We stayed for 4 nights at The Waterwheel and were so pleased that we did! Julie and Nigel could not have been more friendly or helpful and made us feel so welcome. The room was beautiful, clean and the perfect place to relax after a day's walking in and around Ambleside. Some really nice touches like homemade cake and a... More

My husband and I stayed in the Waterwheel guesthouse over the Bank Holiday weekend. Nigel greeted us at the door and took our bags up to our room. The room was immaculate, beautifully decorated with a lovely en-suite. Both Nigel and Julie were fantastic, very warm and friendly and felt this was a home from home. We didn't want to... More

We (my 21 year old daughter and I) enjoyed our two night stay in this beautiful 300 year old historic building. Julie and Nigel are very friendly, welcoming hosts who were very kind; Nigel took our bags up the steep staircase to our room, the Rattleghyll, as well as left extra chocolate cake in the room upon our arrival, and... Great B & B in a historic and quiet location. From the moment you arrive Julie and Nigel make you feel so welcome. They provide all the little extra touches like home made chocolate cake and a wee dram of port. Great breakfast ready to fill you up before all the mountain climbing. Julie gave brilliant directions and I made... More

The bustle of Ambleside falls away in the relaxing entrance to Julie and Nigels special B&B by the water. Our tidy room overlooked the waterwheel next door . Our Garmin GPS found the address and parking provided by the hotel is in the public park nearby with a pass and a short path back. Dodds was recommended for dinner and... More

Great bed and breakfast set in historic centre of Ambleside with free parking nearby. Rooms are well presented and equipped. Breakfast high quality. Hosts have plenty of tips but not at all intrusive.

5 out of 5 yet again from us, we just left this morning - it's everything already said - I didn't see Nigel (maybe he has Sundays off!) but Julie is in the right career - surely born to run a B&B. Pleased to see us, full of local knowledge and help. The little touches make it, the tot of... More

We spent 3 days at the Waterwheel for our Honeymoon. We had a lovely warm welcome from Nigel and Julie. This is gorgeous spot to enjoy the best of what the lakes has to offer. Nigel gave us some great tips on the best current places to eat and drink. The accommodation is excellent and the breakfasts were some of... More
