Was pleasantly surprised. I have not had a meal in the Sun for some time and if I were to go Off some of the reviews below maybe I would have given it a miss! Thankfully I didn't. I chose a simple burger with chips and it didn't disappoint. The presentation was great and the portions Bob on! The trouble... More

This is a lovely old hotel, steeped in the history of Donald Campbell. This was Donald's 'home' whilst he attempted to break the World speed record and lost his life on Coniston water. The hotel carries this history throughout the building. A log fire in the bar, a great range of good beers, a huge conservatory overlooking the town and... More

A nice hotel with friendly staff, however, stayed for 2 nights, no hot water in the room. Strange noises during the night after 11pm, I'm sure it was either laundry time or a noisy boiler. The hotel wouldn't go short of a little renovation. Overall a pleasant stay. I probably wouldn't stay here again and would look for somewhere better.

Not always a good omen when the place is nearly empty early evening but we thought we'd stick with it! Should have stayed with our instincts...my husband had the burger. After a lengthy wait and considering there was no one else waiting for food, it arrived. The bun was soaked in fat from the meat. There was a small pot... More

We chose this hotel above others for a couple of nights stay because the typical menu on their website offered a splendid choice of dishes made from locally sourced produce. Unfortunately the food we were offered was in no way as described.

Excellent pub with very good locally brewed beer. The food was good and the service informal and friendly. A nice sunny garden and some covered tables as well. Great location just outside the busy village.

This place is ok but could be so much better. Location up the hill from the village with lovely views over the valley. The first thing I would do is work on service. Staff inattentive, a bit huffy bordering on rude. 4pm and rooms still being made, laundry strewn around. Rooms are pretty tired, some have been spruced up recently... More

We stopped at this inn after a long hike on the Lake District hills. It is quaint and picturesque. Lots of funny signs over the bar (see photo). Nice array of ales to choose from. Friendly staff. I loved the Red Bull Terrier Ale. Sit outside for the scenery.

Stayed this week at the Sun it's a country house style hotel with an excellent real ale pub which had 8 guest ales on sale, all sampled were kept in good condition. The hotel as others have commented is a little faded but the bedroom furniture is of an Edwardian period and is in keeping with the period of the... More

Stumbled across this place after a walk up coniston old man. Dog friendly and friendly staff. Order food which came quite quick and was well presented. However the portion size for the price wasn't the best value for money. I had a prawn ciabatta and some chips which came to about £10 and the amount of prawns in the ciabatta... More
