We stopped for 2 nights, I think we were one of the first in the newly refurbished old barn annexe which also has a dining kitchen/open plan living area. Everything in the annexe was a high standard and the owners were very easy to talk to (Anna and Henry) and quite keen to find out if we liked everything. Breakfast...

We were received by the whole family, and offered tea and delicious flapjacks after a long journey from Scotland. The wing of the house we stayed in, Kelly, was very comfortable and fascinating - it is thought it's known as Kelly because it may have quartered an housekeeper of that name in centuries gone by. We were steered to the...

It was a shame we could only stay for one night, without much time to enjoy the estate as it was only a stop of our road trip. I wish we had more time to enjoy the garden, explore and relax. The room was extremely spacious, with really comfortable beds and nice and clean bathroom. The owners are very welcoming...

Wonderful home of a lovely family who work hard to keep this B&B business going alongside their busy lives. Sweet cottage garden attached to our rooms which was useful for the dogs. Beware though, we were invited to have supper which we were pleased to do, and were happy to meet the family and other guests. However £45 for a...

We had a wonderful break from it all at Johnby Hall. No phone or internet. Fabulous. Loved the setting, off the kitchen garden, no traffic, surrounded by sheep and the owners geese. Breakfast was perfect. The bedroom was spacious. The bathroom were fitted in retrospectively into a grade 1 listed building. Lots of features if interest for History buffs, having...

I was not staying there but was planning a trip to the area and the lovely owners willingly hosted me on email request - I have HHA Friends membership. The house has a great story and some wonderful period features like the "squint" and spiral staircase. The owner has plans to restore a number of features including the pond. There...

We were given a very warm welcome including a tea tray. The room, was spacious, actually comprising a self-contained suite - bedroom, lounge and bathroom. We had an evening meal with Henry and Anna. The food was tasty and very good value. The company was excellent. Johnby Hall is a very peaceful spot, the only noise coming from a couple...

We were warmly welcomed by Henry and Anna Howard and given a very spacious and comfortable "suite" in this wonderful house (Wolsey Lodge). Henry cooked an excellent dinner which we shared with them. Excellent breakfast with their home produced sausages and bacon. They were very noble to have us to stay as Cumbria has just experienced the worst ever storm...

My husband and I had 2 nights at Johnby in October and thought it was great. We had a lovely large bedroom that had its own sitting room too. We enjoyed strolling round the property before a great breakfast and enjoyed discovering the pigs and the free range chickens. I would recommend that you book the optional evening dinner. It...

Lovely tree shrouded location and fabulous to have private access to such a historic building. Delightful owners (do follow the invitation to bring your own wine as there is no liquor license). Henry & Anna were excellent hosts (despite probably having to field the same set of questions on the building and family history from countless sets of guests!). Main...
