We stayed just one night in this lovely characterful hotel. The staff were very attentive and therefore the service was excellent, food delicious and room beautiful. The location was so convenient for walking around St Albans and we thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.

Stayed one night and wish it had been a lot longer. Perfectly located within a sort stroll to most points of interest in St Albans the accommodation was spacious, well appointed and very comfortable. Staff went out of their way to make our visit a most enjoyable experience and the food was by far the beast meal we have had...

My friend brought me a voucher for afternoon tea for my birthday at st Michaels manor, we booked it and off we went. The tea room is gorgeous, it's light airy and very clean, the staff are well presented however a bit robotic at times. The afternoon tea was very pleasant and a nice selection of sandwiches, scones and cakes,...

We went for lunch on my husband's 93rd birthday and enjoyed it so much that we took my sister for her 80th birthday 2 weeks later. The fixed price menu was far more adventurous than they usually are, and every dish was exceptional. The bread was delicious...warm and we thought home made, and included in the price, as was the...

We were directed here by a Secret Escapes offer which was well worth the money. The supper was delicious with lovely options and was of a surprisingly high standard. The room we were in (Beech) was lovely with a huge comfy bed and a lovely powerful shower. It was a little hot overnight but with windows that open in both...

I was invited to a charity ladies lunch and never having been here before was absolutely delighted. It is in a lovely setting and gives a great first impression. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a set meal of chicken which was delicious although a bit on the small side, and a sticky toffee pudding. Every detail...

I had the fortune to be invited for a Boxing Day lunch with my partners family and so this was the first time I have visited this place. On arrival the building looks welcoming and the staff in reception were very friendly. Our coats were collected and taken to the cloakroom and so as we were a little early we...

The location is not too far from St Albans town centre, so plenty to do if you are staying for a while. I emailed the team with a few questions before booking and about my stay and the responses were fast and courteous but also friendly, no standard text responses which I dislike! The reception team on arrival were very...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This magnificent town-house hotel, set in five acres of beautiful English country gardens with lake, is remarkably close to the city centre. The Newling Ward family converted the 500 year-old building in 1965 and continue to own and run the hotel. The 30 bedrooms are individually styled, with many overlooking the lake and gardens, and the award-winning orangery style restaurant shares the same views. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, cream teas and dinner served in a choice of dining areas. ... more   less
