nibbles with your drink. After a while a member of the bar staff came over and poured out some wine for us and I asked her if there were any nibbles. She told me that unfortunately they didn't have any left. I asked her to check and she came back with a bowl of mixed nuts etc and she said that was the last one left! What sort of hotel is this. The bar area lacked atmosphere and we were the only people to enter the bar until we left over an hour later. Decor is fab but it really looks like this hotel is running on a shoestring. They want to be 5 star, charge 5 star prices but with only 3 star service. A very disappointing stay and we won't be returning.

The hotel is in a great location , very quiet , reception was good , staff attentive and polite, room great we had high expectations , we had drinks in the conservatory area before and after dinner (went out to dinner) served straight away on both occasions , conservatory is lovely . Next morning being a sunday we went to breakfast at approx 9-40 , breakfast is served until 11, the self serve table needed topping up as fresh fruit, meat & cheese , bread had all been depleted , we were served a fruit juice and coffee promptly , we asked for the meat and cheese to be replenished which took 40 minutes , cooked breakfast took over an hour and was served on cold plates in all we were in the restaurant for breakfast for an hour and a half ! we had to ask for a tea/coffeee top up , the waitress said that plenty of toast would follow as we wanted a mixture of white.sourdough and brown , i will bring plenty she said with preserves 6 pieces arrived , 1 each as there was 6 of us, no preserves and the buffet table never had bread or pastries replenished come on guys , its not difficult to get this right!! whilst we were not in a hurry , breakfast could easily have been completed in 30 mins , even with hot items being freshly cooked.

A good stay, nice hotel. Maybe I didn’t get the full use of the hotel because I only stayed one night but to me it was very pricey for what it offered. It’s in a good location, couple mins walk to liverpool st stations. 12 minute walk to brick lane and nice part of east London. Like others I did find it hard to find, but a really helpful staff member who answered the phone was patient and helped me so thanks for that.
