The rooms are very comfortable - spacious and well-equipped without being grand. The rooms with garden views are the best in our opinion - especially when you can watch the ducks! The food is sensational - local produce beautifully and inventively prepared.

Excellent reception, friendly and helpful, welcoming. Room very clean with all necessary requirements. All food cooked to order. Very tasty and beautifully served. A modern approach which might not satisfy a larger person used to meat, potatoes and two vegetables. Delicate flavours which were carefully assembled left us happy and fulfilled. Coffee was excellent and there were no hidden extras... More

Many thanks for your review - quite the food critic! Delighted you enjoyed your stay so much and hope to see you back soon. I must argue one point however...don't agree that a 'larger person' would may not be 'satisfied', despite the lack of 'meat & 2 veg' (which went out with the ark in the fine dining world). We... On our way from Scotland to Nottingham, we chose to do an overnight stay at Temple Sowerby House Hotel - located in a quiet village near Penrith. We were made very welcome and found our bedroom very comfortable. The hotel has a long history and was cosy, spotless and with an interesting décor. Dinner in the conservatory was really excellent... Thank you for your review, we are very happy to hear you enjoyed your stay so much. The old nature of the building certainly does give it a very cosy feel, and many guests remark on how they find it to be very comfortable and relaxing. We hope to welcome you back if you do return to the area -... More

Wonderful accommodation in a location well placed for exploring the local area. The breakfasts and evening meals were of a good quality although the latter were not overly generous in terms of size. Owners and staff were friendly too. My only quibble: the offer of a "welcome" cup of tea and shop bought biscuits which added £9.50 to the bill!

Thank you for your review. We are certainly well located - you could go in a different direction each day and enjoy totally different landscapes and the walking is varied and always interesting. I must say that we have never had anyone suggest our portion sizes are too small - rather the opposite! We do aim for a balance over... More

We only called in for morning coffee, but received a very friendly welcome. Lovely coffee and biscuits though rather expesive. The decor was lovely, the hotel having a long history. The gardens were lovely and overlooked by a superb dining- conservatory. Mind your head on low doorways!!

Delighted you enjoyed your short stop and you're right about minding your head, as I know from bitter experience! If only they had thought ahead 300 years ago when they built the house! Regarding the price, I do think that £4.75 for coffee and biscuits is not excessive, given the surroundings, and compared to national brands. More

Looking for a relaxing overnight stop to relax in after a busy day in Carlisle we came across details of Temple Sowerby House Hotel. It had good reviews so we booked a room and dinner. We couldn't have made a better choice. The hotel is pleasantly situated in a small, quiet village close to Penrith. Our room, No 6. was... More

Lovely room, we stayed in the coach house, with beautiful gardens. A very warm welcome and comfortable restaurant. Breakfast choices included traditional regional options like kippers. I'd definitely recommend a visit Thank you for your hospitality. Duncan

This is a lovely Georgian house. The food was excellent and the beds extremely comfortable. We had a breakfast cooked to order in a lovely conservatory overlooking the beautiful walled garden. Wish we could have stayed longer.
