Been using this hotel over the last fifteen years and obviously like it. Suits us as is pet friendly. Things have changed as new owners taken over, not for the better in our opinion but still like it and will return. Love to walk along Elterwater to the Britannia and have lunch and a few beers there. The pub adjoining... More

Booked at the last minute for a short break and was not disappointed with either the hotel or location. Bedroom was clean, spacious and had a wonderful view over the hills. All the staff we met were friendly and very helpful. We ate a lovely meal in the Talbot Bar and the breakfast was hot and plentiful. We had a... More

First the very good points, our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and had good views from both windows. It had everything we needed, including several power points in convenient places. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Our breakfasts were lovely, fresh fruit, good Cumbrian, and wonderful smoked haddock and poached egg. However; when we ate in the Talbot bar... More

Rolled into town, car running on fumes after crossing a mountain pass in monsoon conditions. got petrol found hotel and had a beer. Nestled between a small valley in the hills a couple of miles out of town. we were just passing through and all we needed was food, beer and bed, although we did manage a short walk to... More

Superb break with three springer spaniels. Very welcoming place with the dogs. Good food and friendly bar. Staff very helpful. Have been twice now and will be going again. Fabulous walks from the hotel. Great place next door called Chesters for food and drinks. Try the Brittania Inn for good beers.

A lovely setting, with wonderful walks and wildlife. Very helpful staff, dog friendly hotel, sorry we were only on a stopover on our way to Scotland. Large bedroom, very clean, excellent bathroom with nice toiletries. Drying room for adventurous fell walkers.

Stayed here for one night in a spacious double room in the main hotel. Slightly dated room but spotlessly clean, as was the large bathroom, although this was reflected in the tariff which at £100 for two with a superb breakfast represents great value. We chose this hotel as we were able to bring our mini schnauzer with us, who... More

This is a fine hotel in the old style with a large bar area for walkers, a snug to relax and a sitting room for residents. The restaurant is attractive and the food has variety and is well presented. We started dinner with Mozzarella salad served on a slate followed by roast beef. I would recommend staying on the dinner,... More
