Malmaison Liverpool is located in what used to be the dodgy, dirty docks of Liverpool. The regeneration of the last 15 years is astounding, and now this are is a stones throw from bars, restaurants, and a wonderful area to walk. Malmaison brings its trendy, modern aesthetic to the dockside - Liverpudlians could never have imagined this being here 20 years ago. Reception is a little odd but very usable, with a significant waiting lounge area. Staff were really helpful. The room was large and relaxing, and offers a special enough experience without being opulent. Bed was large and comfortable. Loads of space and furniture - good for a long stay or business. I was also there for business so found wifi okay, not brilliant. Coffee and tea making facilities were good, including decaf options and proper filter coffee in bags (though I had to ask for more of everything after housekeeping came round). They try to sell a load of confectionary at ludicrous prices - I hate it when hotels do this as it is poor service, poor value, and means the items have been sitting there a long time. Desk was okay to work at, though a bit cluttered with the confectionary and coffee etc. Minibar was good, good bathroom. It also all felt very comfortable, and I was happy spending the days inside too, if a little dark in the trendy decor. Breakfast was great, the usual cooked items buffet, strong coffee delivered in faux silver pots. Service excellent and very friendly. There is a very trendy bar set out in red velvet and lighting, and this is a nice spot for a few drinks at the end of a long day. Cocktails were expensive, but wine and beer are good value. For Valentine's weekend they do special deals for a stay with dinner, and it's such a good deal I will definitely do it in the future, but it does of course make the trendy getaway fill up with young revellers from around the north west. Which is funny, because the rest of the year Malmaison feels like a very grown-up, smart hotel to be at, with well-to-do tourists and visiting business people, and significantly more relaxed. Royal Albert docks are less than half a mile stroll along the waterfront, while looking across the Mersey to Birkenhead, and passing the Liver Building, museums, monuments, historical buildings and pieces of art. And that is where I would choose to go for dinner of an evening, with plenty of choice and an attractive setting. While the centre of town is a short walk also. Train station is a bit of a way, but cheap by taxi. Multistorey car park immediately opposite hotel. Normally, Malmaison is pricey. And seeing other names in the area (Mercure, Crown Plaza, and event Travelodge) I couldnt help but think - is it worth the money, and will I find I would have preferred a perceived more consistent contemporary. The result surprised me, right from the off, and I was very glad I didn't go for any of the old standard hotels. Overall, Malmaison Liverpool succeeds in delivering the perfect blend of business-functional, comfortable lodging, within a quirky, modern hotel, with good bar and restaurant. Staff were excellent throughout, and you will leave feeling slightly pampered and as though you have been somewhere rather special! I look forward to what will become a regular destination in the future. …
We had a really nice stay here at the Malmaison last month. Thanks to the staff and in particular to Elettra, she's been really professional! Hope we'll have the chance to come back in the future and have some of the fantastic cocktails we drank!
We booked a night in Liverpool as we love the place and visit 3 or 4 times a year. We thought we would try Malmaison for a change. Now we only used your hotel to sleep so I can't comment on your food and drink or services you offer I can only comment on the room. We walked in and were pleased as it's a nice room. The beds were comfy and the bath is massive. We went straight out around the city for the day. When we returned and settled in for the night we looked at all the stuff in the mini bar which was all immaculately laid out and priced. We were at least expecting a bottle of water for gratis. We then found a pair of socks from a previous guest and what I can only describe as something that looked like kebab meat by the bed. So I suspect the housekeeping is not up to standard which is worrying in the current climate. Don't think we'll stay again.…
Spent a couple of nights here recently with a friend to see the sights of Liverpool. What a lovely experience it was! From the welcoming fire in reception to the warm welcome from the staff, we immediately felt relaxed. The rooms were very comfortable, especially the bed & the pillows and the bathroom was luxurious. We found all the staff extremely pleasant, helpful and friendly. The food was amazing, as were the cocktails, especially the Pina Colada! The location was perfect for walking to the docks or into the the town centre. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
My husband knows I like Malmaison hotels so booked a surprise break for us here. Very nice hotel, great for exploring some of the most iconic sites in Liverpool. Our superior room was comfortable with a lovely big bath. We ate in the hotel on the first night as part of our deal, food was ok, service a bit casual, tables and banquette seating in need of a little TLC. Nice bar staff. We had breakfast on the last morning, bit disappointing and probably not worth paying the extra for if you are on a room only deal (lots of good places nearby). Overall would recommend as you know what you are getting for your money and location great.
