Stayed here for part of my girlfriend 30th birthday I booked a luxury room for £240 for the night which included breakfast. The hotel pluses were - Nice hotel, room was nice/ok bed was very comfortable breakfast was good too. The hotel minuses- The room was pretty cold even though the heating was turned to the highest. There was no... More

Everything about the hotel was generally great (staff very friendly and welcoming, hot breakfast cooked to order) but my room (Palm Room) was on the roof next to the extractors, air conditioning units etc which went off throughout the night, keeping me awake or waking me up, After a six hour drive that day and a return drive later the... Just wanted to say for anyone considering this hotel that we had an amazing time here for our wedding in October! It was the best wedding. Everyone loved this venue including us and here's why... First and foremost the staff are amazing. They could not have done more for us.. From when we did our food tasting to the day... More

Very nice hotel, great location, excellent breakfast. Staff knowledgeable and polite. Slight drawback was that the room was very hot and on second floor, no lift as building listed, but didn't spoil the visit.

Have just come back from a fabulous weekend celebration at the hotel. Such fun was had by all & the staff were so friendly & nothing was too much trouble. Wonderful cosy rooms & the beds were so comfortable that we wanted to steal the pillows & duvets!!!! The grounds were so beautiful-it was hard to believe that we were... More

Simply put: Grounds - Lovely. Staff - Excellent. Food - Fantastic. Rooms - probably very nice. The issue was purely that the room allocated was insane. The hotel does not have any lifts and some rooms are on the second floor. Which means two full flights of stairs; second of which is steep and narrow. This was a major problem... More

Last Sunday we celebrated our 4th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends by way of Sunday Lunch. The meal was superb and the whole experience from start to finish was excellent. We were greeted warmly on arrival and the staff were attentive, friendly, efficient and discreet and without doubt made the day. A big thank you to Richard Marrett, the... More

We enjoyed two days at St Michael's Manor for our son's wedding earlier this month. Our experience, therefore, is entirely that of a wedding event. The hotel is located in the old part of St Albans, not far from the Cathedral, with an extensive park at the back and in its own grounds, adorned with a large pond. In other... More

A late review on my part, but one that cannot be missed. I stayed here with my partner in crime on Valentines day this year and it was the best date night of the year, truly made our relationship. A long time ago I worked at this hotel so was great to see it with fresh eyes. Now as a... More

It was a sea of calm during our recent visit, but I imagine it might be a nut household if you're their on a wedding weekend. The rooms are modern, clean and spacious. Nice walk to town and the cathedral with beautiful, large park next door. Food only ok.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This magnificent town-house hotel, set in five acres of beautiful English country gardens with lake, is remarkably close to the city centre. The Newling Ward family converted the 500 year-old building in 1965 and continue to own and run the hotel. The 30 bedrooms are individually styled, with many overlooking the lake and gardens, and the award-winning orangery style restaurant shares the same views. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, bar snacks, cream teas and dinner served in a choice of dining areas. ... more   less
