As the title may indicate, the food was very average and it probably would be better if I'd had a copious amount of drink on me but I don't drink. There was a lot of smoking around me as it was an outside table which probably didn't help the taste. Is there anywhere that you can have food outside there... More

After a recent visit to Ye Old Trip To Jerusalem I thought it was a great opportunity when in St Albans to visit another of the countries reported oldest pubs. It certainly looked the part and was in a lovely setting close to the lake and by the Cathedral. We sat outside for a drink on a nice sunny day... More

It was a hot day and for some mad reason we decided to get a roast dinner. It was the first time my friends had come to st Albans so I decided to take them here. They have a massive beer garden and we were easily able to get a seat even though it did progressively get busier during our... More

My husband and I hadn't been to Ye Old Fighting Cocks for years, despite being frequent visitors to St Albans. My memory was of an atmospheric old Inn with bags of charm, and I expected much of the same on this visit, but we slightly disappointed. We called in on a sunny Saturday lunchtime and found a table inside. There... More

Living close to the "Fighters"' we sometimes drop by on the way home from town for a drink. So today we stopped off but our experience was not to be recommended. In an attempt to kill a large wasp, "Chris" managed to swat the insect in our direction along with the rolled up menu, resulting in depositing the entire contents... More

A busy, bustling venue which must be experienced even for a drink or two. We shared a Greek style platter with home-made bread which we all enjoyed. Good quality food and you are allowed to relax, enjoy and order at your leisure from the varied menu. Very popular so booking might be advised. A warm welcome and enjoyable experience. Not... More

Visitor or local resident, Ye Old Fighting Cocks is a terrific ancient inn steeped in history packed with nooks and crannies. Incredible atmosphere, great food and drinks. Tucked away from the maddening crowds yet in the shadow of the great Abbey.

Have visited several times in recent months. The Sunday lunch is excellent with good service and this is a lovely historic pub to visit for a drink. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Thoroughly recommended.

A friend took us to this pub and we are really glad he did. It has a wonderful atmosphere and was worth the drive from Welwyn Garden city. We would liked to have had the time to visit St. Alban's during the day but time simply ran out..

We booked a table at the Ye Old Fighting Cocks for sunday lunch today and really looked forward to it. First of all we waited a very long time for our food and when it came out they brought the wrong meals out! When we received our meals they clearly had been heated in a microwave, there was very little... More
