I booked for 15 to have lunch last Friday and I would like to commend both the food (the twice baked cheese soufflé was very tasty) and particularly the young man who supervised our table. The prebooked food arrived promptly and accurately and the whole meal went smoothly and well. The pub itself is a fascinating survival with its layout...

The pub has a fantastic atmosphere, very old fashioned. The food is really amazing and the staff is very helpful. Went for early dinner. Bear in mind that is better to book a table since the dinning area is a little bit small. Worth a visit!

Great Old-School London pub located next to the old Smithfield Market. Great English fare with some interesting newer dishes and excellent beers. Highly recommended. Busy with all types of customers. Tucked away so you need to google maps.

A friend and I had breakfast on Friday morning at about 08.45. Breakfast here is a wide selection of properly done breakfasts, like full English, many different options for eggs (eggs Benedict etc.) and even breakfast with a pint of stout (the pub has an extended licence to serve the meat market next door). Food was excellent, service was both...

Hi Alistair, Thank you very much for taking the time to review your recent experience at the Fox and Anchor for breakfast. I will pass on your lovely comments to both the kitchen and front of house team who will no doubt be thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the food and the service respectively. I do hope that we...

Fantastic atmosphere, we had a booth in the back of the pub, was atmospheric and really cosy. We chose a city breakfast which was a huge plate of sausage, bacon, steak, lover black pudding, beans, egg, mushrooms and fried bread. Very classy As it followed by a pint of Guinness! Recommended!

Abit delayed with my review as stopped for 1 night in September as part of a wedding group. Staff seemed very friendly although check in could have been smoother as they had IT problems. We were free to choose any room and we chose the first room which we viewed which was on the 1st floor which faced the front...

We spent three nights here. We were very pleased with the pub and our room. It was clean, conveniently located and surprisingly quiet at night despite the location. I would offer one criticism, our service was spotty. Although the room was clean, it was not always stocked consistently, our last night there was no milk for drinks in the morning...

My commute into London is just too long to be able to get back after an evening event. I have been using the Fox and Anchor as my London dorm for over a year. Very nice rooms, similar in style and spec to the Hotel du Vin chain. The pub below is not busy late, so the nights are quiet....

Had a brunch option - potato hash, duck egg and ham. It was exceptionally good. That and a glass of house wine cost just over £10. The pub was quite tucked away and quiet on a Friday lunchtime but I was suprised it wasn't busier. Much better than SoS and others nearby, and much better value.

Great place to stop and have some food and a drink after a day of sightseeing. Yum food. Sat outside and watched London go by.... situated 15 minutes walk from the museum of London and about 20 minutes from the Thames.

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighborhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.

Nestled deep in the lively & exciting Smithfield area, the former original London gin-joint has been lovingly restored to its former glory and a whole lot more as well. The Fox & Anchor originates from the late Victorian era and has been serving the traders of Smithfield market for years.
