I came home from New Zealand for a quick catch up with the family and friends but decided on a spontaneous trip to Hawkshead and stayed at the Queen's Head and it was the absolute best part of the holiday (so far). The staff were exceptional, the layout of the hotel was brilliant and the vibe just couldn't be beaten.... More

The Queens Head is very busy and appears popular. Probably in part due to reviews on here. Unfortunately I was not impressed on my visit. The tables are crammed in to three areas, background music a little loud and food very average and slightly overpriced. The appetisers were ok. Do not order the chicken wings, undercooked and served with a... More

Very comfortable rooms; the meals were excellent with an imaginative menu; all the staff were so helpful and friendly and I can't commend them highly enough. Only slight downside was the WIFI in our room (11) was non existent altho acceptable down in the bar area. The TV reception was also lacking. We brought this to the attention of the... More

I stayed 8 nights. Firstly there is no car park you park in the main village car park and give your number plate to the hotel and you don't pay. You can park next to the hotel to unpack. The village is quiet and quite safe so not a worry. Rooms are clean and have the "usual amenities". No complaints... More

We stayed in the Hawkshead area for one week. We ate here just once. & did not return. The menu gives little choice. Don't choose Risotto. The beef was spoilt because the roast potatoes tasted long kept. Ambience and service good. We were so disappointed and felt the kitchens could do better.

Hawkshead in the Lake District is a tourist honeypot and there is always a danger that it will take visitors for granted. This is certainly true of the Queens Head in that village. Having waited an age for our main course we asked about it. A few minutes later we were told "it is just being plated up". Ten minutes... More

Hello Peter Well you threatened to 'slate us' on social media and you were not bluffing! We agree with you wholeheartedly, if you haven't got the patience to wait between courses, whilst we cook and prepare meals from scratch then the Queens Head during the summer holidays is not for you. We are not one of those places where food... More

Ate a late lunch, there was three of us, all ordered different things. Food arrived quickly, we all enjoyed our meals, tasty and fresh. Lovely place to eat. Staff were friendly. The Cumberland bitter was very nice!

The prettiest place to stay. Jane made us feel very welcome when we booked in. Nich was on duty that night when we ate a very tasty dinner. Afterwards we met heaps of guests and locals at the cosy little bar and had a wonderful time. We miss the place after returning home to Oz.

We were looking for somewhere that served more than just the usual pub staples and the Queens Head fitted the bill. We had the chicken wrapped in pancetta and the chicken and chorizo brioche burgers from the specials menu. Both arrived quickly, were very nicely presented and very tasty. Staff were friendly and attentive (in fact three different members asked... More
