Chose this hotel as recommended and it is a nice hotel combining the old and new and in a great location. Staff are efficient and hotel is clean. However, the bed was the most unconfortable I’ve ever expetienced, so soft we rolled into eachother! Pillows also too soft to offer any support. We could hear every word the people in next room were saying and were woken up by snoring.

Dear Guest Thank you for your feedback, i am disappointed that the genuine care and service from our staff has only allowed you to score us a 2. we are so pleased you had on a whole a good visit, but sorry to hear that your bed felt too soft. Our beds are unlike some of the basic contract beds you will find in other hotels, they have a cushioned Mattress and Spring base, to offer a comfort that replicates floating on clouds. The bed is topped with a soft comforter and goose feather pillows. we do offer as a hotel a choice of pillows on request to meet with allergens and preference on hardness. I am sorry that another guest snoring was so loud you could hear it, again this would be out of the hotel teams control. we thank you for staying with us. Steven

We chose to stay at this well located hotel in the heart of beautiful Canterbury. We were greeted in a really friendly manner, and were pleased to get a space in the tiny car park. Our room was huge, with a stunning modern bathroom. We found the bed to be really comfortable. We love a long, leisurely breakfast when we are away, and we understand that things are now different due to Covid. The menu was literally shoved under our noses the second we sat down, and we were asked what we would like. We asked for a few minutes. Waitress was back instantly. We ordered cereal, followed by some hot food. We had eaten one spoonful of the cereal and the hot breakfast arrived. We asked them to take it away a we were not ready. They appeared with it 3 times during the eating of corn flakes!!!! I eventually said they would now need to freshen up the eggs which they did. It felt very rushed, and totally impersonal. This is one of Canterbury's better hotels, but for us I think we would only visit again if I could take a room only option with no breakfast.

Dear Guest Thank you for your feedback, and for staying with us at Abode Canterbury, we are so pleased you found the bed to be so comfortable to sleep in We are sorry that you felt rushed at breakfast and i have fed this back to the team, we are trying really hard to allocate enough time to serve our guest while the restaurant has been socially distanced to a quarter of its capacity. This does mean that we have to turn our tables a few times each breakfast, also allocate time to sanitise each table and chair after use to ensure that all of our guest can enjoy something to eat. We do hope to return to the more leisurely breakfast service, as soon as we can get over this pandemic and return our restaurant to the seating space it was designed for. we are working and trying really hard to make sure that things are as normal as possible for our guests, but some restrictions from government do not allow for this at the current time. Kind Regards Steven

This was our second visit to the Abode, five years to the day since our last visit. On arrival I was disappointed to hear the hotel no longer had their overflow carpark, which was convenient and secure. It states on the website you cannot reserve parking spaces but on arrival date a space was reserved and when we left two spaces had been reserved! We were given a slip of paper with various public carparks which we could use overnight. I had purchased a brand new car that day and was nervous about leaving it in an unsecured carpark. I did eventually and thankfully it was all okay. We booked a Desirable room direct with the hotel, this allowed us a check out time of 12pm which was nice. The room was clean, a decent size with a superbly comfortable bed. I had a couple gripes - aside from the carpark 1. The 10% service charge on drinks in the hotel bar. There is no option but to be seated and have the staff come to you, I don’t mind giving a tip, but £3.90 on top of a round of drinks costing £30.90 worth of drinks is extreme. Especially if you have more than one round. 2. Charging £2 for a small carton of water in the room. I’ve been to the smallest independent hotels and the largest 5 star, but never had to pay for a bottle of water. 3. They ran out of sausages for the full English breakfast on the Sunday morning! We were offered more bacon or bread pudding but... whilst we had a good nights sleep i’m not sure we will be returning, the Abode is not good value for money.

Dear Guest Thank you for your feedback, we are pleased that you found the room to be of a great standard and the bed to be comfortable. As i am sure you will agree in five years since your last visit some things such as parking may have changed, and we no longer require as many parking spaces as we did due to the great contention with rail into Canterbury. we do offer 26 spaces at the hotel, which normally is adequate, and also have assess to over 300 spaces locally, and very close to the hotel in a secure parking arrangement that is covered by patrols and security cameras. The service charge that is applied to any bill is at the discretion of the guest and can be taken off at any time. Mineral Water from the mini bar is chargeable to guests, the hotel does provide good filtered drinking water in all rooms free of charge. We are sorry that we did run short of sausages, this is not normal and we have a good local supplier who did not fulfil our delivery that morning. we are pleased that the team tried to offer an alternative of extra items. Kind Regards Steven

Great place to eat, drink and stay for a relaxing time. All the staff polite and friendly at the hotel and the service was attentive to make the stay feel extra special. Tip is to book direct as there are little bonuses which you do not get with an agent.
