Having enjoyed this hotel on several occasions for business, I decided to treat my husband to a wonderful experience. We loved being in the annex, which is very private and comfortable, in a junior suite. It has everything you would expect from a hotel of this quality and I can't fault it. This is a 4-star hotel and deserves every... More

We stayed in the Royal Suite for a night and while it was quite grand at first glance once we started to get comfortable the shortcomings became clear. The old plastic bath in the tired bathroom, peeling paint that showed signs of touching up rather than stripping down and other cheap fittings did not suggest indulgence. The room itself had... A beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. We had a lovely comfortable room, with lots of little extras, although if I knew someone would turn the bed down while we were at dinner I'd have left it in a tidier state! Delightful to listen to the cathedral bells in the distance. Beautiful gardens too, and a delicious dinner.

Our suite was large, comfortable and stylishly decorated. Although it looked out over the street, it was quiet. Breakfast, the only meal we ate there, was not great (botched orders and slow service), but certainly did not mar our overall excellent experience.

Beautifully positioned, but experience spoilt by pokiness of room, loud kitchen extractor fan, and lack of air conditioning. Service generally good but young man on early breakfast duty was superior and inattentive.

I must stress I am reviewing the restaurant NOT the hotel as I have only eaten here. The 2 stars are for the setting which was lovely, the food however was not. I accept a fine dining experience means the portions are tiny and it is more about quality and presentation, this failed on quality and just passed on presentation.... More

The hotel is managed extremely well. We have a suite overlooking the pretty garden which leads down to the duck pond. We have sherry and fruit and milk is kept in the fridge they even do a turn down service. Our dinner last night was excellent with an adequate house wine. Our only comment was we were kept too long... More

We stayed for 2 nights and had 5 excellent meals in the hotel. The gardens on the old castle moat are an ideal setting for lunch, afternoon tea and pre-dinner drinks. In fact the peace and quiet the gardens create are rather unique. The breakfast bufet could be improved but the cooked breakfast was perfect. Lunch in the gardens was... More
