What a truly lovely place to stay. Delightful gardens, comfortable bedroom, absolutely excellent food - breakfast, packed lunch and dinner. The staff were charming and helpful in every way. I will certainly go back.

We stayed a week at this 16th century mansion-turned-hotel owned by the National Trust and leased to HF Holidays. Friendly staff. Exquisite food. Great walking in the fells of Lake District. Views are spectacular. I highly recommend this destination.

Booked a fairly last minute trip to Lakes and came across Monk Coniston; so booked in advance. Travelled from Oxfordshire and we arrived late (11.45pm) but a member of staff was more than happy to wait up for us. Breakfast was excellent on both mornings and the view of the lake from the restaurant is beautiful. We were offered a... More

It seems that this place is mostly there for hosting large groups of middle aged couples on sightseeing tours. That's fine, but it's weird when you are literally the only one in the hotel not part of the group. In fact I wouldn't really describe it as a hotel, more of a tour centre based in a stately home. It... More

We had a wonderful four day break at Monk Coniston with HF holidays! The hotel was a national trust hotel ! The food was first class and all the staff were brilliant! Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The hotel was very clean and could do with upgrading a bit but it was nice and warm in the terrible weather we... More

Stayed 7 nights on an HF guided walking holiday. Absolutely loved the house (owned by the National Trust) - grand public rooms, yet cosy, & lovely views down to Conistonwater. Superbly placed for walking straight from the door (Old Man of Coniston, Wetherlam, Tarn Hows etc) & on bus route from Windermere/Ambleside. Our room was in the old Counting House... More

Stayed here as part of a walking holiday with inclusive meals/packed lunch. Was told my room, on the ground floor of the main building, was smaller than average but was just right for me with comfortable bed, TV (which I never used), bathroom with shower, and kettle. Wide selection of cereals, fruits and 'to-order' hot breakfast items as well as... More
