Had a wonderful stay at the Black Horse Inn. Located in a very central and peaceful area with well organised and instructed guide for self-check in and check out. Breakfast was included in the room price and you could choose between continental and freshly made English breakfast. Amazing service and friendly staff. Will definitely recommend, especially to females looking for a safe place to stay in Canterbury city centre.

My wife and I booked the hotel only a couple of days prior to travelling. We had a long journey from Cumbria to Canterbury and arrived well before the anticipated time of arrival, however this wasn't a problem as the room was ready for us and we were shown immediately to our room. The hostess was very pleasant and during our stay very helpful with arranging taxis, suggesting things to do and places to eat. The room we stayed in (#9) led directly onto the garden which was very quiet and peaceful. The room is fairly basic, but has all you need for a short break and the beds are very comfortable. During our 3 night stay the staff never entered our room to change towels, empty bins etc. We presume this was due to covid restrictions, however we were able to replenish toilet rolls and toiletries by asking which was of little inconvenience. The breakfast was basic but adequate to our requirements, but I suspect more fussy eaters may have issues. The decor and furnishings could benefit from updating, but everything was clean and well presented so no real issues. There is no on street parking, but there is a secure multi story car park nearby which is reasonably priced. Would we stay at The Black Horse Inn again??? Yes we would. It is well situated for a good selection of excellent restaurants, a short walk from the town centre and the staff are very helpful. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I was booked into this hotel for a work event but it would not have been my choice. The building has some charm as a series of terraced houses joined together but this means it is mainly low ceilings, uneven floors and many stairs. I was in a tiny room in the basement with very little room to move. It was noisy from the street and also from other rooms - every time someone ran a tap, has a shower or flushed the loo there was a torrent of water. I couldn’t turn the radiator off and because there is no-one on duty out of hours I couldn’t do anything about it. Also strong cooking smells from the kitchen. The manager was pleasant enough but hardly ever on duty. Location is close to Canterbury W station but I could not have lasted more than one night cooped up in a tiny, over-heated room with very little natural light.

Absolutely enchanted by our stay at this romantic gem in Canterbury. From the moment we arrived, we were swept away by the charm and elegance of the place. The ambiance perfectly captures the historical beauty of the city, making it an ideal retreat for couples.

The rooms are exquisitely decorated, blending modern comfort with classic touches that make you feel like you've stepped back in time. Each detail, from the plush bedding to the intricate decor, is designed to offer a luxurious and intimate experience.

The staff were incredibly attentive and made us feel truly special, adding to the overall magical atmosphere. We enjoyed delightful breakfasts and serene evenings by the fireplace, all while being just a stone's throw away from Canterbury's main attractions.

Staying here isn't just about having a place to sleep; it's about experiencing the essence of Canterbury in the most romantic way possible. Highly recommended for anyone looking to create unforgettable memories. This hotel deserves the highest praise and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Very well appointed, comfortable and easy short walk from the station and the historic centre.
Booking was simple, email instructions were very good and made our late arrival and access to our room very easy.
Breakfast was cooked fresh to order and staff were very friendly.
Couldn’t fault it for comfort and character and will be recommending it to friends.

The room itself was small but clean - micro toilet but a decent shower. The hotels apparently has nice rooms at the back leading to a garden but if you get the ground floor rooms onto the street, such as 11, don’t expect a quiet stay, I appreciate the listed building can’t have double glazing but the roller blind didn’t help muffle any noise. Every footstep, conversation and cars going past can be clearly heard. To add to the non quiet stay, the bedroom door leads onto the breakfast area so I was woken first by the dawn chorus, kids going to school and then the sound of cutlery on the plates! My advice is if you stay here, be prepared for a small room and make sure you are not on the ground floor at the front

A small and very cozy hotel with good and very quiet location in central Canterbury. 10 minutes' walk to Canterbury West train station. Previously there was a pub on the ground floor, but not anymore. The hotel is not staffed around the clock, but detailed instructions on how to check-in, room keys and more are provided by email. We had a nice and functional room upstairs. Breakfast was great, you could mix Full English with Continental. Staff friendly and helpful. WiFi worked perfectly. The hotel is definitely affordable.

We stayed here at the end of August for a last minute break before going back to school and it was just lovely. Canterbury is such a beautiful city to explore and the location of the Black Horse is nicely tucked away down a quiet road yet just a few minutes walk to the busy and bustling centre and there’s a beautiful park nearby with gorgeous countryside walks and views. Yolanda was an incredibly helpful host, friendly and very welcoming. She even went out especially and got vegan milk and butter for my breakfast, which was tasty and set us up for the day as there’s plenty of choice. There were good COVID guidelines in place and we felt safe staying here. There’s a beautiful well kept garden which the guests can use and we had a lovely quiet room overlooking it, we also had a fridge which was a bonus! The accommodation was very comfortable and clean and we really enjoyed our time exploring Canterbury and the coastal areas of Kent. Our only negative about staying here was the parking charges but don’t be put off by it! We found some free parking bays just down the road in Queens Avenue and the residential roads are free after a certain time in the afternoon. It’s certainly good value for money accommodation and an ideal location, I’m happy to recommend!

The Black Horse is an old pub which has expanded into adjacent cottages in a smart side street a short walk from shops and bars. Contactless entry is a great idea. Inside the old bar is retained and is now the breakfast room with varnished floors and wood paneling and must have been a cosy pub in its day as the bar is still in situ and could be restored easily. We had room 1 which had french doors onto the courtyard garden with a fountain and seating. You can park outside payable at a meter but if your smart you can park in Queens drive at the top of the street for 4 hours until 5 pm and after all night for free. The host was very friendly. We asked for breakfast at 9.30 which was no problem. The Black Horse is in a great location , if you walk to the top of the street turn right for the main shops and bars or turn left for more traditional pubs. Overall it was very clean and we will return..

We had a reasonably good stay in the Black Horse. The room was clean and well equipped with good hot water in the bathroom and the building itself is well located for the Canterbury West train station.
The only issue was we were not informed prior to arrival that breakfast was no longer being included in the price despite the booking definitely saying "breakfast included" and the receipt also saying this. Apparently this was "due to Covid" and "the website needs updating" (we booked directly on their own site). It was offered as an extra once we arrived and we declined. At the time it just seemed like an annoyance but if you think about it it's plain false advertising as if the breakfast (which was advertised) is not included then you're not operating a Bed & Breakfast but the equivalent of a hotel. We picked this place because it was a B&B with a good location but as the room wasn't massive had we known the breakfast was extra we may have been more likely to do a bit more searching and find a hotel with a bigger room.
Having said that we did get early check in as we got our arrival time wrong and all the members of staff we had contact with were nice.
