This is the place to stay in Ambleside if you are looking for the cleanest rooms, the comfiest beds, the best breakfast and the location not forgetting the friendliest of hosts. Just outside of Ambleside itself, you can walk into the town over the little bridge and across the park, approx 30 minutes or a few minutes drive. Nowhere better.

Thank you so much for your kind review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us at Foxghyll. Just to clarify to anyone else reading this review. We are situated 0.9 miles walking distance from central Ambleside (Zefferellis Cinema). [Along Under Loughrigg road, over bridge through Rothay Park]. I would personally say this is between 10-15 minutes... More

We are repeat visitors to FoxGhyll Guesthouse from 12 months ago from Australia. This visit we had our elderly parents with us - and again it was the most wonderful place to stay. Paul is just such a pleasure and willing to provide any assistance with what is on and where in the Lakes. Our rooms were just wonderful. We... More

Just visited this great B and B in Ambleside. Great stay and a wonderful house! Beautiful and private grounds to have a walk around and overlooking the river and just a short walk from the town. The room was perfect with a newly fitted ensuite. Breakfast was everything you want and plenty of it, very tasty. I'll be going back!

My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night, bed and breakfast and we really enjoyed our stay. The place had a lot of character and the room was beautifully decorated with a large modern bathroom, which exceeded our expectations! Very friendly owner, we were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. The breakfast was lovely too-... More

An abrupt right turn off the A591 from Keswick leads you over a humpback bridge and on to Under Loughrhigg. The Foxghyll appears . It's in a wonderful setting along the River Rothay - about a mile walk into Ambleside or half that to the Badger Bar in Rydal. We found a charming Grade 2 building with very comfortable appointments.... More

There is lots to do if you enjoy the outdoors- walking, kayaking etc. Eveing meals can be found within walking distance in Ambleside and at... More

We have been visiting Fox Ghyll for over 20 years, usually about once a year and we have never been disappointed. The house has been owned by the same family for all of this time, first by the mother of the current proprietor and now by her son Paul. The accommodation is of a high standard and is sympathetically furnished... More

This is a truly charming, welcoming and friendly B&B. From the moment you arrive until you leave you are made to feel more like visiting family than just a guest. Nothing has been overlooked, from wine glasses and a corkscrew in the rooms to torches, brollies and hats for guests to use in the lobby. The decor is charming and... More

What a beautiful and atmospheric place to stay. The house is historic and unusual, full of interesting features from ornate cornices to stained glass windows on the landing leading onto the guest rooms. It is at the same time extremely welcoming and comfortable, with very generously-proportioned rooms and the kind of beds that mean you have a really delicious night's... More
