Travelers' Choice
At the heart of Gilpin is a very passionate family and team, dedicated to creating lasting memories for their guests, who return time and again for celebrations and escapes. Warmth and friendliness are balanced with extraordinary service, exquisite décor and stunning culinary experiences. This five star hotel comprises two separate estates in the beautiful Lake District, with a luxury country house on each. At Gilpin Hotel all of the 25 bedrooms have lovely Lakeland views, most leading directly onto the gardens - including six Garden Suites with their own cedarwood hot tubs, and five fabulous detached Spa Lodges. The Spa Lodges were added in 2016, and are cedar-clad with king size beds, gorgeous bathrooms and a fabulously private en-suite spa each, with a convertible treatment area, steam room, rain maker shower, free standing oval stone bath, outdoor sauna and hydrotherapy hot tub surrounded by a walled garden. Add this to the mood lighting, fires, electric blinds and a state-of-the-art music system, and all of the senses are invigorated. Just a mile away at Gilpin Lake House, six gorgeous rooms share a fully staffed boutique hotel with a heated indoor swimming pool (for Lake House guests only), outdoor hot tubs and saunas, and exclusive access to 100 acres of grounds with a stunningly beautiful private lake. Our chauffeurs bring you to the hotel in the evening to dine. Dine in either the Michelin starred main restaurant, 'Hrishi', where Hrishikesh Desai combines great Lake District produce and classic methods to deliver unbelievable textures and flavours with just a twist of Asia, or in 'Gilpin Spice' a new informal restaurant transcending international boundaries, with an open kitchen focussing on dishes from the spice trail spanning the Indian sub-continent, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan and China.

We stayed as a treat for my birthday. The staff were all very friendly and the little extras, such as the birthday card in my room on arrival and a special desert chocolate plate in the restaurant, were really thoughtful gestures. We dined at Gilpin Spice restaurant...the food was amazing with plenty to choose from. We had treatments booked and the staff were very accommodating towards my health condition making it a relaxing time. We only stayed 1 night but felt so relaxed when leaving...we had the best time.

Beautiful location, lovely rooms, very friendly and attentive staff, the list could go on. We were made to feel very welcome from the very start. The food in both restaurants was great and the staff were particularly accommodating to the fact that we had children with us and suggested alternative meal options. This is rarely the case with Michelin starred restaurants. We will definitely be back!

Although we’re regular visitors to Gilpin Hotel, this is the first time we’ve stayed at Christmas for a few years and we were thrilled to find it’s just as magical as ever. 🎄🎅🏻☃️❄️ We were in a Spa Suite for 4 nights (they are truly amazing - definitely put a stay in one on your to-do list - you will not want to leave) and we enjoyed every second of our stay. The Christmas package that Gilpin Hotel puts together is just fabulous - we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. Thanks to the Chefs who put together amazing culinary delights throughout our stay - the food was utterly superb. We loved seeing our Gilpin family - we were warmly and expertly looked after by Sarah Redmayne, Richard, Conor and Danny. ❤️ A huge thanks to each and every member of staff who looked after us during our stay, you worked tirelessly to ensure everyone was having a magical experience and we truly appreciate it. There was a really fab house party atmosphere the whole time & we met some lovely couples. We loved seeing the Alpacas & Llamas through the Lounge & Bedroom windows 🦙 - we also saw deer bobbing past. 🦌 One of our favourite things to do is sit in the hot tub early morning listening to the amazing dawn chorus including the twit twoo-ing of the Owls before they retire for the day. We made great use of all the Spa facilities the suite has to offer and always feel totally revitalised after we’ve been pampered here. We’ve already booked our next two stays because we always need to know we have a Gilpin fix on the horizon. Without doubt this is our favourite hotel in the UK. ❤️

Our second visit to stay at the gilpin and we were not disappointed. This time is was a special anniversary a we booked a spa suite. From the moment we arrived until we checked out we had a wonderful time. The service is impeccable and warm; the suite was superb. We had Duddon and loved it.

This was my second stay at The Gilpin. Unfortunately I will not return. We were a group of three mid forties couples staying for our annual gourmet weekend away. Our previous tri[s have included Tom Kerridge's Hand and Flowers and Moor Hall in Lancashire so we know what good food and service should be like. The Gilpin experience was let down by numerous little details which, when added together, really spoiled our trip. We stayed a Friday and Saturday night in 'budget' rooms in the main building. The rooms themselves are pretty good, although they have been 90% renovated rather than fully renovated. The dated gold light switches and electric sockets and poor showers detracted from bueatiful interiors and furnishings. The first night we dined at the Gilpin Spice. The food itself was pretty good (if you like shared plates - fortunately we did!) Unfortunately we were put in sort of bare side room. It may have been that there were no tables for six in the main restaurant or maybe we looked rowdy, but we missed out on the beautiful decor of the Gilpin Spice open kitchen restaurant. In fact we didn't even know there was an open kitchen that 80% of diners sit around until the following day! It may have been Covid rules, but either way it was completely lacking in any atmosphere whatsoever. Breakfast the following day was excellent and leisurely. We spent a nice day in Bo'ness, going on a steam powered boat, visiting the boat museum and watching the rugby in the pub - all recommended. We were booked into Hrishi for the evening meal and we chose the taster menu, with wine paring. Drinks in the beautiful lounge were excellent ands plentiful. Fast class service. The meal came and went with little pizzaz. The food was dull, underseasoned and luke warm, at times. Service was OK but way away from what you would expect in a Michelin 1 star restaurant. The poor sommelier was on his first week, had not tasted any of the food on the menu (his admission) and knew nothing about the wines and why they had been paired with each dish which was a shame. Not even knowing the year the wine was made - come on! As the organiser of the trip I was frustrated with the food, service and overall experience, so I emailed them after our meal on the Saturday night. The following morning was genuinely embarrasing as one member of staff after another came along to discuss my issues with the previous nights meal. I kept on being dragged away from my tasty breakfast to be talked at by another member of staff. Eventually the manager came along and talked at me for a while in the lounge, while my fellow guests looked on with bemusement from the dining room. Eventually I was allowed to finish off my breakfast, by which time it was time to depart. Unfortunately my checkout was delayed as staff one by one looked at my booking/email/profile on the computer, to the point that my friends left to go back to London and I was left sitting awkwardly in the reception as newly arriving guests were trying to check in. I paid and left. I was promised numerous times that I would get a follow up email from teh manager after they had waited to get comment from Hrishikesh Desai the celebrity chef (who wasn't there all weekend), but after sending three emails, without response, I gave up. The Gilpin says that it is looking to add a second Michelin star. If I was the Michelin inspector I would be docking it of it's first with immediate effect.
