The Dower House run by Margaret is excellent. She always greets her guests with a warm welcome and shows you to your room. The house a spacious including a guest lounge and dining room. Breakfast is included and an excellent dinner is available at an extra cost. Margaret is an excellent cook. There are great views of Lake Winderemere from... More

A small hotel but big on service and comfort. The proprietor is Margaret and she gives a very warm and personal welcome. The room with ensuite shower and wc was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Breakfast and dinner were a tower of home cooking and most enjoyable. Evenings were spent in front of an open log fire. All in all... More

This B&B is hidden away just next to Wray Castle and is in a place of outstanding natural beauty and is only a short walk to the lakeside. The en suite room we stayed in was very clean, tastefully furnished and the bed was really comfy which is exactly what is required after a hard days shopping in the lakes... More

We have been travelling in England and Scotland and staying at B&Bs for 2 weeks. They have all been very welcoming and comfortable but Dower House was exceptional thanks to the location and Margaret's hospitality. The location is stunning with beautiful views across a field to Lake Windermere. Being away from the main township provided a peaceful, relaxing and tranquil... More

My husband and I stayed 5 nights at Dower House and enjoyed the peace and beauty of the location. We also had 4 delicious dinners and 5 breakfasts. Our room was spotless, comfortable and had an amazing view of Lake Windermere. If that wasn't enough, Margaret was most helpful in sorting out a problem with my lost handbag. The atmosphere... More

We have been staying at The Dower House for a number of years now and it is excellent. Margaret is very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is good, very clean and cosy. It's lovely to come back to a roaring fire when it's miserable outside. Margaret's evening meals (optional extra) are excellent as are the breakfasts.... More

This lovely house is a traditional British cosy place. I really enjoyed staying there for 2 nights with my friend. The bed is comfortable, the temperature in the room is very good and it's very quiet place so you will have a fantastic night sleep for sure! Bathroom is basic but there is everything you need. The breakfast was in... More

This B&B is hidden away in a beautiful location just next to Wray Castle and its lakeside surroundings but it is worth the trouble to find it. Just back from a long weekend. Dower House is a real gem in the most perfect location. We stayed in the Wansfell room, which has the most magnificent views of Lake Windermere and fells. We took our mountain bikes and you can cycle from the door to the bridlepaths around the lake, claiffe heights and Grisedale forest. Margaret was so... More

Dower House has an excellent location - far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby towns to ensure that the only noises you hear are the birds and sheep in surrounding fields, but only a few miles from Ambleside or Hawkshead if you want to venture out for dinner (by car). It has beautiful views of the... More
