My daughter and I are on a mission to have afternoon tea at as many of the nicest lake district hotels as possible. We have sampled a number of establishments who consider themselves to be the creme de la creme, but I can honestly say, The Trout knocks them into a cocked hat! The food and the service were splendid,... More

The room was lovely very spacious and an excellent view of the lake. Avoid the food here. We ate evening meal and breakfast and both were awful. We tried the breakfast the next day ordered to our room as the restaurant area gets really busy, still not good though. Not much parking at this hotel so would recommend anyone to... More

This is a lovely spot by the river and we were fortunate to pay a visit just a week before the floods. It was prophetic that we spend some time talking to staff about the impact of the floods a few years previous. Just hoping things are not as bad and this super hotel is back up and running sooner... Last weekend, 4th to 7th December we were staying at The Trout Hotel in Cockermouth Cumbria. A lovely weekend had been planned, a meal on the Friday night with our daughter and family, a day in Keswick on the Saturday and on Sunday a drive around some of the Lakes. Unfortunately the weather intervened and we spent Saturday and Sunday... More

Can't wait for the Trout to open. So we can go back again. The staff were supereb at looking after their guests when the floods came on the 5th December. All the Duffys including a 4 week baby and 4 year toddler are very grateful for all their help.

We have stayed at the hotel before and used the restaurant as a venue for many family occasions. We had a reservation for last Friday which we couldn't get to because of the weather. The hotel emailed me on the Saturday (the day of the devastating floods) to say that they would hold my deposit for me and put it... More

We loved our stay at the Trout hotel ! The room was very cute and had a view of the river. The receptionist walked us up to the room upon check in which I thought was a nice touch. We ate in the restaurant the night we stayed and had an amazing meal and lots of tasty drinks. The only... More

Three of us visited for lunch. It was very busy but we managed to get a table. We had mains and desserts all of which were very nice. Scampi, sizzling beef and large prawn cocktail with gluten free bread. Desserts were black Forrest trifle, sticky toffee pudding and beautiful gluten free pecan brownie with mascarpone cheese and cherries. If in... More

Had a fabulous afternoon tea today. Best sandwiches I have had lovely little finger rolls! For once we got a proper cake - Victoria sponge. Also. A delight and not robbed for a glass of champers! Well done really enjoyed it.
