Visited here for a get together the evening before a family wedding. Lovely setting but overpriced food and drink, eg. slice of garlic bread £5 (most astonished at this!), kids chicken goujons £10 and a scoop of ice-cream £4. Hubby had pork belly and said it was like eating liquid fat (and he normally loves pork). I had the Caesar... More

Enjoyed my lunch on the terrace. Attentive staff. Delicious food. I had a sandwich with chips and salad which was in expensive. The draught lager was slightly higher in price than the local pubs. Beautiful tended gardens and views of the lake. A simple lunch turned out to be a special day. thank you.

We attended this hotel for a friends wedding. I was aware from the start our room ( lime room) was expensive £160 and we were not sure what to expect . We were not at all disappointed with the room or hotel . Everything about it felt luxurious with the massive bed, super comfy bedding and bed, bathrobes , lots... More

Our third visit in recent years. St Albans is my wife`s home town and her family lived around the corner in Kingsbury Avenue and this charming hotel, family owned for decades, has always been a favourite. It is set in St Michael`s village with the Abbey, Verulanium Park and the Roman remains and museum within walking distance. The family have... More

This hotel has a great terrace leading down to the large lake in the gardens. It is a very comfortable hotel with excellent staff service and wonderfull food in the restaurant . Easy walking distance to the town centre and also the Verulamium park. A great place to stay.

Lovely setting close to town centre but very quiet, views over large gardens and lake. Quality of service and accommodation excellent. Highly recommend for afternoon tea, meals or stays. Bedroom well appointed, very comfortable bed, great shower and bathroom facilities and complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits.

I visited St Michaels with family for mum's birthday for Sunday lunch. The gardens are immaculate and the service and food was outstanding. We have visited this venue many times over the years and it has been a bit hit and miss. Our recent visit was definitely a hit - the beef was cooked to perfection and all staff were... More

This June my wife and I travelled south, to St Albans, for a family wedding. We decided early on to stay at St Michael's Manor hotel, where the wedding and reception was to be held. What a great choice! The hotel is set in the most wonderful grounds, and is situated a few minutes from the historical St Albans city... More

My friends got married here and my husband and I stayed the night of the wedding. The place is a beautiful location for a wedding, the rooms are spacious with very comfortable beds and all the rooms look immaculate. The staff were professional, attentive without intruding, very friendly and happy to help with anything. The food was also delicious! I'll... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This magnificent town-house hotel, set in five acres of beautiful English country gardens with lake, is remarkably close to the city centre. The Newling Ward family converted the 500 year-old building in 1965 and continue to own and run the hotel. The 30 bedrooms are individually styled, with many overlooking the lake and gardens, and the award-winning orangery style restaurant shares the same views. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, cream teas and dinner served in a choice of dining areas. ... more   less
