We spent two nights at The Waterwheel and it simply wasn't enough: the bedrooms are beautiful, the food heavenly and the location perfect. The whole experience is so relaxing and the setting is perfect for exploring the surrounding areas.

We have just enjoyed a great weekend at the Waterwheel. Our lovely room overlooked the river and the waterwheel that the place takes its name from. They have got the balance just right between keeping the historic feel and character of the building and adding the modern comforts of life like flat screen TVs, NOW TV boxes, and free wi-fi.... All of the lovely things we have become accustomed to at The Waterwheel. Freshly baked biscuits in the room waiting on our arrival, decanter of Port, bottled water and local Bath House toiletries. Paul and James were absolutely amazing hosts and made us feel relaxed and at home, the breakfast provided was exceptional and kept us filled all day. We... More

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago for two nights - our first trip away without our three children for a very long time and it was heaven! Right from the start, Paul was there at the roadside to help us find the place and assist with our bags. We loved our room with it's freestanding bath, the homemade... More

Great location, lovely building, hearty breakfast, and great owners who go the extra mile to make their B&B something special. My partner and I stayed here for two night in August and had a wonderful time. The owners were very welcoming and genuine, always up for a friendly chat to make you feel right at home. They clearly enjoy running... More

We could not have asked for more from our recent 5 night stay at the Waterwheel. The rooms are beautiful and filled with all the amenities you would expect as well as many extra little touches (home-baked biscuits, a regularly refilled decanter of port) which made our stay extra comfortable. Paul and James were the perfect hosts. Despite being new... More

We have just spent 3 nights with James & Paul in their lovely guest house. The rooms are beautiful - tastefully decorated with great touches - homemade biscuits made by Paul which were delicious & lovely toiletries. Breakfast was great especially when it was accompanied by Paul's home-made fruit bread - yum yum. James and Paul are extremely friendly helpful... More

We had a fantastic 3 night stay at the Waterwheel! The building is full of character; the room cosy with a very comfortable bed; and a magnificent, relaxing bath - a perfect way to chill after a day of walking. The breakfast is delicious, however the best thing about the Waterwheel is the hospitality offered by the very friendly and... More

Lovely, high-end B&B, in a period cottage, in a quiet but central part of Ambleside, with great hosts in James & Paul, who were welcoming from the start, assisting with bags and (free) car parking. The rooms are nicely appointed, with large bathrooms, and a roll top bath, with quality toiletries. There are tea making facilities, along with biscuits, and... More
