At first glance a lovely old terrace property with good connections and amenities. Once you scratch below the surface unfortunately you find a shoddily maintained building (there were wasps living in the walls - this didn’t bother me but I’d imagine people with children or pets or who just don’t get along with wasps might be aghast) with appliances on their last legs, heating that is on all day at temperatures that would take the skin off your arm if you get within a few inches of the radiators but then off all night, windows that can’t be secured on the upper floors to make them safe (low sills mean a child could easily get to the window) and a general poor condition throughout. It didn’t spoil our trip as this was a family get together for reasons more than just a break but considering how it is marketed it will probably be a letdown for some visitors.…
Booked this for my daughters wedding. Due to Corona 19 we have had to reschedule to March 2021. Cumbria Cottages and the landlord were un willing to move the booking from September 20 to March 21 even though it was still available. I was willing to pay the same amount even though cheaper in March but the landlord would not budge. Everyone else who we made bookings for the wedding have willingly moved dates with no problem during this period. Very disappointed. I have now asked for booking to be cancelled and lost deposit.
Perfect headquarters for a large family gathering. Short stroll to Booths supermarket and Windermere, and some amazing scenery and walking within a short drive. Warm and well equipped, this has been a perfect visit... Thank you!
Lovely clean big house, suitable for all our family. In walking distance of shops, pubs cafes etc. 1 minute walk from the bus & train station & Taxi rank. 20-30 mins walk to Bowness. 10 min drive to Ambleside. Lots of lovely walks around. The dining room would seat 16 people, the lounge a similar amount. All the rooms were lovely. There were also board games & DVDs at the house & salt, pepper, vinegar at the house plenty of plates & cups etc. Cleaning products, hoover, iron & ironing board. Two under the counter fridges & a fridge freezer american style one in the utility. There is also a cool box there & ice blocks in the freezer too. We didn't have any issues regarding parking & all the houses were full. We didn't hear any of the neighbour's & we slept with the windows open. You couldn't hear between rooms either. We were very impressed with the house & are looking to go back there again next year. We went to Grizedale & Whinlatter forest biking. Got a walkers ticket in bowness which was a boat to Ambleside from Ambleside to Rayrigg Castle, the we walked from there to Ferrybridge & got a boat back to Bowness. We went to Hayes Garden Centre in Ambleside, the Cinema in Bowness, Beatrix Potter in Bowness, Brockhole Tree Top Nets, which was booked in error but was really fun for adults & children. Also at Brockhole is tree top trek, Brockhjole is in Windemere about a 5 minute drive from the house. We went cannoeing at Portinscale a 40 minute drive from Windermere, it's a quieter lake with an island you can canoe to & have lunch on. We also did a few other walks & a treasure trail map which you can buy online for any area in the UK, which was really fun too.…
Just returned from a lovely Monday to Friday stay at Boston House. The house is beautiful and a really good size, even with 14 staying it didn't feel too crowded. The location of the house is fantastic with the town of Windermere on the doorstep and lovely cafes, bars, restaurants and shops. Bowness-on- Windermere is just a short 25/30 minute walk and a nice way to spend a day too. Boston House is well equipped with everything you would need including little extras that were very helpful eg basic kitchen supplies (salt, pepper, tea, coffee, cleaning materials etc). The ground floor has a lovely big kitchen with a large island with seating and standing room making it a great sociable space. The living room and dining room comfortably seat a party of 14/15 too. All 7 bedrooms are a good size with 5 en-suite and 2 additional bathrooms. The cinema room was a nice bonus too. The house also has parking for 6 cars which was great for our large party. Boston House was a perfect choice for our family reunion. …
