#67 of 100 hotels in Liverpool
Sefton Park Hotel is a beautifully restored Victorian Villa overlooking the Boating Lake in Sefton Park, the largest park in Liverpool. It is one of the original detached houses on the perimeter of the park where rich merchants and shipping magnates once lived in style. Today it offers a warm friendly welcome, comfortable accommodation and quality food and drink which is served in Astrid's Bar and Michelngelo's Italian Restaurant. More modern history confirms that 'The Blenheim' was, infact, the family home of the fifth Beatle, Stuart Sutcliffe in the 1960s. Stuart's family continued to live here until 1970.

We had my daughter & cousins communion party here, it’s was beautifully set out, Nadia couldn’t have done enough, thank you. Food was gorgeous and staff where lovely, it was a lovely day so the out door space was ideal especially to keep an eye on the kids on the bouncy castle!

I recommended this hotel to my sister for her 60th birthday party as I had attended a wedding here 2 years prior and thought it was lovely... The actual function side of the operation was good, function room decor looked nice and the food was also good, although you can't pay by card at the function room bar or charge drinks to your room. Cash only!! To make the birthday celebrations last longer and to avoid late night taxis home, (we don't live far from the hiotel and a taxi home would have been less than £10) we also booked out 6 of the bedrooms, this is where the whole place lets itself down, we were charged a "reduced rate" of £119 per room as we were having the function there... the rooms were priced the same on their own website the night before... deposits of £23.80 per room were paid to secure the bookings with balance of £95.20 to be paid upon check in, however the night before the party one family member called the hotel to check on the bookings and gave the receptionist their full name, only to be told there was no booking for them (we had previously provided the hotel with a list of who would be staying in each of the 6 rooms we had booked) so they booked another room at the "reduced rate" and paid in full over the phone. They called me and told me this, I advised there was a booking already secured for them and the hotel had made a mistake, my cousin called back within 10 minutes of making the booking and was advised the £119 they had just paid could be taken off the balance of the other rooms we had booked. Upon check in, we encountered the rudest member of staff on reception, she had absolutely no customer service skills and insisted that their "cancellation policy" meant we couldn't have the £119 paid the night before in error refunded and we still had to pay for the room as part of the group booking, we tried explaining this was a genuine oversight and the hotel were also at fault as they had said there was no booking in the names given the night before, yet they were on the list for the group booking given at the time the function was booked, we tried to appeal to her better nature but that was pointless as she didn't have one, to avoid spooling my sisters celebrations we had to accept this and paid the balance for the rest of the rooms... We were then asked for a security deposit of £25 per room in case of damage... Not sure what they thought was going to happen at a family function where the average age was 55-60 and with a young baby in tow, again we paid up so we could finally get into our rooms and start preparing for the celebrations. Oh my god the rest of the hotel is awful, there is no lift, which we knew but the carpet up the stairs and corridors is threadbare, the hotel area itself stinks of cigarette smoke (even tho it's no smoking hotel) the rooms were "musty" and old fashioned in decor.... Not period but old fashioned... There is a difference. some of the furniture was broken, in my room the only 2 sockets visible were just by the door so if you wanted to iron you would be blocking yourself in, I managed to find another socket sticking out from behind the wardrobe (which incidentally was too big for the alcove so it was placed in front of it) Beautiful big sash windows with nice heavy drapes in the bedroom, however no privacy to get dressed unless you closed them, thus blocking out the natural daylight, a voil/sheer curtain beneath the drapes would help and in the bathroom, although frosted glass there was nothing covering the window at all so the occupants of the building facing would be able to see almost everything meaning a shower was out of the question... Good job really as it wasn't the cleanest either. All the rooms we booked had something or other wrong with them, I will say the bedding was clean with crisp white sheets but that's about it. Breakfast was also poor, it's either a full cooked breakfast or cereal and toast, don't know why I was expecting a buffet of everything for the price they are charging, after all you can get a premier inn with full buffet breakfast for less than £50 a night!! The service was also really bad here too, we waited about 45 minutes for breakfast and the toast arrived after we'd finished, and the tea and coffe was just a table with an urn on it and basic teabags and coffee sachets....there is a big coffee machine at the bar but you have to pay extra for that. But to be honest you would probably overlook the other stuff if the service compensated for it, but the girl on reception lets the whole place down, she was rude, obnoxious and totally lacking in people skills, there wasn't a please, thank you or a welcoming smile, not a very good front of house representative. This hotel in the right hands and with a bit of money spent on it in the right places could be amazing, however it lets itself down badly. It is a beautiful period property in a fantastic location but completely lacking in character once inside and in desperate need of some staff training. As I've said it is currently a waste of a beautiful historic location. I would never recommend this place again and would most definitely never ever stay there again. Very overpriced, I'm out of pocket and very underwhelmed. It has delusions of grandeur it cannot and does not pull off. Avoid it and stay in the city centre for less.

Arrived to have a meal on Tuesday 7 May. On arrival saw member of staff checking somebody in. Waited 10 minutes in bar area. Nobody appeared. Rang bell same girl came. Asked her if steak special advertised outside was on offer. She did not know and had to go and see chef. Waited 15 minutes and went around to check in area where she was seeing to customer who had came in after me. Asked if she was only member of staff on to which she replied yes. She then said incidentally steak off was not on and advert outside would be removed. Went past hotel today Saturday 11th offer still advertised outside. Her attitude very unprofessional. Would recommend anyone to avoid this establishment.
