The Marquis at Alkham has been on my bucket list for iced a year and finally I have booked to stay and it didn't disappoint, quirky pub / restaurant with individualised rooms. Granby the bull dog soft toy greeted us in our room, to be put outside the door if we are in - made me smile (£25 and I...

We had a de luxe room. It was a good size and the bathroom was close to enormous. The bathroom had underfloor heating that wrapped us in comforting warmth. Unfortunately the heating in the room did not come on until 21.00 despite my reporting it to a member of staff. The only radiator in the room is badly sited so...

We had a great stay and evening at the Marquis and would recommend it to anybody visiting the area. Food and wine excellent and accommodation premier class. The owners have their own vineyard so try the very excellent Chalksole Manor Reserve bubbly.

We had an upgraded room and so enjoyed more space and a larger bathroom, which had a double rain shower and roll top bath. Our room was clean, comfortable and really well presented. The under floor heating, in the bathroom, was pleasant and we both loved the toiletries provided. Having a Nespresso machine in the room is a nice touch....

We initially had a Travel Zoo b b and dinner deal so went there for a birthday. We then had to pay to be upgraded to a deluxe room as it was Twixmas week. We were close to home so 3 family members were able to join us for dinner. As we were changing the parameters we could not have...

A 2 night stay without our kids. Lovely food, peaceful setting / hotel. Rooms not "perfect" but individually designed, well equipped and staff all polite and friendly. (The odd light bulb not working, toiley door doesn't latch closed). We would definately return.

Returning to the Marquis for our anniversary having married there two years ago, was always going to be special and the food did not disappoint in anyway! We had the 7 course tasting menu with accompanying wines which opened with a delicious amuse bouche which clearly set the tone. Particular highlights were the carrot and ash goats cheese, (replaced the...

Arrived a few days ago to spend a night here on our way around England. It had presented well and we felt confident in our choice. Check-in, whilst a little rushed (there were many in the restaurant for lunch) was ok and we were shown to our room. Room was good but cleanliness was not of the standard expected. We...

We booked a deluxe room with king size bed, sofa, seating area and patio to find we were accommodated in a room for someone else which was inferior to that expected! On arrival the receptionist started to take us to our room, turned round and then checked the computer. She then took us to a room that had a bath...

This boutique hotel is located in the beautiful Alkham Valley near Dover. Provides fine dining at sensible price and offers well appointed rooms. We have stayed here many times and it never disappoints.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Come on in. Take a look around. You might just be surprised. For while the Alkham Valley, indeed Alkham village itself, suggests genteel old England at its most rural and unspoiled, the Marquis itself is something else... It's a strikingly contemporary restaurant and hotel. The product of a major renovation in 2008, what was once the village's pub, The Marquis of Granby, has been utterly transformed. Space, light, fine furnishings and beautiful fabrics and the opportunity to fine tune every detail hasn't been missed. The restaurant is a revelation. Head Chef Andrew King's seasonally inspired and locally sourced menus are as fresh as they are imaginative, and the elegant 21st century styling is exceptional. Queen sized pocket sprung beds are swathed in the finest cotton. Sumptuous fabrics dress windows and chairs. And an eclectic collection of art completes the mood, the mix and the personality that makes this place unique. Boutique chic in the heart of the English countryside? You've found it. You've arrived. ... more   less
