So lovely to come here after a long, wet, frustrating drive down from Scotland. Greeted with a smile and advice about parking and shown to my room up on the second floor, looking over the street. Everything I could possibly have wanted was to hand, including a range of fairtrade teas and coffee and biscuits. The choc under the cushions... More

Fantastic location as it is situated in Ambleside town. There is a Tesco express and a Co op very nearby, along with your pick of restaurants. Windemere lake is also only a mile away, which you can easily access through a 20 minute walk or by bus. The service is excellent. Owner is very kind and will answer any questions... More

You're 2min walk from the centre of Ambleside, and because parking can be a problem in Ambleside... being able to walk everywhere in town from Thorneyfield is very handy. If you do have a car, the owner can provide you with a parking card for the 'free' use of the main carpark at the top of the town. Our bedroom... More

Stayed here when on a walking trip, the place was nice, welcome was warm and the room inviting. I didn't try breakfast as left each morning too early. The bed was ok, the main issue I had was that there was no curtain on a window which meant that the room was light at 4:30am. Would stay again due to... More

This was a relaxing place where I stayed for a week. Alison and Alan really know how to take care of their clients. I also had parcels delivered there in my absence and delivery was not a problem. I was catered for well and would recommend this guest house to anyone visiting Ambleside, it beats staying at hotels ( in... More

Excellent guest house. Very friendly reception from Alison. Also, very close to the centre of town. Very pleasant & comfortable room. Bathroom very small but useable with excellent shower. Spotlessly clean. Excellent Cumbrian breakfast with local ingredients. Nothing was too much trouble for our host Alison. She even supplied a free parking permit to leave the car in an adjoining... Traveling on business and a bit of pleasure arriving on motorbikes was just great. We always worry about security of the bikes but a good space was kindly set aside for us. The rooms were spacious and well equipped with en-suite shower and just when needed a cracking breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and would recommend... More

We stayed for 4 nights in early April at Thorneyfield and must say we were lucky to find a family room in Ambleside during these holidays. It was everything we expected and being centrally located, we had no problems getting around. Alison was a gracious hostess and the room was spacious, cosy, and warm. The welcome hospitality tray in the... More

Hi Guys and thanks for your review. Just a couple of quick comments; sorry about the croissants, but every week we throw away countless croissants because people just don't eat them, so it's tough to judge. On the price, we are actually the cheapest for families in Ambleside and the numerous comments here on value for money bear that out.... More

I stayed at the Thorneyfield for a week (6 March to 12 March 2016) and found the place to be very cosy, like a home from home. The landlady Alison was very welcoming and moved the allocated breakfast time for us to an earlier slot so that we could be on time for our lectures at the nearby Ambleside campus... More
