Byecross Farm Campsite

Certificate of Excellence

#3 of 14 Specialty lodging in Hereford
Certificate of Excellence
Camping in an old fashioned apple orchard right on the river Wye. Toilet and shower facilities with outside washing up sinks with hot water. We are between Hereford and Hay-On-Wye based in Preston-On-Wye. We allow camp fires, sell local kiln dried firewood, ales, cider, ice creams and chilled drinks. For those wanting to join friends and do not like the idea of camping. We have two yurts. Wood burner, double futon, cooking, eating and washing up utensils. Outside the yurts is a double gas stove, picnic bench and brazier.

Amazing. We had a great weekend at Byecross campsite. It was recommended to us by a lady that we booked to take us up river via minibus and trailer for our kayak and i’m so glad we booked here. Via phone Tony advised of everything we needed to know and email replies were also pretty quick & helpful. On arrival Friday night gone 7pm, we went straight to the cafe area and had a warm welcome, we paid and were issued with a wrist band, we were advised to pitch up where we wanted and we ended up in a really peaceful corner of one of the fields. We bought cold drinks from their shop on the Saturday morning to take with us on our day kayaking which was handy. We got back to the campsite via river after paddling 20miles and a group of guys (also campers) sat by the landing area helped my partner with our Kayak back up the bank which was so lovely of them. We used the showers at £1 per 5 minutes which was plenty enough time and they’re powerful & warm, so pleased with the amount of toilets available too. The seating area outside of the cafe is great to have a drink and a chat with other campers if you wish to do so. We had use of a dog walking field for our Cocker Spaniel which was great. Every one of the guys who run the campsite were very friendly and happy to spend two minutes for a chat in passing. We even had the experience of seeing a small quiet plane landing at the farm/campsite and taking off again an hour or two later which was great to see whilst relaxing outside of our tent on Sunday afternoon. ◾️Booking was easy ◾️Arrival etc was very straightforward ◾️Facilities are great with toilets, showers and cafe serving hot food & drinks ◾️Management are friendly and helpful ◾️Fields are flat and easy to pitch up on ◾️Easy access to the river Wye for kayaking What more could you ask for. We will definitely return without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you all for such an enjoyable weekend.

What a great spot this is, down a lane on the banks of the River Wye. Lovely flat site with fields and orchards to camp in, cafe / small shop with a selection of ciders wine etc £9 pp a night, lovely hot power showers for £1 lasts about 5-6 mins. There are also 2 yurts for hire Canoeing and kayaking available next door for £30 the day which was well worth it. I’m a beginner but was given good instructions. The river was shallow in places at others the current is strong, don’t let this put you off, life jackets are provided the scenery is beautiful. Take a picnic and plenty to drink plus a towel - you store your belongings in a waterproof barrel which you keep with you in your canoe ( not sure about anyone solo in a Kayak ). Another shower would be great and a few plastic tablets to put your toiletries etc as only the windowsill apart from door hooks ( plenty of these) which is a bit fiddly. Would definitely recommend!

Myself and approximately 30 colleagues stayed here recently during an annual event held locally. We were given an enormous field all to ourselves and had full access to the rest of the campsite facilities which included showers, toilets, washing facilities, shop (stocking beer and cider) and cafe. The campsite owners, Tony and Sharon, and their team put on a BBQ for us in the evening and produced top notch burgers, salads, home made coleslaw and chips for everyone including veggie and gluten free and dairy free options for those with special dietary needs. The feedback from my group was that everything was as good as it possibly could've been so huge thanks and compliments to the team at Byecross for helping us have an excellent event. A small handful also took advantage of on-site canoe hire facilities the next day and were rewarded with sightings of kingfshers, mandarin ducks and peregrines while they were out on the river. Top marks for Byecross.

This place is just beautiful, it is set in an old orchard so you pitch up in between the trees. Open fires are allowed which is a great bonus. The camp shop is not overly priced and they sell most things you might need. They do breakfast rolls in the morning again at a fair price and gorgeous. When we arrived they let us know what they would be cooking that evening in case we were interested so we had the chilli and chicken curry, really tasty and great value for money, couldn't fault it. Toilet blocks really clean and washing and recycling facilities are also there. We also used the on site canoeing company, really helpful guy, only £10 per adult for the hour, children £5. Definitely worth a visit, the children loved it. We are planning to go back very soon.

Byecross Farm Campsite was a great place to stay for a few days by the river. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The site was clean. Plenty of hot water in the shower block. Access to the river was easy and the on site canoe/kayak business was a real bonus. We were a group of friends with children and a dog. We all loved it and would thoroughly recommend this site. We will definitely be back. I
