Had the warmest of welcomes when we arrived, the staff were absolutely lovely and extremely accommodating. The room and bathroom were spacious and included everything we could have needed. The bar was cosy, had very interesting features and two lovely fires. Breakfast was well cooked with plenty of options, and the waitress was very polite and attentive. Lovely hotel in... More

Great staff, great food. We had the Bluebell room situated in the cottage in the grounds. Not as luxurious as the main hotel but comfortable enough when you have a dog in tow. Great festive atmosphere in the Badger Bar. Walkable into Ambleside and some nice walks over to Grasmere

Just back from our second stay and the Glen Rothay and it was just as good if not better than our first, mainly because this time we took our dog Skylar with us and this truly is a dog friendly place to stay, OK so we couldn't eat in the dinning room but we were just aswell looked after in... We stayed at the Glen Rothay for 3 nights at the end of January. The weather was atrocious, but that wasn't anyone's fault. We stayed in 'Otter' room, which is in a separate building. The heating was on and the owners had also provided an extra heater to ensure our comfort. Otter has a double and single room (so sleeps... More

I have just stayed in the Glen Rothay hotel with a party of 6 walkers, and would highly recommend it. It is one of the few centrally located, reasonably priced, hotels that can now accommodate a large group in twin rooms, as it seems that most of the other hotels have now converted all their rooms to doubles. The Badger... More

The hotel is in a great location, with the attached Badger Bar for food and drink too. Bedroom was clean and nicely decorated, with all the amenities you would expect. Staff were very friendly in the hotel and the bar. Breakfast was plentiful, we had no issues during our stay. I would definitely frequent this hotel again, as it's also... More

"Wow".... to put it simply. Beautiful hotel with old charm. My husband had treated me to an overnight stay for my birthday. We stayed in the Rydal suite and it was simply beautiful. The bed was so comfortable so sleep came easily. The bathroom was huge and was very welcoming after a long day. The breakfast was superb and the... More

Only just got round to writing this review. Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Food was spot on in Badger Bar but breakfast was poor, defiantly not Cumberland sausage. View and walks a stone throw away, beautiful. Rooms need a bit of TLC, broken tile on floor in bathroom and not finished off to high standard. Fantastic room size though.

Another lovely stay (our third!), albeit short, last Sunday - as ever we came away feeling very pampered and refreshed! We both agree that our favorite spot is sitting in the cosy dining room, by the fire, with the papers, excellent beer (beautifully kept) and a nice bottle of red, and with no formality - this room has a wonderfully...
