We paid £100 the night before in th Dale Lodge, to pay £115 here was a little too much for what you get. It's a Guest House with no frills (the staff are absolutely lovely) I think it's a b&b and worth £85-90

The room was comfortable and clean. Staff were friendly. Good food. Lovely setting. Good value for money. Well situated for lake district attractions . More suitable for elderly than for children I thought.

Arrived exhausted after a long day's walk on the Coast to Coast path to tea and cake being served in the foyer. Such a wonderful welcome. We were given a ground floor room - Black Sail - also very welcome given how tired we were. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The establishment had a very peaceful, unhurried air... More

This is a truly wonderful place. We stayed for one night when walking the Coast to Coast path as it had been recommended. We are not Quakers but respect their philosophy, beliefs and openness. We arrived hot, tired and very dirty and were immediately welcomed with a complementary trolley service afternoon tea at 4.30pm. We delayed our check-in and took... More

Lovely large room with amazing view on this Quaker charitable organisation. Five mins walk from Grasmere. The guesthouse serves food but we ate in town at the Sarah Arundel (formerly Lewis's) Bistro. Recommended. The Co op next door closes at 10pm and the pharmacy next door was very helpful with my husbands toothache. Good breakfast but the dining room opens... More

We booked this B and B through booking.com which doesn't state that it is a Quaker establishment. I have the utmost respect for people who want to practice their religions but would not of stayed here if I was aware of it. Upon arrival there was an afternoon meeting and we were made to feel as though we were interrupting... More

We have now taken all three sets of grandchildren to Glenthorne and this was the first time that the youngest had been introduced to the Lake District. It is a Quaker establishment to which I had been introduced many years ago when we were looking for somewhere that was sympathetic to young children and within easy reach of interesting walks.... We stayed at Glenthorne Guest House for two nights whilst walking the coast to coast route. The guesthouse is located on the route as you enter Grasmere in a lovely location with excellent views - an oasis of tranquility yet just a 300 yard walk to the bustle of Grasmere. We were given a wonderful welcome and Grace went out... More

Well, this is Grasmere and perhaps the price is more of a surprise having spent 2 nights in perfectly adequate YHAs. I had single occupancy of a twin, but the room configuration meant that had there been two of us we'd have needed clear rules as to who was allowed to stand up at any one time. The Drying Room... Glenthorne is run as a Quaker establishment but is open to all. Our charitable work depends on a varied use of the guest house during the year and we welcome a rich diversity of guests. We are conveniently located on the "Coast to Coast" path and walking groups regularly use Glenthorne as a base. Individuals and families come to take advantage of the facilities we offer. We have a large car park at the rear of the property, so parking is not an issue. Its location, within 5 minutes walk of the centre of Grasmere village, with open views over the fells makes it an ideal choice for holiday-makers of all ages. ... more   less
