Just spent the weekend here with a group of motor bikers. The owners, David and Cherry, were superb, even reserving parking spaces for us on our return on Saturday. Breakfast is basic but as much as you want and there are plenty of cooking facilities if you want. Rooms could do with more hangers but were clean with comfortable bunks....

Stayed over the bank holiday, staff were friendly. The hostel can only fit 4 cars at any one time so you need to find offroad parking. The location is good, in Ambleside. Tesco's walking distance and a Catholic Church. Lots of eating and drinking places. Bedding doesn't get cleaned just a white sleeping sheet. Bathrooms are outdated. Cereal and toast...

I spent the weekend at the hostel with 18 of my colleagues on a charity challenge and cannot recommend this hostel more highly. I am in my mid 50s and have not stayed in a hostel for 30 years but this was very comfortable. A little short on toilets for what I normally enjoy but otherwise excellent. The hostel owner...

I have just returned from a weekend's stay here for a charity walk with 19 of my friends/colleagues. From booking with David @ Ambleside Backpackers right through to the end of our stay everything was really easy, pleasant and comfortable. The hostel was clean, the rooms were comfy and great value for money. There's a really relaxed and homely atmosphere....

Stayed here with 7 friend's as a base for bight charity walk. Accommodation was just what we needed and all clean. Kitchen facilities were great and staff very helpful. We used the well equipped kitchen and brews were on tap. The lounge was great to relax in and any issues like teabags running out were sorted very promptly. 5 mins...

Just returned having spent 2 nights here with a group of friends, whilst we tackled the Fairfield Horseshoe. Hostel is in a great location, within walking distance to town centre & amenities. Bunk room, shower block, loos & kitchen are kept very clean. The provided breakfast of toast, cereal, tea & coffee is adequate. You can also use the kitchen...

It was a great place for a weekend away with a friend visiting the lakes. The rooms were clean and warm as were the facilities. The breakfast option was sufficient to fill you up for a day in the hills and you could always use the self-serving facilities at the kitchen. The lounge was lovely to relax in the evening...

Its an okay place for one night. Toast and tea are provided, though rules are quite strict (not allowed to bring cups of tea into the room etc). It's in a convenient location, and close to the town which is great for fish and chips! I stayed here with a group of friends before heading off to camp in the...

Loved being here on September 14 and 15 in 1991. I had a bunk room all to myself, and was treated to a scrumptious breakfast each morning. The manager was a very pleasant man who waited for me to arrive as I was late coming to Ambleside and was having a hard time finding accommodation. He came to my rescue!...

We stayed in this hostel for 5 nights as a group of 3 friends on an activities holiday. We just wanted somewhere basic to use as a base for walking/biking around the lakes. The hostel was clean, comfortable and extremely well situated just a few minutes walk from the centre of Ambleside. The hostel was pretty quiet when we were...

“As the hostel runs a dormitory system, the smaller the room size, the less chance of sharing with a snorer.”

“We had the private 2 bed room it was a great option. You could lock the room and make sure you possessions were safe. You didn't have to stay with people you dont know and the sink in the room meant you could stay in the room to clean your teeth. However the shower and toilets are shared but these are clean and functional so this was not a problem. The room has great views and is the same price per person as a dorm bed.”
