I booked here for my partner's birthday. Gutted we didn't make the journey as we got stuck in snow. I really thought we would be spending the night in the car. I phoned up to cancel as it wasn't possible to carry on. I was greeted by a lovely polite lady who offered help and assistance. Thank you!

Lovely hotel. Warm and welcoming both to us and our two dogs. Exceptional staff throughout the hotel. Breakfasts beautifully cooked and presented. Festive afternoon tea delicious with mulled wine. Will definitely return.

AVOID at all costs: - Breakfast was very poor: everything seemed microwaved rather than freshly made - Room was clearly not what is shown in the pictures, and had no views (or actually, views to a parking... I presume you can have views if select better rooms, but to be clear the lower-cost ones do not) - Room was rather dirty - Swimming pool is tiny and facilities were dirty And not to say: They charged us an extra night and refused to refund it. Waiters are very nice, that I must say.

Oh my goodness, we had a dog friendly room overlooking the fells, which despite the weather was still spectacular. The food was amazing, it was a treat for the family as I reached a mile stone birthday. I have stayed in many dog friendly places, and this was more than that, a goody bag for the dog on arrival which really was wonderful, my dog is part of my family and the welcome for him was brilliant. The staff were efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. I will be back, hotels like this are rare a true gem.

Stayed there with my wife for her birthday this weekend sat and sun, the room was lovely with a stunning view to wake up to. Great spot upon the hill right in between bowness and windermere. We ate in the resteraunt on the Saturday night and the food was spot on. The breakfast had everything you could possibly want and was very nice. All of the staff were excellent and helped with all that we needed. We will definately be going back.

We visited the Hillthwaite for a child-free weekend to celebrate a big birthday and wedding anniversary. The hotel itself is lovely - very cosy, clean and welcoming with classic decor. Staff were helpful, friendly and polite. The lounge is a great place to sit and enjoy the view. We used the pool and sauna which was an extra treat. We splashed out on an occasion room which was nice and clean with good facilities (tea, coffee, water, fridge) a decent bathroom and shower but wasn’t particularly special when compared to cheaper rooms we’ve stayed in at other hotels - just seems like it’s bigger than the other rooms there. It did have a fantastic view of the lake though which made it feel more worth it. Bed was comfortable but the pillows spoilt my sleep each night, even the ‘soft’ one was so hard that my ears kept going numb. Some coat hooks would have been useful so we didn’t have to drape our wet coats over the furniture. We didn’t eat dinner as there were so many restaurants nearby to choose from (I can recommend Tapios, The Flying Pig and Porto) but breakfast was excellent - best porridge I’ve ever tasted! One thing I will say, is that wanting to celebrate our occasion in an occasion room with a bottle of fizz, we had to pay to use an ice bucket and glasses. Only a small amount but I’ve never known a hotel to charge for that and it felt a bit mean-spirited. Location is also great, right in between Windermere and Bowness in easy walking distance if you’re ok with some hills. It’s easy enough to get a taxi if not, one to Bowness promenade was easily booked through Uber local cab and cost us £7. Reception would be happy to book one for you too if needed. Overall, a really lovely hotel and we would definitely return - most of the negative points are really just nitpicking because we spent much more than we normally would on a hotel room so expected a lot!

Not one to leave reviews but I had to for this visit. We had the family room and to our surprise it was a little apartment which was perfect for an active toddler. The children’s bedroom had a little duck on the bed which my daughter absolutely loved and quickly called it “her room”. Customer service: from check-in, dinning, check-out. I have no words. So helpful, very knowledgeable, adaptable and brilliant with children. Hotel- clean, cosy and relaxing. I like the booking system for using the pool. Food- I’m still drooling over the lamb. Classy, flavourful and vibrant. Bedrooms- very clean and comfortable. Felt like home. Area- quiet, perfect location for walking into town or some hiking spots. Ample of parking. My husband had a lovely birthday trip. 2 nights wasn’t enough for us and we will be back for sure. Thank you to all the staff from the lovely South African receptionist, bubbly and attentive bar manager (I believe), lovely restaurant ladies and gents. I can’t fault you all Keep up with the brilliant service👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

We enjoyed a wonderful time at the hotel. The reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly as were the other team members. The food was amazing with fantastic service. The hotel has a swimming pool for guest use which was relaxing and peaceful. Our room, as with the hotel was immaculately clean. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The overall appearance of the hotel provides a relaxing and calming environment. We would recommend this hotel and wouldn’t hesitate returning in the future.

This is one of the best hotels we have stayed in for a while. It's a warm, cosy and spotlessly clean hotel. With good food and a well stocked bar. The location is spot on and views amazing. Above all else every member of staff goes above and beyond to deliver excellent customer service. Highly recommended and we will be back! Ps we had Room 16 it's just outstanding.
