Set in an elegant Victorian building nestling in the lush beauty of the private Egerton Gardens, The Franklin combines the warmth of a private home with the impeccable service of a luxury hotel. The hotel was refurbished by celebrity designer Anouska Hempel, whose work has helped create a temple to hospitality. Here, the charm of an English house meets the magic of Italian design, and the result is a unique, original style that has transformed The Franklin into one of the most outstanding boutique hotels on the London scene. Its common areas are embellished with sumptuous Italian velvets and silks, exclusive furnishings in grey tones and sophisticated decorative objects. Every one of the 35 spacious rooms and suites is a distillation of elegance and style. Flooded with natural light, tastefully decorated and boasting the finest contemporary comforts, they are sure to live up even the most demanding expectations. Most offer views of Knightsbridge or the lush green of Egerton Gardens. The Franklin Restaurant offers a superb gastronomic experience created by Michelin-starred Chef Alfredo Russo. The Franklin Bar is a stylish, Gatsby-esque world, a wonderful place to enjoy a Martini cocktail or a glass of Champagne. The Franklin offers very high standards of personalized service with Les Clefs d'Or Concierges, 24-hour room service and a team dedicated to organizing unforgettable experiences for the guests. The hotel also features a spectacular hammam, a fitness center, and a cozy library.

We simply cannot say enough wonderful things about The Franklin! We just returned yesterday and had the most amazing vacation and a big part of that was due to The Franklin. Staff are very friendly, the neighborhood is quiet (especially if you have a garden view), and the South Kensington tube stop is less than a 10 minute walk. We started off in a Superior Room which was larger than we anticipated and the only thing I felt was missing was a full length mirror. Bed was very comfortable and we greatly appreciated the complimentary bottles of water. We then got moved to an Executive Suite because the A/C went out in our room and that was also delightful. The steam room was a nice, relaxing experience. Everything inside was beautiful and clean. The real treat at The Franklin was the breakfast! This was included in our particular package and it was out of this world delicious! The coconut/pineapple porridge, avocado toast, and pastries were my absolute favorite. Hopefully we can be back in London in a few years and there is no doubt we will be back at The Franklin!

We decided to try this hotel again following a successful first stay a couple of years ago. However our stay this time has been awful and we wouldn't stay here again or recommend it to anyone for the following reasons: 1. As a pregnant woman, it is recommended that I have eggs of British Lion quality or those made under the Laid in Britain scheme, because these eggs come from hens that have been vaccinated against salmonella. As I was interested in having the hotel's Alice in Wonderland Afternoon Tea, I emailed them 2.5 weeks ahead of my stay to ask if it would be possible to make the Afternoon Tea suitable for a pregnant woman. 3 days later I received a response saying "in regards to the usage of British Lion hen eggs – we do not use them in our hotel, what we can do as an alternative is produce an eggs free afternoon tea – which in this case will not be exactly Alice in wonderland themed". I didn't think it was fair that I would have to have a sub-par, non-themed afternoon tea just because I was pregnant and found that to be very unwelcoming towards pregnant women. I queried why a 5* hotel wasn't using eggs from one of the two schemes I'd mentioned, to ensure the safety of not only its pregnant guests, but all its guests, against salmonella. I was informed that they use eggs imported from Italy (apparently because the chef is Italian and that is his preference). Eventually after I called the hotel after not receiving a response for a number of days, I was put in touch with the Director of Food and Beverage who tried to get import certificates from the producer in Italy to provide peace of mind that the eggs were in fact vaccinated against salmonella. I had to chase the Director up for an update on this the day before my stay, and unfortunately the egg producer still hadn't responded. This meant that on the day of my stay I was only left with the choice of having a vegan afternoon tea, which was not of equal quality to the normal non-veg Alice in Wonderland Theme. Namely, the sweet part had no cakes and mostly consisted of mousses, because they didn't have the capacity to make vegan cakes. Have you ever had an afternoon tea without cake in it?? I certainly haven't and I don't understand how a 5* hotel can think that not offering vegan cake in a vegan afternoon tea is an acceptable alternative. I was hugely frustrated by the fact that this "5* hotel" doesn't bother thinking about the various dietary requirements of its guests and how to cater to them. They clearly haven't thought sufficiently about pregnant women when considering their menus, because they should know whether or not their eggs are vaccinated against salmonella. They also don't care to provide an equivalent offering for vegan afternoon teas, because they haven't bothered to create a Vegan Afternoon Tea Menu that is just as good as their normal non-veg one. They don't have vegetarian or vegan afternoon tea menus on their website either, so these people need to call up to find out what is on offer. The burden shouldn't be on people with these dietary requirements to call the hotel up - it should be clearly set out on a separate menu on their website. This is the case for the Ampersand Hotel (which we had to call up last minute on the day of our stay), which has clearly, well thought out menus on their website for vegetarian, vegan and gluten free people, and even kids, when it comes to their Science Afternoon Tea. The Ampersand Hotel doesn't make people with these dietary requirements call them up to find out what's on offer, and their vegan afternoon tea menu is just as good as the non-veg version, without any compromises on the theme or the desserts (and a vegan cake is part of their offering). The Franklin has no excuse for being less welcoming to people with minority dietary requirements, which is evidenced by them not having appropriately well-thought out and public menus on their websites. If one of their competitors just 10 minutes down the road can get this right without being given any notice at all, why can't The Franklin? I was also told very firmly when I called on the morning of my stay that I'd need to decide at that very moment whether I wanted to go ahead with the vegan afternoon tea because they needed time to prepare, even though I'd said I would call them back to let them know. Given that my delay in deciding was The Franklin's fault in not knowing whether their eggs are vaccinated against salmonella and not having a vegan menu on their website, it was shocking that I was put on the spot that way and spoken to the way I was by a member of their staff. She seemed to have entirely forgotten that she was in the service business. 2. After getting over the above fiasco on the day of our stay, SOLELY thanks to the great service provided by the Ampersand Hotel with their vegan afternoon tea, we came back to our room at The Franklin and wanted to watch Netflix or Prime, which required a Smart TV. We noticed that Airplay was working on the TV in our lounge but not in our bedroom. When I informed the staff and asked for a technician to come and fix it, they said they would. Then they called back and said the technician wasn't in because it was a Sunday (!) and that they were aware of issues with Airplay not working on some devices, but couldn't do anything about it. The fact that they didn't inform us of this issue before we chose our room and that they don't have a technician in everyday (when hotels are a 24/7 business), is shoddy service for a 5* hotel. When you're paying a lot for a room, you expect the TVs to be Smart TVs and you expect them to work. Failing that, you expect a technician to sort it out. It was unacceptable that this was even an issue in the first place and that they had no way of rectifying it. This negatively affected our experience because we couldn't watch TV in bed, which is a very normal thing to want to do when you're staying in a hotel. Further, as a pregnant woman, watching TV in bed is more comfortable than sitting on a hard chair (which was what was available in the lounge), so this really compromised my ability to relax in the room. 3. I had booked a pregnancy massage and their spa menu says "Services and treatments can be charged to your room" without any mention of a 10% surcharge for booking this through the concierge. After a lovely massage with their external masseuse, she oddly presented me with the choice of paying the amount I was expecting to pay by cash, or charge it to the room with a 10% surcharge. I told her I wasn't informed of a 10% surcharge or the option to pay by cash, and that I'd discuss it with the hotel. The hotel's response was that it's "normal" for hotels to impose a surcharge in this kind of situation, to which I responded that there was no mention of the 10% surcharge in the spa menu, the concierge didn't mention it to me when I booked it, and it is not legal for anyone to impose an extra charge on a service that hasn't been agreed upfront. The staff member I was speaking to said that she couldn't resolve the issue and that she'd need to speak to the manager in the morning. The service I received on this issue was appalling and following the above two issues, has confirmed my view that this is a hotel which calls itself 5* but really operates like a 3* or 4* in terms of its service. In the end the manager didn't charge the 10% surcharge, but hastened to add that this kind of charge is normal. I've stayed in 5* hotels around the world and have never been charged a 10% surcharge on a massage, so that has certainly not been my experience. It's also just bad practice from a customer service perspective to not inform the customer of this when they're booking. Overall, I've found at least three different staff members to be unaccommodating and combative when I've raised valid points in relation to their shortfalls, and for this reason I think the issue here is systematic and not a one off. As a pregnant woman who came here for a relaxing stay before a hospital appointment, I've been put through an unnecessary amount of stress in relation to all of the above and the money I've spent here on the room and massage has been a total waste. The masseuse was great and did a good job of making me feel relaxed after issues 1 & 2 above, but within 5 minutes of leaving the treatment room and being on the phone to reception to sort out the payment issue, my relaxed feeling went and the tension came back again. This hotel kept getting worse and worse instead of redeeming itself, and I wasted an hour on the night of my stay at The Franklin writing this review because of how disappointed and annoyed I was at the service I received. I was going to ask for a later checkout but after all of the above ordeals, I checked out on time and resolved NEVER to come back. If you're considering this hotel, do yourself a favour and avoid the headache. The service is not what it should be for what you pay - and I say this as someone who has travelled extensively around the world and stayed at 5* hotels. We initially chose this hotel on the strength of its reviews and our prior stay, but if it was a true 5* hotel that can stand the test of time and multiple visits, I wouldn't have had this stay from hell. If you care about good, non-combative service where they go over and above to cater to your needs and don't impose sneaky charges that they haven't advertised or informed you about in advance, choose another hotel.

It is not often that I e]write a review but the Franklin deserves one. It is a small boutique hotel very well run. All the staff, reception, concierge, restaurant and housekeeping were extremely helpful and friendly. We had a well appointed room overlooking an English garden. breakfast choices were incredible and high quality. We would not hesitate returning to the Franklin on our next trip to London.

Your stay at the Franklin will be memorable. The rooms have been stunningly appointed by celebrity designer Anoushka Hempel. The tiny bar is so cosy it feels like home. The Michelin restaurant offers small and perfectly shaped portions of dishes. This place in a quiet corner of Knightsbridge / South Kensington ticks all the boxes of a luxury hotel. It has truly the WOW factor.

If you want to be really close to the hustle and bustle of Knightsbridge but have a little haven of peace and tranquility this is the place to stay. Looks unassuming from the front but tastefully decorated, lots of little corners to sit and enjoy a glass of something from the quaint bar. The room was well equipped with some nice touches, chocolates, hand written note and all bottled water complimentary. All the team were great but in particlaur the guy who managed our luggae and doormen was genuine, warm and helpful. Would definitely reccomend!

I truly wished it was my birthday today as the meal I had was definitely fit for an occasion indeed. To begin with, I had the Fassona beef tartare beautifully presented with an ever better taste. The hazelnut complemented the soft melt in your mouth beef pieces. We were also provided with freshly baked breadsticks, roll and foccacia. So lovely to have them warm. For my mains, I really couldn't choose between the beef fillet and salted cod but finally decided upon the latter. Once again, this arrived in a gorgeous format, almost too pretty too dismantle. The crispy skin sure was a delight indeed. Being a cheese fan, I couldn't help but choose the Cheeseboard and was delighted to be served 4 pieces of cheese (parmesan, ricotta, gorgonzola and goats cheese ) served with grapes and onion compote. My favourite was parmesan but the others were good too. I did sample some of my friend's mint puff pastry dessert and it was fabulous too. From what I had this evening, I can certainly say that you really need to eat here! I was definitely spoilt tonight, thank you! My friend not on here would love to thank you too! #Disclaimer- I did not pay for the food but was not asked to review here.

We have been there in different occasions and this time, the bar has launched its own cocktail menu which is absolutely phenomenal: it is inspired by a journey around Italy. The drinks are stunning both in presentation and taste. Antonio, the Head Bartender really makes some of the best drinks in UK and if you can’t find something on the menu that suits your mood, just ask Antonio’ expertise. The whole team is really friendly and knowledgeable. The bar snacks delicious too. Stunning hotel with a really lovely garden in a well located area. Highly recommended!!!

Unfortunately, it does not live up to its promise. The TV screens in the room are small and old. There is no desk or real place to work. The wifi was not adequate most of the time we were there. And …we were there for over a week, never fruits in the room or chocolates at night… Never asked how our stay was going… For the price, it’s not worth it. There are much better places for this type of price. When we left…again never asked about our stay, they obviously did not want to know!

Stayed at the hotel to celebrate a special occasion and were not disappointed! The location is lovely just off a quiet residential street with plenty of privacy. We were given a lovely room with views to the garden and lots of space. Bathroom was amazing with 2 showers - great water pressure as well. Service was overall nice and attentive but also discreet. Hotel acknowledged our special occasion with a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates which is always very much appreciated! Breakfast can be served in the room at no extra cost and it’s a great option if you want to enjoy a few more minutes in bed. Food was delivered at the time agreed and was of great quality. We had a really good time and will be coming back for sure.

Pros: beautiful quiet location, lovely four poster bed, decent room service options, nice toiletries slippers & robes, friendly staff, comfortable bed. Cons: needs refurbishment to detail (cracks on glass side tables, wear marks on bed frame, loose towel rail). Poor shower pressure, no walk in shower in room (could perhaps have been moved to one with one?). Minibar EXTORTIONATE. £5 for a bottle of coke? Chill out mate.
