Drove into Hawkshead on a Thursday at 730pm expecting little problem finding somewhere to eat ... how wrong we were! All pubs were packed and two hours wait for a table at a few we went into to ask for a table. As we walked out of town towards the parking area we found this little old pub. Hardly anybody inside it other than a few locals. Food was served quickly but not an extensive menu and only two desserts to choose from (neither of which we liked so skipped having one). Nice little areas like the snug and a larger restaurant area behind the bar area made the place feel quirky. The staff were very friendly and made the meal more enjoyable for the banter

Room was lovely only complaint is,if staying with kids, it was very noisy from the bar below and drinkers outside ....I know it's a bar but still there should be a limit on time drinking outside if kids are staying there Food was amazing I had steak and the cooked breakfast no complaints there. Friendly polite and welcoming staff Would come again in the future

First off, the staff although somewhat laid back were very friendly. The building itself is lovely, very clean and in keeping with the wonderful surrounding. Our room was somewhat small, the floor sloped so it felt like we were in a haunted fun house at times, particularly as the bed was on the slope too! There is a good size menu, overpriced for the amount you get but very tasty. The Breakfast menu and buffet was really nice, although a tad cold and the basics of sugar and condiments had been overlooked. Not the best, but far from being the worst!

There were four of us for an evening meal. Two had the beef and ale pie which they found at £14.99 was a tad expensive for what you got. My husband enjoyed his large portion of gammon, tomatoes and chips and I had the pan fried chicken with a cream and mushroom sauce which I also enjoyed. All the meals we had were the same price. It's very small in the dining area and people kept knocking our chairs when they passed but of course it's a very old pub. Although my husband and I enjoyed our meals our friends didn't so I don't think we will be back again. We also didn't feel there was much choice on the menu and the puddings were expensive too. Hawkshead is a small village so no parking on the roads. The car park is expensive though free after 6.00pm.
