We stayed 3 nights in atrocious weather at this hotel. When we booked, we asked for a room with a bath. On arrival we were upgraded to a 'superior' room (No 28) at the far left-hand end of the hotel- not good for disabled people as various steps/stairs to negotiate. The hotel staff were mostly from EEC, very cheerful and... More

A pleasant hotel away from the crowds of Bowness but still affected by heavy passing traffic. The rooms are quite basic and those with 'views of the lake' are correct in theory but far from spectacular in reality. Food and servuce both pretty good.

Great Hotel. Lovely position peering out over Windermere it self. Bus & Train stations within 5 min walk and busses run everywhere !!! Approx 20/ 30 min walk down to Bowness on the Lakeside where you board ferrys and boat trips galore. ( Ice cream in the vicinity very moreish too!) Hotel itself has a certain Olde Worlde charm but... Sitting high up with a commanding view of the small town the Windermere Hotel was the first hotel built in the area in 1847 and is a listed building and well worth protecting. From photos it will be seen that this is a large and grand structure and the outside appearance is typical of such magnificent buildings from this era.... More

Victorian-era hotels have a maze of steps and fire doors through which you need to heave and drag your suitcases - this place has the greatest obstacle course we've ever encountered, getting to the second floor. Once inside our room, we were greeted by a booger (an actual piece of what was clearly snot) on the bathroom wall. The shower's... More

Booked in for one night while visiting Windermere. Room smelled musty, damp patches on walls, mould growth on shower curtain, enamel chipped on bath, smoke detector missing. extractor fan and towel rail in bathroom did not work dispite being told they come on a few hours a day. Went to restaurant for dinner but staff got confused over payment, we... More

Ignoring a negative report a few years ago from friends, we have just had a great weekend at this Hotel. Our first walk out was down the side roads to the lake shore through the trees . Our room 225 and most of the place seemed to have been refurbished . Only gripe small bathroom, sitting on the toilet involved... More
