This is the third time I have visited this hotel. It is well worth the visit. 5* treatment at 3* prices. The rooms are clean and the beds wonderfully comfortable. The view from the location is amazing whether winter or summer. The menu is varied, creative and delicious. But what makes me come back here is the team. Wonderful staff who really go out of their way to make your trip special. I was sorry to miss seeing Julian and Florian(s!) this trip, but delighted to get the most excellent service from Ivan, Mintu, Santa, Claire, Louise, along with Jackie and Elaine in reception and all those I haven’t remembered to name and the unseen staff that make a difference - the kitchen staff, the housekeepers, groundsmen… etc etc. I cannot forget to mention Matt too, who pitches in with others and cares about his staff… this is a happy team who work together well and that is down to good management and good staff. Happy staff makes happy customers. The policy at the hotel is to keep covid safety measures in place to refuse the risk of covid spreading - mask wearing requested, time slots for mealtimes, room service on “as requested” basis… all these things added to my feeling of safety and comfort. Those who chose not to wear masks were not made to feel uncomfortable either, but there are clear signs requesting it and hand gel available everywhere. From the first time I nervously visited last June I have always been made to feel comfortable and safe — an absolute essential as a lone, female & disabled traveller. I have particular requests for medical reasons which are dealt with discreetly and without question. For this I am so grateful. It was my first solo adventure last year, circumstances forcing me to be on my own now and Hillthwaite have made it special and memorable. For as long as I can afford to, I will always go back. And I haven’t even mentioned yet what a fantastic base it is for anywhere in the the Lake District. You will not be disappointed at Hillthwaite.

Our third visit, as lovely as ever. Great service and excellent food make this a wonderful place to stay. Facilities include a delightful lounge with views over Lake Windermere and of the surrounding mountains and a quiet pool (still open) and sauna (currently closed for Covid reasons). Good infection control made us feel very safe,

We stayed over the weekend as a belated anniversary treat after searching for dog friendly accommodation. We couldn't have found a better place to stay. We were booked in for an evening meal on the Friday night but due to motorway closures took longer than anticipated to get there. I called ahead to explain and we were given the menu over the phone to pre book our choices so the kitchen could have our meal ready for our arrival. Such a good start before we even got there! The meal was delicious and all the staff were so friendly and helpful and just couldn't do enough for you. We ate in the bar area due to us having our dog with us, this is such a lovely and comfortable setting to enjoy a meal too. Finally in our room, which was warm and inviting with lovely fresh clean decor, we were delighted with the fact that we had been left a bottle of wine, a lovely card wishing us a happy anniversary and even a goodie treat bag for our dog Pebbles. Breakfast again was served in the bar and we had so much choice from croissants, cereal, fruit yogurt and juices plus full English or other delightful selections such as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs-there was just so much to choose! The views from that area are fantastic too, snow covered hills and you can even see the lake! The reception booked a dog friendly taxi for us to take us into Windermere (hubby has a dodgy knee so it was easier) and we spent the day mooching around the shops and stopped at a couple of bars for a few drinks before heading back for our evening meal. It was a shame we only had 2 nights stay and I would definitely recommend this place and would love to visit here again.

I have stayed at the Hillthwaite a number of times , the most recent being 8th Jan. I stayed with my wife and 5yr old daughter. Every stay has been exceptional. The hotel is immaculate. The staff are very attentive. We always stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. My daughter has a nut allergy this is never an issue the hotel can comfortably cater for her. In fact Matt the Manager was very reassuring letting us know what she could and couldn’t have without us constantly asking. The food here is definitely restaurant quality. Always delicious and presented beautifully. The two ladies in the restaurant are a credit to the hotel very friendly yet professional. If you are visiting Windermere, don’t hesitate to book here you will not be disappointed. Thanks for another great stay and we can’t wait to see you again soon.

This is the second time we have stayed here and it was every bit as good as previously. The food was delicious and varied, the staff were friendly and efficient and the rooms are out of this world (we stayed in 210 Langdale) Sitting next to the log burner with a mulled wine, a mince pie and an excellent Christmas playlist was perfection. Thankyou to all the hardworking staff who continue to deliver such an excellent experience.
