Returned to Heaves a few times recently - always with a fairly large group for lunch in a private room. It is ideal for this, it's almost like being in someone's home. Though I'm glad I don't have the responsibility of keeping the building decorated and waterproof! The food is reliable, helpings are ample and the veg. is silver service.

Thanks to Miles, Catherine and the team for super hospitality and service this weekend. Seamless and so welcoming to all the guests. This family run hotel offers robust accomodation in an intriguing and unique building. We live 4 minutes away and are occasional visitors for various local functions. However, this was the first time to stay, first time up the... More

We have stayed here a number of times over the years as part of a group, with a meal in the evening with most staying the night in the hotel. We have always looked forward to our stay here and have always found them to give good service and value. There is something quaint, quirky and creaky about the hotel,... More

We have often eaten here when we have been caravanning near bye but not stayed at the Hotel. It was a pleasure to stay in a room that had character not a small box. The bed was a four poster we had two comfortable arm chairs and table.Very quite the ceilings are high and the walls thick. The breakfast was comprehensive... More

We were unfortunate enough to get stuck in the storms recently experienced in Cumbria. We ended up in our car not being able to move in a any direction. We therefore ended spending Saturday night in the car. On Sunday we tried to get through again but no joy. We went to the Heaves Hotel who despite problems of their... More

The building is old, victorian I think and has many interesting bits. The main dining room is lovely and the library, used as an overflow is fine. The bar is spacious but just okay. The bedrooms on the first floor are large, good windows and all have en-suite. Winter is not very good, the owners are generous and have electric... More

We had the pleasure to stay in this hotel over August long holiday weekend, 2015. People can argue that this is dated property but that's the whole point in keeping it original. The owners and staff left no stone unturned in providing great services. Pros: Big green area; plant nursery; animals in nearby farms (kids loved it); sighting of rabbits... More

I agree with the other reviews that the decor is tired etc. However for our family of 5 it proved a pleasant and great value stay. They accommodated all 5 of us in proper beds in one room and the breakfast, which was very nice, was included. The location is great for exploring the lakes and the views are lovely.... More

I go here once a month with Ladies Dinner Club, I cannot fault them. Yes it needs a little tlc inside and out but I have both stayed here and eaten here on numerous occasions and I am not the type of person to go back time and time again if I was not completely satisfied with the quality and... This is a totally honest review, on the positive & negatives for this hotel. It was pre-booked for my self and fiancée attending an old school mates re-taking of their vows. On arriving the exterior looked very shabby and the entrance to the hotel was covered (taking over) by some sort of climbing plant that I cannot describe. The entrance... More
