I stayed here with my partner and 2 young children whilst visiting my Dad. Having read some of the reviews on tripadvisor I wasn't expecting much from the hotel all. Upon arrival we were greeted by a friendly young man who told where our room was. The room was really very clean and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was... More

If all you need is a bed for one night and don't mind traffic noise then this is the budget hotel for you. Our room was clean but extremely basic by modern standards. You can close the 30 year old double glazed windows to shut out the traffic noise but it won't work and the room will then become stifling.... More

The helpfulness of the reception staff was the highlight of our stay at the Gilson Hotel. The room we had faced out to a busy road and it was too noisy to sleep. The bathroom was old, the toilet would only flush sporadically. The white shower curtain was covered in stains.

Poor rooms - the first room I was shown was incredibly noisy, the second had broken window locks with windows that would not close. The third seemed ok at first glance, but had stained sofa and broken furniture. Also, the small carton of milk for tea was curdled and stiff. I wanted to leave the hotel but had to stay... More

Had a one night stay in the Gilson after failing to make a reservation at the Mercure in time. The hotel is fine for the price and is conveniently located for the railway station. Slight delay when checking in as no one was on the reception but eventually got checked in by a really pleasant guy. The room and bathroom... More

I stayed for four nights earlier this year and picked the Gilston because it was near to the station. After a noisy extractor fan outside my window caused me to ask for another room, which was provided without hesitation I spent a comfortable night and had my buffet breakfast in the comfortable dining room served by a helpfully knowledgeable waitress... This must be the cheapest hotel in Hull. People who booked it and then wrote poor reviews must have known how little they were paying in comparison to other hotels in the city so I don't understand why they would then complain. Personally I found it perfectly adequate for a one night stay.Sure it's far from luxurious and definitely needs... More
